Location description from owner

The Region of Murcia region

The region of the Costa Calida is known as the warm coast because it boasts 320 days of sun a year.Few regions have the good fortune to have two seas. one is a dearly loved sea, historically known, visited and settled, has the name of the Mar Menor; it is the biggest sea lagoon in Europe with a coastline perimeter of 73 kilometres, where beaches of transparent shallow waters appear one after the other and it is ideal for young children as there are no currents or waves. and then we have the Mediterranean Sea.This is a paradise for all water sports. For those who enjoy walking or cycling, there are palmed promenades where you can stop off, now and again, for tapas and some local wines.

The whole region of Murcia offers a whole range of tourist and leisure possibilities to be explored.... Inland you can visit the city of Murcia, with its famous cathedral facade, one of the finest examples of Baroque in Spain; its casino or its many squares where you can sit, take a drink, relax and let the world go by...

Further round the coast is Categena town, this is well worth a visit with its trendy shops, bars and restaurants. The historic port offers a slower pace of life; where boat trips around the harbour can be taken.

A night is magical on the Mar Menor and as such has to be lived. A good start would be to have dinner at one of the many restaurants serving typical dishes before going on to one of the numerous festivals or concerts that are scheduled in different places around the Mar Menor.Quite nights can be had strolling along the beautiful promanades and calling in to the open air bars found along your route. Take in an open air cinema if stolling seems too energetic a passtime. If, on the other hand, you want to live the night, then that starts with much enthusiasm in the leisure areas; were like minded people get together to have their first drinks and after on to the discos. The majority of which are open air, or perhaps you would like to try your luck at the casinp....If the night has gone well and you want to see the new day, you can enjoy it by bathing in the tranquil waters of the Mar Menor, enjoying an unequaled dawn, watching the sun come up with the thin strip of La Manga painted on the horizon.

Mar Menor Golf Resort

Casa Jenella is well situated on a private 5* golf development, with 24 hour security and is only five minutes drive away from the nearest coastal town, Alcazares or the urbanisation of Torre Pacheco. The Mar Menor Golf resort boasts wide avenues and streets and numerous parks and green spaces. Among the outstanding facilities that form part of this exclusive complex is a golf course designed, in a combined effort, by Jack Nicholas and Dave Thomas; a club house with its own bars and restaurant. . The resort has its own sports centre, housing a gym, tennis court, paddle tennis courts and large outdoor swimming pool; as well as a children's pool. At the resorts heart is a 5* Intercontinental hotel with its own bars, pool bars, restaurants and a wonderful Spa facilities ( Espa) for the ladies to pamper themselves. Our villa is situated a few minutes walk from all of these facilities

The golf is excellent and the 18 hole Mar Menor course is beautifully maintained and challenging. It is part of the 'Bear Trail' named after Jack Nicholas himself who has developed six golf courses in the area you can presently play on. They constitute the Mar Menor Golf Resort; La Torre; El Valle and Hacienda Riquelme, Condado de Alhama and Saurines de la Torre; all of these courses are in easy reach of the resort via car and you will find in the club house the staff are very helpful and will pre book rounds on any of these course for you…..all you have to do is turn up and play…easier said than done in my case. There are numerous other courses in close proximity to the resort too. All of them offer different challenges and will be an excellent test of your golfing skills.
Los Alcazare is a lovely , tradition Spanish town and is only a short car ride away. It has two street markets per week as do many of the other small towns in the area boasting their weekly markets; all selling their wares. Bargains galore can be had on clothes and the fresh produce of the area, especially the vegetables and fruit. The beach in Alcazares is lovely, clean and prepared daily. Again this is traditionally and typically Spanish and thankfully does not suffer from the 'brits abroad syndrome' whatsoever…..no lager louts allowed. The beach is enhanced by its promenade and along its sandy miles are bars and restaurants selling fresh sea food and delicious Spanish tapas.

There are many such beaches along the Mar Menor and all are child friendly and warm. The countryside in and around the region provides access to national parks and small Spanish villages; here for you to enjoy a typical ' menu del dia'. The area is famous for its mineral waters and claims to have therapeutic healing powers if you want to smear the sea's mud onto your body. You may see people doing just that as you wander along the sea front. Lo Pagan is the most famous for the mud bath experience….best of all it is free

The sea is a paradise for the bathers old and young alike and you will see enthusiasts performing a number of aquatic disciplines such as scuba diving, water skiing ,wind surfing and kite surfing to name but a few. Fishing too is popular.

I recommend going to visit the historical cities of Murcia and Cartagena; both have great modern shops, cafes and bars and tourist attractions boasting a wealth of museums, galleries and traditional architecture. A visit further down the coast to Mazarron is recommended , famous for being the area where the classic the 'Guns of Navarone' was filmed.

If 'shop until you drop' is your thing then you cannot do much better than the 'Zenia Boulevard' in Orihuela, just off the Mar Menor back up towards the town of Torrevieja ( come off the AP 7 just before the first toll. Great shopping and the eating there is good too.

Torre Pacheco is only 2 km away and is reached by turning right out of the resort. This small town is very Spanish; not a lot here to be honest… banks, a few restaurants and shops, however, here you can catch the train. It is on the Madrid - Cartagena line. This opens up another 'world of travel' as you can expect.

“A lovely place to stay and will stay there again soon”

Reviewed 7 Oct 2016

We enjoyed every moment at Casa Jenna. It was very clean, nicely furnished and the pool spotless . In the villa Ray the owner has provided a very helpful dossier about the villa and the surrounding area. The resort is the best of the original 6 Polaris golf resorts and the golf course plays very well. The resort is secure and safe for couples and families. Recommended for golfers and non golfers alike.

