“Beautiful, peaceful spot within walking distance of traditional village with great restaurants”

Reviewed 5 Sep 2014

This was the second time we have visited Montone and stayed at Casa Delle Grazie. The first time was a couple of years ago, just myself and my partner, after we were let down by our arranged accommodation. Aine saved us!!! And we are so glad. She was so kind to let us stay last minute in the place she doesn't usually let, because it was an emergency, and she gave us a good rate. We had the most amazing holiday and knew we wanted to return. The location is absolutely perfect. Plenty of places to visit by car nearby (Cortona and Assisi were two of our faves. We also took a train to Rome the first trip) but also within walking distance of the pretty village, Montone, if you want to just take it easy. This time we had our baby daughter with us so it was a totally different holiday but equally wonderful! We were greeted by Aine, who is very friendly and helpful, and shown to our apartment which was really spacious and well equipped, with a lovely private terrace. We had a few essentials in the fridge (wine!) and a little folder with information about the area. This is really helpful, and between the two trips we have now tried most of the restaurants in the list and they are great. Our favourite restaurants are in the Nicone Valley, well worth a visit. The square in Montone is also beautiful with good places to eat. There are always locals sat around giving it some atmosphere, and you can enjoy delicious ice cream whenever you fancy. The new bakery which is 5 mins from Casa Delle Grazie is also good for breakfast or snacks. For children this place is great without being surrounded by noisy kids! We often had the pool to ourselves, which our daughter loved, and there are inflatables and other things around the pool to use (Aine had put a paddling pool out especially for the babies). There is a little play frame with swings, and the family are very child friendly as they have two of their own. All of the local restaurants were very family friendly, everyone talked to our daughter! The facilities here are good, with a washing machine, airers, travel cots, high chairs, buggy etc. We also like making use of the BBQ. Self catering is easy with supermarkets nearby and a well equipped kitchen. Also a take away pizza from the Hotel in Montone is great after a long day trip! We hope to return to Montone in the future. It really is a little gem, an ideal base to explore the area, and peaceful and picturesque for the more relaxing days. Thank you so much Aine for two of our best holidays!

“Magical Montone!”

We are a family of 4 with 2 children aged 10 and 7. This is our second time to stay at Casa delle Grazie (La Stalla), the first being 3 years ago. Firstly, the accommodation is immaculate, spacious, airy, modern yet retaining a typical Italian feel. La Stalla is all on one level which is ideal for a family with children. There are 2 large bedrooms, easily accommodating 2 couples or a family of 4 or more. The 2 bathrooms are again very modern and finished to a high standard. Kitchen was very well equipped and I enjoyed cooking there which is very often not the case in many holiday lets. Overall cleanliness appears to be a priority. The lovely pool with amazing views kept the children happy on hot days, and it brings back happy memories for all of us having our lunch sitting outside apartment under the pergola taking in the amazing views (any pictures on website or which we have taken ourselves do NOT do justice to the very beautiful scenery surrounding the property). Montone itself is only a 5 minute walk away from the property, and is in itself a little gem, yet another big plus. There are numerous restaurants to try both in Montone itself and locally, suiting all budgets. Our favourite is L-Antica Osteria in the square in Montone, which we return to time and again, the food is very nice and the atmosphere really good at outside tables especially in the evenings. The staff are also kind, accommodating and friendly. There are also numerous lovely places to visit if you can find the time, some of them being Assisi, Gubbio, Perugia, Lake Trasimeno all within easy reach. Lastly, we have to commend the host family itself, Fabio, Aine, James and Elisabetta. Both Fabio and Aine are very welcoming, helpful and genuine. They are there for you when you need them and hospitable to all who stay at their home. They work hard at what they do and it is reflected in every aspect of the holiday. James and Elisabetta make plenty of friends and love having fun with their younger guests. We are already looking ahead to next Summer !

“Wonderful location, lovely holiday”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2014

We stayed here for one week earlier this month. Aine & Fabio and their children are wonderful hosts and the accommodation is generous, with really comfy beds and simple but pretty, well thought out furnishings. Each house is privately separated by planting and has its own shaded area. The pool is well-kept and fenced and the area outside is great for little ones as it is kept car free. Montone is a superb little village with great restaurants and only a 6 minute walk away - a great place to people watch and for the children to run around whilst we had a drink. We will go back next year!

“An inspirational place and the perfect family holiday.”

