Location description from owner

The Paphos District

Paphos was the capital of Cyprus under the Ptolemys, successors of Alexander the Great, when its harbour was a thriving port, and remained Cyprus’s first city for more than seven centuries under Roman rule. It’s said that Aphrodite, Greek goddess of love and beauty, rose from the waves and crashed on its shores.

But returning to the modern day, enjoy a cool refreshing drink, a steaming Cypriot coffee or a mouth-watering meal in one of the taverns, restaurants or bars that dot the scenic harbour side .

Aphrodite’s Rock (Petra tou Romiou) On the south coast of the island, on one of the most beautiful beaches, lies “Petra tou Romiou” as it’s known in Cyprus, the location where Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty and love, was said to have emerged from the sea. Aphrodite’s Rock is a massive chunk of stone that marks the spot, her birthplace was a place of pilgrimage for the entire Hellenic world.

Paphos Castle Paphos Castle was originally built as a Byzantine fort to protect its famous picturesque harbour, in the 13th century it was rebuilt by the Lusignans and then dismantled by the Venetians in 1570, who were unable to defend it against the Ottomans, who then restored and strengthened it after capturing the island.

Since 1935 it has been declared an ancient monument and is now considered as one of the hallmarks of the Paphos region. Just in front of the Castle, on the square, many cultural events take place, and during September each year the Paphos Aphrodite Festival takes place, which presents a different opera each year by famous artists who use the building as scenery.

Tombs of the Kings The Tombs of the Kings is spread over a vast area containing impressive underground tombs that date back to the 4th century BC. The Tombs are carved out of solid rock, some being decorated with Doric pillars. Although being tombs of high officials rather than Kings, it was named Tombs of the Kings for the magnificence of the tombs

Mandria

Less than 10km east of Paphos town centre, the Aphrodite Sands resort is located in the delightful rural village of Mandria, where as one would expect, the charm of the traditional Cypriot culture thrives among the locals and their rustic way of life. Surrounded by lush green fields and agricultural plains, the site offers residents the perfect environment for peaceful relaxation, whilst being easily accessible to Paphos and all the amenities and resources offered by the town.

Access to the resort could not be easier with Paphos International Airport less than 10 mins away.

Golfers

The location is perfect for golfers, with the exclusive

Aphrodite Hills Championship Golf course resort 6 mins drive from Aphrodite Sands. More info at http://www.aphroditehills.com/cyprus_golf

Secret Valley Golf course 5 mins drive from Aphrodite Sands. More info at http://www.secretvalley.com/

Elea Championship Course is less than 5 mins drive from Aphrodite Sands. Designed by Nick Faldo and only opened July 2010. More info at http://www.eleaestate.com/

Minthis Hills Golf course is around 20 min drive from Aphrodite Sands. More info at http://www.cyprusprop.com/tsada-golf/

However, for those visitors who prefer less strenuous means of relaxation, a short walk of 700m will enable you to enjoy the golden shingle sands and warm turquoise waters of the Aphrodite Sands local beach. Mandria being a village doesn't suffer from hordes of tourists. Consequently the secluded beach coves at Mandria are often empty or very quiet.

A 10 min drive takes you to Paphos Water Park, Go-Karting track & Paint balling all very close to each other. Horse riding can be done in the next town to Mandria or for those who want to hire a bike can have them delivered to your apartment, you can either explore yourself or go on many of the trails with a guide.

Within the village there is a bank, small supermarket, a gift shop, coffee shop, bakery, home made ice-cream shop.

Within the village square there are three tavernas , Fish & Chip restaurant which is excellent.
Yiannis Taverna is a traditional taverna where you can sit outside under a vine with grapes hanging. George's Taverna on the other side of the square is slightly better equipped for eating inside. On a Friday night during summer months there is Cypriot entertainment at George's. Both Tavernas are exceptional value.

A 5 minute drive from Mandria is Petra Tou Romiou, the birthplace of Aphrodite.

“High quality apartment, perfect holiday”

Reviewed 4 Aug 2013

We had a very good equipped, spacious, apartment with two bathrooms. The apartment quality was excellent, the materials used and the furniture were both high standard. We have stayed with young children, they loved the pool area, and we had nice meals together on the large balcony. We also used the gym and spa several times. Both were good equipped and clean, the staff were helpful. Also to say something negative: the sauna was quite humid, but not very hot (around 65-70 °C). I absolutely recommend this apartment.

“Excellent”

Reviewed 5 Jul 2013

Aphrodite Sands complex is fantastic with excellent accommodation. The complex itself is maintained to a very high standard. This apartment was also of a high standard with everything you could wish for, spacious and clean. We spent a month in this apartment and was very happy. Mandria village has restaurants and bars and is an ideal place to stay if you wish to tour the island, if not just relax around the pool or on the balcony. We personally will not stay anywhere else on the island except here.