“A Truly Delightful Villa, Be hard to find better on the resort.”

Travelled to Mar Menor to meet up with friends who have property on this resort. Husband a very keen golfer so the villa is in the perfect location, a minutes walk to the clubhouse! Myself and husband very impressed with the villa and its outdoor space, from what I have since seen I don't think many have as large an outdoor area as this one and very secluded. Glenda who manages the property was excellent and always on hand and I have had very good dealings with Ray the owner, can't have asked for more! Many thanks and hopefully be back next year!

“Another great stay!!!”

Reviewed 30 Jul 2012

This is the third time we've stayed at this villa and however, the last time was 6 years ago! It's still as fabulous with even better facilities. Around the pool has now been tiled which makes a HUGE difference! The actual villa is still pristine and well looked after, a home from home... The major difference for us was the finished 18 hole golf course, which was a joy to play, although it had to be first thing in the morning and late evening. It was too hot!! Lots of restaurants and bars too. We were lucky enough to be there for the Euro football finals and the atmosphere was great... A car is a must if you want to get to the beach or a trip round onto the Mar Menor strip. Would definitely be booking again in the near future and not leaving it so long. Thanks again for letting us use your beautiful villa..

“Fantastic Villa”

Reviewed 4 Jul 2012

I would highly recommend this villa. On arrival the villa was very clean, excellent facilities throughout the villa, everything was first class. Where the villa is situated is excellent, we ate a couple of nights at the Fontana Di Pietra restaurant, which is situated on the Mar Menor Site, this is an Italian restaurant, and the food and service was outstanding. Whilst we were there the weather was very hot, some days it was over 40c, wish we were back there now, as it is constantly raining here in England! Would most definitely go back to this villa, fantastic holiday.

“A wonderful stay”

Reviewed 27 Apr 2012

We took the villa on a long let over the winter for some much needed sunshine. It was like a home from home and we absolutely loved our stay. The villa is in a good location on the resort (just a few minutes walk to the Hotel / Golf Bar and on-site shop) and has a fabulous sunny aspect. The resort has 24 hour on-site security and we felt very secure during our stay. The villa is well equipped and provides ample living space both indoors and outdoors. A flatscreen TV with satellite decoder provides all the terrestrial british channels plus Sky Sports, a must for football and or WWE fans! The only thing missing for us was wi-fi, however you can can pick it up over at the Golf Bar. A car is a must for exploring outside the resort, and there are many places worth visiting within a 30 minute radius of the complex. There is a very good choice of supermarkets not too far from the resort in both easterly and westerly directions with fantastic selection of fresh produce (much fresher than in Britain!). Dos Mares shopping mall is 15 minutes drive (junction 777 on the AP-7 towards Alicante). The Mar Menor coastal towns are just a 10 minute drive away and offer picturesque walks along the beaches. Cartagena is a lovely place with absolutely stunning architecture (be sure to head for the port and then walk back towards the town). Murcia City is only 25 mins drive away and it too has plenty to offer. We have fantastic memories from our stay in this region of Spain and are really looking forward to our next visit!....

great villa, excellent location, having stayed at other villas this is my favourite one, the pool was too die for, the whole experience we will hope to complete again

“Home from Home”

Reviewed 23 Sep 2011

The Villa has all the comforts of home with the addition of wall to wall sunshine ,situated in a lovely part of Spain on an excellent complex which includes a golf course and a 5 star spa hotel.. The Mar Menor area is quiet and the beaches are clean safe and unspoilt. Plenty of places to visit nearby and car hire is a must., Eating out is very reasonable especially the Chinese Wok Buffees not to be missed. An extremely enjoyable relaxing holiday, just what the doctor ordered.

“Second visit to this villa - another fab holiday at the Mar Menor.”

Reviewed 7 Sep 2011

The villa is located about 15 minures drive from Murcia Airport (which is served by most UK airlines ) or 40 minutes from Alicante. It is a short drive to the Mar Menor beach, which is an excellent child friendly lagoon with warm water and good beach facilities for day time or evening restaurants. The Manga Strip is also only short distance, worth a visit as one side is lagoon and the other is the beach of the Med coast. The villa itself is like home from home and is furnished to a high standard. The villa book was of particular help with lots of information about the complex and the local area and about the villa itself. We really like the layout of the property in particular the outdoor eating area and pool and there was nothing we disliked. Not sure about wi-fi internet connection. The golf resort where it is located also boasts a five star hotel, tennis coaching, communal pool which was not really busy on the occasions we were there- you could always rent a sunbed and the pool restaurant food was very good. We would give this villa five stars the same as the golf resort where it is located.

“Beautiful villa in a safe and secure location.”

On arrival at the resort we found the directions given by Ray to be so easy to follow that we arrived at the villa in a couple of minutes without once losing our way (a first for us). We couldn’t believe how well equipped and lovely the villa was, everything that you could possibly need for a relaxing holiday. The pool area was also lovely with sun loungers around the pool and also a table and chairs under the covered patio ensuring that you could always relax comfortably outside from morning to night, ideal for enjoying a cool beer while doing the barbeque. There are bars, restaurants and a supermarket within a short distance from the villa but we found that a car was essential for exploring the area. All in all we had a wonderful holiday and I would highly recommend this villa. Thanks again Ray we will be in touch for next year.
