We are in the heart of Dedham Vale AONB and Stour Valley. There are very good restaurants and bistro pubs in the locality and an award winning farm shop in the next village. Souters is a good base from which to explore the countryside and other East Anglian delights, being just 5 minutes drive from the A12 midway between Ipswich and Colchester. The historic market town of Hadleigh is 5 miles away with buildings of interest and an individual high street with varied shopping opportunities.

Ideal for a quiet break to enjoy the surrounding Constable countryside by foot or bicycle. Dedham is an attraction for artists and is just 2 miles away with art gallery and shop, Munnings museum and tea houses.

Location description from owner

The East Anglia region

Souters is within the beautiful Dedham Vale and Stour Valley - real Constable Country. There are many events in all seasons organised by the Dedham Vale AONB and Stour Valley Project including guided evening summer walks and varied talks about the local history, fauna and flora.

East Anglia is one of the driest regions of the country. Beth Chatto gardens, cafe and shop are an easy drive away and provide inspiring ideas on how to cope with drought-like conditions in the garden.

Higham Point to Point course is a short stroll from the property for winter weekend entertainment; the Marks Tey course is about 10 miles away.

Most country pursuits are available in the area.

There are many beautiful historic towns to visit including Hadleigh, Lavenham, Sudbury, Colchester and Ipswich.

Ipswich

Ipswich is a lively town for the arts with three theatres, lots of museums, shopping for those interested and a variety of good places to eat. Colchester also has a thriving Arts scene including theatres and galleries. Both towns have food and arts based festivals throughout the year.

There are many good farm shops in the area selling local produce and a growing number of micro breweries and vineyards.

The Suffolk coast, including Snape Maltings, Aldeburgh and Southwold are within easy reach for a day out.

“Great Cosy getaway.”

Reviewed 17 Feb 2016

From booking to leaving we had very good communication with the owner, who was very friendly and helpful. On arrival to the property (which we got to very late in the evening), we found it extremely welcoming and lovely and warm. We were even left a lovely tin of freshly made scones and jam. The cottage has all of the amenities needed. We LOVED! the underfloor heating throughout and we also tried out the log burner after we got back from a freezing cold walk on the beach at Clacton-on-sea. Our dog loved the enclosed field just up the drive, as we were able to let him run off the lead.

“ROMANTIC”

Beautiful & Tranquil setting, its a romantic hideaway. Had everything we needed, couldn't have asked for anything more, its a perfect "getaway from it all" home from home. Stayed in Souters Barn and Gribbles Shephers Hut....awesome...

“A fairytale cottage in the woods”

Reviewed 30 Jul 2013

We stayed at Souters for 10 days whilst visiting family in the area and thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful peaceful location, which is secluded and yet so close to Constable country and the Ipswich/Colchester area. The owners, Nick and Cath were very helpful and friendly - whilst not being intrusive - and Cath's home baked cake was very welcome! The cottage itself is spacious, well equipped and very pleasant, whilst he garden is huge and surrounded by woodland. Lovely!

“Perfect”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2013

What a perfect place, clean and tidy, gorgeous surroundings. Situated perfectly between Ipswich and Colchester. Right from the moment of driving into the lane leading to the cottage it felt magical. Waking up every morning to a beautiful garden, plants and wildlife. Everything you could need for your stay is provided. The cake, flowers and milk on arrival was a thoughtful addition. Cannot wait to come here again

“A beautiful cottage in a lovely tranquil setting”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2013

Souters is an exceptionally beautiful cottage set in beautiful English countryside. We went for a weekend break at the beginning of summer. Fortunately the weather was great but we would have been more than happy had it been raining and we'd had to have sat inside all weekend. The cottage was homely with a real country feel. It is well equipped and the scones and jam made by Cath were a lovely added extra. Nick and Cath made us feel very welcome without being intrusive, they made it very easy for us to feel at home and everything we needed was provided. The surrounding countryside was beautiful and there was plenty to see and do. We would highly recommend the Angel Inn in Stoke-by-Nayland for dinner. The Crown Inn opposite was great too but a bit expensive. There is a lovely Farm Shop nearby with a great selection of local produce. There is a great boathouse in Dedham where you can rent a boat and row along the river. The cottage was definitely the highlight of our trip and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing break in a beautiful setting. I have no bad things to say about Souters and can't wait to return in Winter and try out the log fire!

“A perfect, quiet, secluded place to stay in a beautiful woodland setting.”

The unassuming converted stable building has an excellent living space inside which features a fully equipped high quality kitchen at one end of the large lounge dining area complete with log burning stove, a luxury bathroom and cosy bedroom; all presented in very good clean order with all the wooden beams showing. We really enjoyed our stay here, particularly having breakfast sat outside in the garden, with just the trees and bird song for company.

“Quiet secluded cottage. Great stay for any occasion”

Reviewed 23 Jun 2013

Booked the cottage for two days in June. A lovely warm cottage close enough to some great amenities such as a local farm shop and restaurant. The owners are lovely and leave you to relax with no interruption. Highly recommended and will hope to visit again in the future.

“The other complimentary reviews are spot-on”

Reviewed 11 Jun 2013

We have no complaints or constructive feedback about Souters - Nick & Cath were really nice, the barn was gorgeous, the scones were fluffy, the flowers were beautiful, everything was exactly as it said on the tin (and the tin was of a very high standard).

“Perfect for a quiet retreat to the countryside with lots to do in the area”

Reviewed 9 Jun 2013

This was a very easy holiday to book through Nick. Prompt communication and efficient systems made the process very simple. We made use of the reviews before booking and found every word to be a true reflection of our experience. Nothing was too much trouble when we were there and the cottage and facilities within, were excellent. We loved being tucked away in our own secluded spot on the farm, left to enjoy the wildlife and the tranquillity. The location is perfect with easy access to all areas of Suffolk with a good of variety of things to see and do. Most useful were the plentiful resources in the cottage to help you plan days out; leaflets, magazines, maps and guided walks. This gave us a real flavour of the county and what was available close by. Nick and Cath have invested much time and energy to create a perfect retreat and they ensure that your holiday is a memorable one.

“A tranquil retreat in a stunning area”

Reviewed 3 Jun 2013

We stayed for two nights at souters with our children. We had a wonderful time. The accommodation was lovely, very clean and well presented with fresh flowers and i loved the homemade jams on offer too. There was a lovely wood burner as well as underfloor heating so we were lovely and cosy. The bed was very comfortable and the facilities fantastic, they even included a utility room with a washing machine and drying rack- which was great when you have two kids. The kids had a great time running around the garden , bug hunting and listening to the birdsong. We were all able to relax and enjoy the stunning surroundings. Nick and Cath were fantastic, very helpful and friendly. Souters was a lovely place to get away from it all, even though we only stayed a few nights we came home feeling well rested. We will definitely come back for longer next time. I would highly recommend Souters to anyone who wants some peace and quiet to relax in a stunning area.
