Location description from owner

The England region

Ingestre village (pronounced Inn-guess-tree) lies in the heart of the Staffordshire countryside on the edge of the Cannock Chase area of outstanding natural beauty.

For centuries Ingestre has been the home of the Chetwynd-Talbot family who in 1858 inherited the earldom of Shrewsbury. It still retains the feel of an estate village and many of the farm buildings attached to the Hall are listed as being of architectural and historical importance.

The Hall itself was built in 1613 by Sir Walter Chetwynd, a Member of Parliament and High Sheriff of Staffordshire. His grandson, also called Walter, built the adjoining Church of St Mary the Virgin in 1676 to a design attributed to Sir Christopher Wren, architect of St Paul's Cathedral and 50 parish churches following the Great Fire of London.

Making the most of a short break or week long getaway, you could book a riding lesson at Ingestre Riding School, which is on the site of Ingestre Lodges and caters for all ages and levels. Ingestre Park Golf Club and St. Thomas Priory Golf Course are nearby or perhaps you could try clay pigeon shooting at the nearby Oakedge Shooting Ground in Shugborough, Cannock Chase and Fly Fishing.

Cannock Chase itself is a vast and beautiful forest covering a large part of the Staffordshire area, where you can visit Birches Valley an outdoor recreation centre with cycling, mountain biking, Go Ape climbing and children´s adventure playground.

Staffordshire County Show Ground hosts many events and antique markets on most weekends.

Among the attractions easily reached from Ingestre Lodges are:-

Alton Towers and Drayton Manor theme parks;

Castles at Stafford, Tamworth and Tutbury;

Stately homes at Shugborough, Sandon Hall, Moseley Old Hall, Weston Park; and why not
book into Weston Park for the V festival every summer.

Museums: Gladstone Pottery, Stoke-on-Trent; Wedgwood pottery, Stoke-on-Trent; High House, Stafford; Staffordshire Regiment, Whittington Barracks. Stoke on Trent is also home to many excellent discount outlest china stores such as Wedgwood, Waterford, Royal Doulton, Port Merion

Countryside: Dovedale and Peak District National Park; Cannock Chase.

“A wonderful place to stay with very friendly service”

Reviewed 7 Dec 2014

Magnificent entrance to the lodges with an awesome archway. Quiet, courteous and polite stable hands handling the beautiful horses within the stable area which was very interesting to see during the day. Quirky and fun features within the grounds including a 6ft white rabbit from alice in wonderland and an amazing gypsy caravan, which both created great photo opportunities. The accommodation was comfortable and warm. The utilities were plentiful. We stayed in the Chetwynd Lodge which was roomy and well designed. I have asked for a reservation a year in advance and hoping to be able to stay there again.

Owner's reply: Hi there! Thank you for your great review. It was lovely to have you with us and we're really thrilled you want to come back next year! Until then Happy xmas from us all - Anna and Aaron
