Les Cerisiers, now a cosy couple's retreat, was the gatekeeper's cottage for Villa Ste Therese, which sits 70 metres away, beyond hedges, laurels & walnut trees, & shares the rambling gardens. The Villa also hosts a ten day tour each year for small, relaxed groups, indulging in the cuisine, culture & history of the Perigord. Details are on our personal website!

The living areas are spaciously proportioned, with a dining/living area downstairs and an airy queensize bedroom upstairs on the mezzanine floor. A separate bathroom is downstairs. Dine outdoors on the terrace and enjoy the views of Monpazier and the gardens. Recent renovations have created a stylish, yet authentic, country cottage offering all modern amenities. A folding cot & portable bath and high chair are available for couples with a very young baby.

Further details outdoors

The grounds of Villa Ste Therese were landscaped 50 years ago, in the French tradition of a gentleman's country house - hedging, shaped shrubs, established large deciduous trees, creating a vista in all shades of green. A series of stone-walled terraces on the southern slopes lead down to the orchard below - a wonderful place to explore & enjoy...plums, figs, apples, peaches, walnuts, cherries...so help yourself if they're in season! The northern lawn in front of Les Cerisiers has plenty of room for petanque or badminton. These wide lawns, plus large cherry trees, walnut trees and laurel hedges create privacy & space between Les Cerisiers & the Villa, located 70 metres away. We love the fact that we can walk into the village in 5 minutes & relax with a coffee just to watch the world go by! Monpazier's accredited as 'One of the Most Beautiful Villages in France' so we never tire of its ancient beauty and gentle pace.Villa Ste Therese can also be rented as a gite separately - please view it at Property #161201.

Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

Dordogne is renowned for its cuisine, iconic wineries, chateaux and rich history. Yet it is still such a peaceful setting for a relaxing holiday. It's the Land of 1001 Chateaux because at every bend is another stunning vista of an ancient chateau, and many are open for public visits. This area of the southern Dordogne is full of amazing medieval villages, many of them having earned the title "One of the Most Beautiful Villages of France", such as Monpazier, La Roque Gageac, Beynac, Domme, Belves, Limeuil, Monflanquin. The climate is holiday-perfect most of the year, with pleasant sunny Spring days starting in April, then warm-hot summer weather til late September. Autumn is still mild, but tranquil, with rich golden colors in the surrounding oak forests & vineyards...another ideal time to visit.

“A charming home in a stunning part of France”

Reviewed 20 Jul 2015

Les Cerisiers is the sort of place I've always wanted to stay at. A charming stone cottage set amongst a private orchard, it is within easy walking distance of the walled town of Monpazier. From the minute one walks in there is a feeling of homeliness and comfort, and all the necessary things are there, plus many more thoughtful items. The beautifully equipped kitchen is great for cooking (with top quality knives!), the lounge has a cosy fireplace if needed, there is an outdoor garden setting for la pleine enjoyment (weather permitting), and the mezzannine bedroom, with lovely comfortable brass bed makes for a tranquil night's sleep. Rosemary was a terrific host to liaise with, always prompt in reply, and helpful in every regard. The coded key entry system worked easily, but my only words of warning are the finding of the actual street was a little fraught for us as French mapping and street naming seems to have more than one street with the same name. As long as you take the uphill track opposite the turn off to Villereal you should find it ok. Monpazier itself is a fantastic town; not overly commercialised or overrun by tourists (well, a few pass through in the day, but by night you almost feel like a local. ) There are plenty of terrific restaurants, excellent markets, and it is not too far to drive to many of the other exceptional places in the Dordogne/Perigord region.

“Perfect Dordogne Getaway”

Reviewed 7 May 2015

We were looking for some place to wind down, relax and taste the French lifestyle. Les Cerisiers and Monpazier was the perfect double.. The cottage was all we wanted. Well appointed with all the necessary kitchen aids to create a French feast, it was also cosy and warm with a very comfy bed. Location was ideal, just far enough from Monpazier to provide a quiet isolation in a beautiful garden setting, yet close enough for an easy stroll for the morning coffee and quiche. Monpazier itself is also a beautiful village, not swarming with tourists, but well serviced by some excellent restaurants, boulangeries and charcuteries. We are so glad we chose Les Cerisiers.

“Great location - central Dordogne”

Reviewed 6 Sep 2014

We had a great week here late May. The plain trees were at the end of flowering. The cottage was very comfortable and it's only a 5 minute walk to the village. We picked cherries each afternoon from the trees on the property. The enjoyed the local foie gras, bakery, butcher and restaurants in Monpazier. If you don't have transport you would manage as you can get everything you require from Monpazier. Within an hours drive you can visit many of the other beautiful villages in the Dordogne. Hope we can return again sometime. Enjoy!!

