From the owner

Welcome to our lovely gîte, set in the heart of the Charentes-Maritime countryside. We pride ourselves on helping our guests have the most enjoyable and relaxing experience possible.

La Gaitrie enjoys a beautiful setting in peaceful surroundings. The house is wheelchair friendly and fully accessible.

There are miles of tracks for you to walk or cycle right from the doorstep through the surrounding woodlands (oak, birch, chestnut, cherry), vineyards and countryside.

La Gaitrie is in a dark sky area with amazing views of the Milky Way on clear nights. We have a house telescope available on request or bring your own!

Our pretty gîte is in a peaceful location in the countryside, next to our own home set in almost two hectares of informal gardens and woodlands.

Bordeaux and Cognac are within a one hour drive as are the beaches of the Atlantic coast. Local towns and villages offer a variety of amenities and shops, as well as weekly markets selling fresh, regional produce.

About The Gîte

There are two bedrooms, one with a large double bed and the other with a single bed and a child’s box bed. However, on request, we can provide another single bed to make this also a double room. There is also a small sofa bed in the living room.

The kitchen is fully equipped including a fridge-freezer, washing machine and large dining table.

Cots, travel cots and high chair can be provided on request.

Large bathroom with large walk-in shower (sorry, no bath).

All bedlinen and towels are provided. Please notify in advance if you have any particular requirements re. allergies etc.

Well behaved pets are welcome by prior agreement and fee of 5€ per pet per night.

Please note: We do not provide wifi. The gîte is in a rural area without good ADSL connection. There is good 3G and 4G access using your own data plan. We can provide a LAN connection if needed for email connection, but please be aware that we do not have the bandwidths available to support access to Netflix etc. as we rely on 4G broadband ourselves.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

If Julia (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