“Fantastic Apartment”

Reviewed 17 Apr 2013

We stayed in April 2013. The apartment was everything we needed. The complex is well maintained. Great gym. Mandria has a few restaurants and it is near to the airport. A car is needed but there is a bus into Paphos. We would recommend the apartment and will definitely stay again.

“Perfect place to relax and enjoy peaceful surroundings”

Reviewed 22 Mar 2013

Aphrodite Sands is a lovely complex with beautifully kept gardens and a luxurious Spa. Arriving late we had a surprise welcome of chilled wine, crisps, tea, coffee and toast provided by Maurice. We hugely appreciated such thoughtful and kind hospitality. We quickly felt at home in the appartment and loved the relaxing walks along Mandria Bay so much that we still miss them, inspite of spending a whole month in Cyprus. Mandria is perfect for people who want to get away from the typical tourist areas and enjoy a laid back quieter holiday....definitely,the perfect one for us in the perfect place for us. Mandria is well situated for all routes of travel,to Paphos,Troodos,Pissouri etc., We most surely would like to return and stay even longer next time.

“Fantastic Stay and Great Appartment”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2013

We stayed for 4 weeks in June with a child 6 years old. It was one of the best holidays in our life - very comfortable and relaxed. I can highly recommend to anyone who wants to live in a small village but very close to the highway to Paphos and Limassol. Paphos is 10 min dirve with all shopping you need to stay in the apartment. Of course, you need a car to live comfortably. Owner is very friendly and helpful. If we stay in Cyprus next time we will try to book again here.

“Exactly what it says on the tin”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2012

We stayed for a week, in October 2012, with our 2 year old daughter, largely based on the reviews here. The reviews turned out to be spot on. We had a lovely time. The apartment was spotless, modern and well appointed. The pools were clean and the whole place had a relaxing and welcoming feel about it. Mandria itself is just a few minutes walk away. It was quite, child friendly, had a few choices of where to eat and the food was good. In fact the fish and chips were incredible! I played a little bit of golf. Paphos is near by and there is plenty to do if you are willing to take the odd trip out. I would say a car is a necessity, unless you just wanted to unwind next to the pool. All in all in it was exactly what we were looking for. Not at all for those looking for a lively holiday. Perfect for families and couples with a more sedate holiday in mind. We would definitely go back next year and that is something I have never said about a holiday before!

“Lovely apartment which felt like home”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2012

Lovely, clean apartment with spacious balcony which felt like a home-from-home to my husband and I. Everything was as described and we thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay. We also loved the village of Mandria which is very traditional. Whilst we had a hire car for the fortnight which enabled us to explore during the day, we mostly ate in the excellent village tavernas in the evening rather than going farther afield. Maurice made the booking process extremely easy and all e-mails were responded to very quickly. All in all we had a fantastic, relaxing holiday and would certainly have no hesitation in staying here again or recommending the apartment to friends and family.

“Home from Home”

Reviewed 17 Mar 2012

We were going to Cyprus to complete on our own property, but needed somewhere to stay until all furniture was in place. Before the trip we met with Maurice and his wife, Caroline and found them really helpful giving us tips and advice. Pre arrival instructions were clear and we found the apartment with no problem (about 10 minutes from airport). The apartment had everything we needed was spacious and clean, it also overlooks the pool which is beautiful. A 30 second walk will get you to the gym and spa. The service at the gym and spa was excellent and equipment adequate for a workout. The beach is 15-20 minute walk, but if you're feeling lazy you can drive there and park on the beach. Paphos is no more than 15 minutes drive and would recommend this is where you do your shopping especially at the Russian market where the produce is really fresh and there are some reasonable deals to be had. Mandria itself is a sleepy village with numerous developments around it, but has really managed to keep it's original Cypriot feel. Try a meal in one of the taverna's, but be sure you're hungry the portions are big.

“1st Class”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2011

From start to finish the whole trip and experience was first rate. From quick emails to my questions to advise on the area I did not have any issues when making this booking. I would have no problem in booking again as the location was superb with a very comfy home from home feel to the apartment. ***** Thank you Nick & Aimie

“A holiday to remember”

Reviewed 7 Sep 2011

We had a wonderfull time in Cyprus. Our family loved the apartment and the location in Aphrodite Sands very much. The apartment was very comfortable and the balcony quite spacious. It was pretty hot so we spend a lot of time in and around the water. We visited some bays and archeological sites in and around Paphos (hot!), we went to the waterpark in Limassol, Trodos Mountains (Monasteries) and hired a boat in Latchi (near Polis) twice because the children loved lying in the water in a tube behind the boat and snorkeling in the crystal clear waters north of Akamas (beautifull bays here). In short, a holiday to remember and a place to visit again.
