Open plan Barn conversion with a double bed on the gallery and a bathroom. Downstairs there is a further bedroom on ground level with 2 single beds and a bathroom. There is room in the bedroom for another campbed as families come in all sizes so it is an option which is often taken up. There is a fully fitted kitchen with microwave and fridge and the lounge area has a big stone fireplace with a log burning stove. There is a colour TV and a DVD player and a free to use jukebox with records from the 50's, 60's and 70's. Full central heating and ample parking. All linen supplied. Although completely private The Barn is right next door to our house and I am always happy to assist with any questions if required.

Suitable for all types but many of our guests are here in The Black Country to visit family and friends and when entertaining often make full use of The Juke Box, great for a party of all ages! For people travelling from overseas and would like the option to shop online for their groceries I am happy to take delivery and put things away on their day of arrival. For larger groups The Stable just across the garden from The Barn provides extra accommodation for 2 people and an be booked separately.

There is a small step from the front door into the property and so would be suitable for somone who has difficulty climbling stairs as the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom can all be accessed from ground level. It has a flat screen TV, DVD player and Wi-fi but is comfortabley furnished with antique pictures on the walls and a well stocked bookcase with books on the area as well a novels which guests are quite free to take away with them.

A timed light switch at the front door gives easy access when its dark. There is a key safe at the front door which is required sometimes if a guest is expected and we aren't around to pass on the key. Parking is right outside the front door in the quiet little Lane.

At the rear of the property there is a small yard with a table and chairs in the summer months. It is completely private but steps lead onto the lawn behind New Wood Farm and guests are quite free to use the garden. Our border collie dog Meg will call round to say 'hello' but quickly gets the message if guests are not dog lovers. If encouraged however, she will be your friend forever and has been known to get Christmas cards from children literally all over the world.
Lots going on at this time of year. The Black Country Museum and the German Christmas market in Birmingham are wonderful.

Getting around

A car is useful but not essential and many guests use the local buses to get around if they chose not to drive. Bikes can be safety locked away, and with the canal just 2 minutes down the bridle path it’s the perfect spot for cyclists. (We have had Olympians stay here). The local Taxi service is excellent too.

House rules

We do ask that our guests observe wherever possible the rules on recycling rubbish which is in the red book. Guests love our juke box, which is free to play but we do ask that it's switched off when not in use.
We also ask if anyone is bringing along their dog that they abide by our Pet rules policy which is standard to most self catering properties. (To be forwarded on request) Other than that we just want our guests to have a comfortable and pleasant stay here.

This is one of the nicest cottages we have stayed in. It was cosy, clean and comfortable and really well equipped. There was so much to do in the area and we wouldn't hesitate to return. I can't recommend this cottage highly enough. Thank you so much.

“Home from home.... Just a couple of areas of improvement”

Extremely welcoming and comfortable. Great location and good provision of basics. Vase of daffs and some chocolate rice crispy cakes were a nice touch on our arrival. Very quaint cottage and an ideal experience for overseas travelers coming to the uk for a traditional country experience. We travelled from Australia and would have welcomed the offer of a basic food basket - bread, milk, tea bags etc. quite a usual optional extra offered in Oz. Towels were just large bath, with no hand towels, they were a little musty - could have done with an airing prior to our arrival. But those are the only minor negatives stopping the rating being excellent!

I wasn't aware that you were arriving from Australia or else I would have offered either to get you some shopping or suggested an online delivery which is what usually happens. Due to legality issues over food allergies it's not usual to leave even the most basic foods as even milk has several choices. We could have addressed the towels issue as I always leave guests to settle in before knocking the door to make sure they are happy with everything. I can only apologise now as I would have sorted that out immediately when I came around to see you. However, our guests reviews are important to us, so thank you for bringing this to our attention. “Home away from home”

Just returned home to Australia from a 3 1/2 week stay at The Barn with 2 x 5year olds. This is a great holiday rental and it felt like home. Linda has decorated the cottage beautifully feeling very "English". The layout was perfect with a kids room on the ground floor and a parents room on the landing. The bathrooms, kitchen and lounge area were well equipped and our children loved the jukebox. Central heating was also great as the weather cooled down. We were visiting relatives in the West Midlands and the closeness to good roads and only 5 minutes to public transport made it easy for us to commute. Stourton is a lovely area and short walk to the canals made it an interesting place to go for walks, including a walk to Kinver to a pub. There are lots of things to do in the West Midlands for families and this was a great base for day trips. Mike and Linda respected your privacy but were always available if needed. We would be happy to book again next time we visit the UK.

Our stay at the barn was very comfortable very clean and relaxing great walks for the dogs would recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in the area. Linda and Mick are very welcoming made to feel at home fabulous stay for the month we had there.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

If Linda (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