We flew in to Bologna and apart from a long wait for our hire car found the drive and location of Casa Delle Grazie pretty easy (first time driving in Italy) following Aine and Fabio's directions. We arrived and the wonderful Aine offered my husband and I a glass of wine and juice for the kids and we instantly felt relaxed and our holiday had truly begun! The accommodation was spotless, beautifully decorated and laid out. We stayed in La Toretta, which is the one bedroom villa on two floors. We have a 2 year old and a 5 year old boy, Aine was brilliant and had put up a stair gate as well as a comfy camp bed and a travel cot in the bedroom (the room is very big and spacious) ready for us. I absolutely fell in love with the vill and the gorgeous views we had every day from it. The kitchen is well stocked with things like oil and vinegar as well as all the pots and pans etc. you will need and Aine had stocked the fridge with a local bottle of white wine as well as some butter and milk, plus croissants and bread so you do not need to rush out to the supermarket (just down the road) straight away. Montone is an idyllic Italian village and only a five minute walk away, with a good choice of restaurants and a charming square, which buzzes with activity in the evening. It is a wonderful place and we enjoyed an afternoon there walking round. Our lovely hosts Aine and Fabio really made our holiday extra special and unforgettable, they both went out of there way to help and recommend places to visit or restaurants to eat at and even organised a trip to a local farm and an evening out at a local pig farmers for a yummy BBQ! But they had the right balance where they never intruded into our holiday but rather a very happy part of it. Our children got on well with theirs too, who were both polite and very smiley, lovely and entertaining kids and we all felt sad having to say goodbye to them. The views from the pool are superb (especially at about 5pm when a flock of swallows fly in for a quick dip) and the sun loungers are very comfy and because there are only three villas the pool and the poolside is never ever crowded. We will be returning next summer - WE CANNOT WAIT! Thank you again to Aine and Fabio, you have created a mini, fabulous paradise!

“Absolute Perfection”

We had a wonderful stay at Casa delle Grazie. We stayed in La Torretta with our young son and the accommodation could not have been better. Well equipped, including children's toys, high chairs etc. Really great beds and bathroom! The location is fantastic, close to the beautiful and unspoilt village of Montone. Our host Aine was really helpful in the lead up to our arrival and ensured that our stay was relaxed and comfortable.

“absolutely enjoyable accomadations”

This villa is at the bottom of the hill. It has a beautiful view from the front doors and a lovely back porch. The water pressure in the shower is great! The sheets get changed weekly, along with clean towels provided. Cleaning is done at the same time. All around, an absolutely wonderful experience. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation.

“A Truly Magical experience, pure bliss”

My boyfriend and I stayed in La Torretta for a week in July. Our apartment La Torretta is on two levels with a beautifully fitted kitchen/living on the ground floor & a fabulous bedroom & bathroom on the top floor, with the most comfortable king size bed we have ever slept in. The view from the room was breath-taking, looking out over the rambling hill's of Umbria & onto the beautiful walled village of Montone, it was like a dream. Another little treat in our duplex apartment was the fantastic bathroom & the view from our shower was amazing looking out over the neighboring vines. There is a garden area outside each cottage with really comfy chairs, table & umbrella, great to just relax & to top it off the 15m pool with the most amazing view I have ever seen. It was so tranquil & not overlooked in anyway!!! By the way no need pack any water floats, there all there for you. When we arrived in Casa delle Grazie we were delighted to be greeted with a welcome pack, there was a bottle of local wine, beer, milk, tea, coffee, biscuits, bread, butter jam, salt and an itenery of places to go & see in the area. It was a great idea as, we went to Assisi, about 30-40 minutes away & to a local festival of food, music & culture, both trips were something really special. The local supermarket is only a 10 -15 minute drive with beautiful fresh produce & is really great value. There are also markets on locally, which are great fun, definitely a must see. Also what we found great was the laundry facilities right beside the cottages & a lovely little library of books, you can bring to the pool with you. The local village of Montone is only a 5-10 minute stroll. It is like something out of a fairytail. They locals are so friendly & it feel's like it has been untouched. There are a great selection of restaurants, bars & coffee shops & are really good value, the standard of food is exceptionally high. We found ourselves going up for coffee or a glass of local wine, sitting in the piazza (the square) for hours watching the slow pace of Montone passing us by. We just fell in love with the village, with its traditions & enchanting streets, it really is an escape from reality & our fast paced life, you just had to relax!! The owners Aine and Fabio were so helpful & friendly, there was nothing they wouldn't do to make our stay special. Their door was always open & happy to share a glass of wine!! Casa delle Grazie is so beautiful, we hope to return year after year. It will always have a special place in our hearts, with the most amazing memories. Thank you Aine & Fabio for a fantastic holiday

The beautifully restored property, location, scenery, ambience, and the friendly and welcoming owners make this an excellent holiday choice. There are fabulous views from our villa across the rolling hills with the old town of Montone just a 10 minute walk, a combination of rural quietness and easy access to lovely restaurants. From arrival you could relax straight away and when not exploring the countryside the pool overlooking the hills provided afternoons of sheer bliss. Thank you to Aine, Fabio and family.