“Cosy cottage in delightful setting”

Reviewed 5 Sep 2014

We spent a wonderful week in this cottage which had everything you could want for a great holiday. We spent almost all the time outside in the garden with its beautiful trees. Sunrise and sunset over Monpazier were stunning. Monpazier was a short stroll away, walking or cycling there to purchase breakfast baguettes and croissants became our daily ritual. Monpazier itself has a good range of restaurants and a busy weekly market. There are several good cycling routes (our 1 euro local cycling map purchased at the tourist info) was well used. All the arrangements (access, route advice, deposit return etc) were excellent. The folder in the gite contained lots of useful information. We would certainly recommend Les Cerisiers for it's comfort, location and to anyone seeking a relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting.

“A true "Cottage in the Dordogne" experience.”

Reviewed 20 Oct 2013

If five star luxury hotels are your travel preference then Les Cerisiers in Monpazier is not for you. If however you seek that true French cottage in the country experience; walking into the village to get the croissants in the morning, restaurants ranging from Michelin recommended gastronomic indulgence, to good basic family affairs through to a quick pizza on the day that you just can't be bothered; a couple of bars for a local vin rouge with a snack and one of the most complete and unadulterated bastide villages in France that still functions as a working town and hasn't been destroyed by the tourist industry and its ugly ephemera, then this is for you. Les Cerisiers is the gatekeeper's cottage attached to the larger Villa Sainte Therese, about a five to ten minute walk from the Monpazier village gates. It is a modernised stone cottage with plenty of space to feel comfortable inside and all the fundamentals to make it homely in a slightly quirky fashion. Wifi connection is good, kitchen set up is complete and the bathroom a bit squeezy but with gallons of hot water. Also there is a washing machine, ironing facilities and an outdoor barbecue. We were there in September and had some unseasonable cool, wet weather but the heating systems kept us comfortable. We managed to eat out on the terrace a couple of times in defiance of the weather, but I'm sure it would be a delight on a balmy summer's evening. The owner, Rosemary Vine makes each new arrival welcome with detailed information about how everything works, where to go to shop and eat and other villages to be visited. There is also a full list of emergency contact details. As one of Les Plus Beaux Villages in France, this is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in all things really French. English is widely spoken but as elsewhere in the country, there is a great appreciation for any attempt to speak in French.

“A sweet little cottage close to a darling bastide village in the Frenc countryside”

Reviewed 20 Oct 2013

We loved our stay in this cottage, which was well set uo for cooking and relaxing. Rosemary provided complete information about the cottage and the village. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace with a glass of the complimentary Monbazillac wine and looking out over the meadow.

“Lovely cottage in the heart of the Perigord gastronomic region”

Reviewed 18 Jan 2013

Les Cerisiers was a delightful cottage for two with access to a huge garden. We spent nearly 3 weeks here. It sits on an escarpment overlooking the Bastide village of Monpazier. The cottage was well equipped, and comfortable and it gave us a base for our exploration of this fascinating region. It is a region full of history, pre-history and gastronomic delights. We had access to the rest of the world through both British and French TV, but found little time to watch. We could keep in touch with family via WiFi. We would be delighted to return.

“Les Cerisiers is a cosy romantic cottage, just outside of Monpazier and set in the beautiful Dordogne countryside.”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2012

Les Cerisier is a delightful cottage, cosy & comfortable, relaxing & romantic, set in beautiful grounds with walnut and cherry trees. The cottage was superbly equipped and well maintained, with excellent service from English housekeepers nearby. It is within walking distance of Monpazier, an historic, well-preserved fortified village, with every convenience and amenity you could desire or need. There were many attractions nearby with historic chateaux and beautiful old villages to explore. Amazing restaurants, and the River Dordogne only a short distance by car, providing water activities in the warmer months. I would not hesitate to recommend this vacation rental. “Romantic Retreat in the Dordogne”

Reviewed 11 Sep 2011

Les Cerisiers is beautifully designed. Ideal for a romantic getaway. We spent many an evening watching the sunset go down over Monpazier. We had planned to travel more around the Dordogne but we struggled to drag ourselves away from the pool and Monpazier most days. It is a perfect distance from Monpazier as we felt quite secluded but every morning we walked into Monpazier for the daily ritual of buying croissants and sitting in the square for a cafe au lait. Monpazier is well served for some excellent restaurants. We spent our first week in France travelling around and racking up 2000 miles on roads, Les Cerisiers was the perfect excuse to just stop and relax for our second week. Rachel, Surrey
