Lido and La Pinetta beaches are literally a 5 minute walk away from the apartment. These beaches provide sunbeds, cafe/bar, beach showers. There is a busy weekly market just outside the apartment every Wednesday morning.Alghero is a bicycle friendly town with dedicated cycle lanes and routes. For those adrenalin junkies among you, Lido beach is a great place for kite surfing in the Autumn when the prevailing Mistrale winds are blowing..
Location description from owner
The Sardinia region
Alghero and the surrounding area, in the north-west of Sardinia, is one of the island's most seductive towns. It was ruled by the Spanish between the 14th and 17th centuries and this influence is seen in the old quarter, called Barcelonetta, or Little Barcelona. The cobbled streets here still have a distinctive Catalan character and to this day, the locals speak a Catalan dialect. The new town spreads out on the other side of the 16th-century walls, and offers easy access to a many white, sandy beaches.
Just north of Alghero's marina is the Lido, also known as San Giovanni Beach. It is a 1.5 kilometer ribbon of sand and a great spot for sun-worshipers. For something even more spectacular, just 5 minutes away by car is Maria Pia Beach, a long stretch of ice-white sand fringed by fragrant pine forests. The Mediterranean is warm, crystalline, and child-friendly. Or head to nearby La Bombarde Beach, which has a lively line-up of beach bars with DJ s spinning the decks. There are several good restaurants within a few minutes walk of the apartment for those of you who don't fancy cooking in the evenings, and a selections of good supermarkets offering lovely fresh Italian produce and groceries, for the budding chefs among you. The old town is full of cobbled streets, sunny piazzas and waterfront walks is just a 20 minute walk away. Regular buses also run from Lido to the old town for those less energetic. The old town has an abundance of shops, cafes, restaurants and tourist attractions. The daily 'passeggiatta' or evening stroll - where all the locals dress up and go for the evening constitutional is a must. This all adds to the evening vibe and gets you in the mood for the rest of the night. There is a 9 hole Pitch and Putt Golf Course approx. 5 Kms away offering an inexpensive round of Golf. Kite Surfing is an activity that is on offer at Lido and San Giovanni beaches (October being the best month for this)

“Alghero...a real jewel in Sardinia's crown”
Having done city trips to Milan, Rome and Florence I decided to do a beach trip to one of Italy's stunningly beautiful islands. Alghero is it seems the place for Italians to holiday (certainly in june) and I can see why. The beaches are well maintained and the crystal clear waters are warm and inviting. There are not lots of English bars and cafes and for the most part we were in Italian company. However broken English is spoken enough for it not to be a problem. Serena appt is very close to several delightful sandy beaches and Maria Pia beach is particularly fantastic if you have young children, as water is quite shallow close to shore. There is also lots of amenities very close to the appt (i.e. Bank, Supermarket, Ice cream parlours, beach bars and restaurants etc) I did not rent a car although the appt has parking but the old town is only a 20 min walk along a beautiful sea side promenade but to be honest I would rather be near a nice beach and walk into the centre of town for a day trip, than a 20 minute walk to the beach. The outskirts of town is far the better option and a cab is easily found near the harbour for return) at only 10 euros anyway) if you are too full from all the delicious italian cuisine found all around you. The is no lift and the appt is on the second floor but this means you get a balcony that is more or less not overlooked (only one appt next door which at the time was empty) so great for a spot of private sun bathing in the afternoons. The apartments are very typical of the places that local Italians stay in and so although the outside of the building is not glamorous on the inside it is clean and very presentable. The Sardinian electricity supply is a bit of a frustration but I understand this is true of all of Sardinia (one can't have the air con and dishwasher on at the same time as the fuse blows!) but we are intellect and coped fine with that. The bedroom with the bunk beds is quite small but who spends time in the bedroom anyway! The sitting room is vast and has plenty of space so all is good. It was nice to have a well equipped Kitchen so that we could balance out eating in/out as we chose fit. Especially as we bought fresh produce from the local market (on wednesday) and could enjoy that at our leisure. I would definitely come back here again and enjoyed my holiday tremendously.
Thank you for the wonderful review. We try to make sure that everything is fabulous so that our guests can have a great holiday. We take note of all our guest's comments and are pleased to see that we are on the right track. Thanks once again.
“Lovely large and clean apartment perfect for a family”
We arrived to find a lovely large and very clean apartment with a huge balcony to sit out on in the sun. The main bedroom was a great size for me and hubby and the two kids stayed in the second bedroom which left a sofa bed free. Everything was available for self catering but we did not cook as so many restaurants were close by. The shower which is always important was lovely and warm and powerful. We were literally a five minute walk from the local beach which was somewhat busy but if we wondered in the opposite direction we found much quieter beaches within a ten minute walk. The walk into the old town at a pleasant stroll took around 30mins but it was a lovely walk along the beech that we took most evenings with lots going on and the old town is just gorgeous. A lovely apartment situated in an ideal position that we would highly recommend and hope to use again.
“nice apartment in good location”
very nice well equipped apartment in good location - good local restaurants and beachfront bars and about 25 min pleasant beachfront walk into old town of alghero. secure parking handy as it was very busy during the italian holiday season. 5 minutes walk to nice bread shop and supermarket and also to the nearest beach, although we went in car for 10 minute drive to more lovely beaches. directions from owner and instructions for key collection very comprehensive and thanks for the fruit! would recommend this apartment!
