There is a large retractable Awning which can provide ample shade for the patio, and adds to your privacy.

There is a small rear outdoor yard (totally secure with high walls all round), which can be used for safe storage of bikes , surfboards or other sporting kit. It has a tap/hose which we use for rinsing surfboards and wetsuits, which can then be dried in a secure area, without cluttering the main patio.

The Canary Islands region

Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary islands (and the closest to Africa), but also the least developed so its not over-crowded. It has some of the best beaches in all Europe - many claim the world !

The location just 70km from Africa makes the climate ideal for year-round holidays. It's warm in winter and cooling breezes ensure you don't overheat in the hotter summer months.

There is something for everybody in Fuerteventura: spectacular volcanic landscapes, variety of beaches for surfing, swimming, snorkelling, or just walking. Surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers regard the Island as a world favourite. Wide choice of trips and activities such as Jeep Safaris, Dune buggy and Quad Bike safaris, Diving , Sailing trips, Island Tours, can all be found at various resorts on the Island.

El Cotillo

El Cotillo is still a "Real" village with local people living and working here. This gives it its unique atmosphere of a combination of local culture and tourist facilities. Its centred around a small working fishing harbour and an old harbour now the hub of village activities, especially at Festival times.

Compared with some of the busy resort towns such as Coralejo or Caleta de Fuste, El Coitillo is a peaceful haven of chilled-out tranquillity, but it still offers plenty to do.

A wide choice of Spanish and International restaurants are available within easy walking distance including some with traditional English menu options. A well stocked new supermarket only 200 m from the apartment makes life easy for self caterers. There is an excellent French Patisserie in the village for Coffee and Croixants, and superb cakes.

The beaches however are its main attraction. Choose from large surfing beaches (mind the waves!) to the South, or calm, lagoons with perfect white sand and excellent snorkelling to the North of the village.

“perfect christmas get-away”

Reviewed 12 Jan 2016

husband and I stayed over Christmas and enjoyed all the apartment had to offer. everything was as described. we especially liked the apartment's location, close to supermarket/restaurants, yet away from the touristy side of town. the mountain views were fab and we enjoyed our walk every day to the best beaches, around half an hour away. I recommend arranging your airport transfers with Ian and Jacqui, the keyholders, if not hiring a car.

Very pleased you enjoyed your holiday. We wished we had been there! Thank you for your review.

“Cozy and very friendly...”

...we'll try to get a booking again next year. Everything fantastic for our family of 3. Supermarket and restaurants are to reach within a small walk, the next fantastic beach is just five minutes by rental car.

Thank you for taking the time to review. Your opinions are very helpful for viewers of the website.

“Perfect apartment in a perfect position.”

Reviewed 9 Dec 2013

This is by far the best apartment we've stayed in, in El Cotillo, Fuerteventura. Spotlessly clean, fresh with quality furniture and a bed you didn't want to get out of. It has everything you need to make your stay relaxed and stress free, without it being cluttered, (like so many private lets can be)! You are greeted by the warm & friendly caretakers who show/tell you everything you need to know, as well as answer any queries you may have. Then they leave you alone to enjoy your holiday, just popping in to change the towels and bedding, but are only a phone call away if you have any problems. The position of the apartment, for me, is perfect. Looking out toward the mountains, which I found incredibly peaceful to look at, and within easy reach of both the surf beach and the lagoons. There are no noisy bars or restaurants to spoil the tranquillity when sitting outside on the patio in the evenings, yet there are some very good restaurants only a short walk away. We loved staying here and will return. You certainly do not need RCI/timeshare when you can stay in a place like this at such a reasonable price. Just perfect.

“Excellent destination for a peaceful and relaxed vacation”

The village is really peacefull but plenty of facilities so as to enjoy your stay. The apartament is comfortable, well equipped and with all the useful stuff you need at the beach Very recomendable Una excelente opcion para disfrutar de unas vacaciones tranquilas

Many thanks for your feedback Carlos, and we are very pleased you enjoyed your holiday. We hope to welcome you back to El Carmen soon.

“Magical short break”

Reviewed 2 Mar 2013

We had a fantastic week at El Carmen and are keen to return another year. The apartment is extremely well equipped, not just with the usual items, but with beach gear too. This is the kind of thing that is now so difficult to take with you on budget airlines. The whole operation was extremely smooth with helpful and friendly owners and agents. Sky spotters would love it here as there is almost no light pollution. Surfers would be in their element too. The town is not highly developed but has several good restaurants and the collection of nearby coves provides wonderful beaches for those who like to laze about all day. We were lucky with the weather in February and able to sunbathe and swim in calm and azure water. Definitely a brilliant location for a not so long haul winter break.

“Great little apartment, everything we needed”

Reviewed 23 Sep 2012

We picked this place due to its close proximity to the beaches that we like in Cotillo. It's easy to get to the lagoon beach with the little fish restaurant or over to the surfing and kite surfing beaches below the cliffs. The apartment was clean and well kitted out and had a little walled patio at the front with a view over the desert with mountains in the distance. Very peaceful. The lady who met us to give us the key was friendly and helpful. The town had some lovely restaurants - Mare Alta was our favourite, and also the bakery/patisserie for pastries and good coffee in the morning! We also enjoyed going over to Coralejo in our rental car to mix things up a bit.

“Perfect bolt hole for a relaxed family week away!”

Reviewed 20 May 2011

In a quiet corner but with everything needed to keep a family holiday running smoothly easily at hand - the supermarket being two minutes walk away! Excellent value and easily managed. Pleasant short walk to the huge surf beach south of El Cotillo, and a short drive up the lagoons to the north which are great for kids of all ages.
