Description

"Mandalay" is a beautiful villa fully enclosed for privacy with 1.5 acres of tropical gardens. The villa is set on a hill with wonderful panoramic view of the paddy fields and countryside. Furnishing is to an exceptional standard, with all rooms en-suite and benefiting from air conditioning. A veranda surrounds half of the house with comfortable seating and al fresco dining.

The pool is suitable for all the family with a specific area for children. There are 3 cabanas: from 2 of them you can sit and admire the fabulous views. The property has a manager who will cater for your specific holiday requirements (travel to beaches,amenities and tours). There is also full time security and cleaning staff. A chef is included with the rental of the house (does not include the food costs)

Our Booking Policy. To secure your booking, a deposit of 25% is required at the time of booking. Balance is due 30 days in advance of arrival date. Details of how to pay will be made available at time of booking. Cancellations will incur loss of deposit.

Please be advised that Sri Lanka has introduced an online visa system for all travellers arriving in Sri Lanka from January 1, 2012. Visitors must apply for the Electronic Travel Authorization via www.eta.gov.lk established in the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

Local transportation to beaches, shops, restaurants, supermarkets is free but any travel further than a 5 mile radius is chargeable.

Mandalay has an extensive coverered terrace where you can enjoy alfresco dining or just relax in one of the seating areas.

“Love it! Love it! Love it!”

We came to Mandalay as a family of 6 adults aged from 64 to 32 and boy did we have fun.I planned to do a lot of reading but I never got to open one book. There was just too much to see and do. On the days I was relaxing by the pool, I preferred to watch the antics of the wild life and try to identify the sounds of the all the different birds. I loved to wander round the property and smell the array of flowers, many I had never seen before. The place was just heaven on earth. Sudu, the manager is the most amazing host and he went well beyond the call of duty to make sure we had a wonderful holiday, starting from the moment he met us at Colombo airport until the day he left us back there. He is a funny, happy, caring guy and he sure knows how to show case Srilanka, wherever we wanted to go he took us and gave good advice along the way. Sudu is a real asset to have when travelling around the various scenic places we visited, too many to mention. I must also mention the staff. Chataranga is the perfect gentleman and he makes the interior if the house spotless to a very high standard. He served our food with the skill of a professional. He made us feel special and we had many interesting conversations with him as it was good to know more about his life and culture. The Chef was Sanjeev. He cooked the most delicious breakfasts, lunches (the Spring Rolls were to die for) and the evening meals were fantastic, the different Srilankan dishes just kept coming (be warned you WILL put on weight, the food is irresistible) The Gardner, Samun keeps the exterior of the house totally spotless. When we got up each morning there was not a leaf to be seen, the grass was cut, the place was swept and the pool was sparkling. You will not find this degree of dedication anywhere else. I never once saw an unhappy face from any member of staff. I'm so grateful to have found such a wonderful holiday destination and it's one I will never tire of. To sum up our holiday in Mandalay was like staying in our own private 5* + Hotel, a fantastic place, fantastic people, amazing hospitality, spectacular scenery, fabulous wildlife and constant sunshine, the whole package and a place we will return to again and again. Thank you all for the memories and we will be back! X

“Paradise Refound”

We have just experienced the most wonderful two weeks holiday at this delightful villa-a real home from home-except that we were waited upon most regally. The staff were wonderful and we couldn't have had better attention.I wish I could have brought them back with me !!! The house itself is very comfortable and has everything you could require. The gardens are kept to a high standard and contain a fantastic variety of tropical fruits inc.mangoes,papayas,bananas,passion fruits and king coconuts to name a few. Situated high on a bluff where the house catches the breeze,it overlooks water meadows where buffalo wander and a vast variety of birds can be observed;some familiar and some less so:egrets,large and small,storks, herons kingfishers,of various sizes,and irridescent green bee eaters and many I couldn't identify, whilst above wheeled kites and eagles. Chattering chipmunks greeted us in the morning as they sought the nectar in the hibiscus flowers,often competing with the humming birds. The most striking part was how peaceful it was. To my delight, after being there only half an hour, a water monitor emerged from the water course below us . We didn't see him again,but saw the evidence of his activities . We were also lucky to experience several local Buddhist weddings in the adjoining wedding hall-amazing. Our two relaxing weeks spent by the swimming pool and interspersed with outings on the river and to watch the parade of the elephants to the nearby temple were followed by four days touring some of the high spot of the island with our knowledgeable driver, Vijay. It would take too long to list them. I would most definitely recommend this establishment for it's comfort,the attention of its staff and its wonderful situation. If there was a paradise,then must have been like this and we have every intention of returning.

Our second 4 week holiday at Mandalay, its a Sri Lankan Gem. With outstanding views, ever attentive staff, excellent accommodation a wonderful experience that could not be faulted. The trips and sightseeing tours all arranged by the Manager were unforgettable and nothing too much trouble giving a real personal touch. Everything at Mandalay is first class,the pool, gardens, views and the service from the staff who will accommodate every need from shopping, cooking, sightseeing nearby beaches, visit local markets etc. all done with that big Sri Lankan SMILE. We love it!

We spend 5 memorable days at Mandalay with our two kids (12 and 17yrs). There is no better place to relax after a full week of intensive travel throughout Sri Lanka. The house is nice and cosy, the pool irresistible, the garden luxuriant, the view on the countryside breathtaking and the service provided by the caretaker five stars. He cooks, takes you to the neighbourhood for shopping, sightseeing or to the nearby beaches whenever you want. Bentota beach is fanatastic. All in all, Mandalay is an excellent value for money.

We stayed at Mandalay for 10 days with our 2 young children. The villa was beautiful and peaceful, but also conveniently located to great sights - beaches, gardens, turtle hatcheries and an impressive Buddhist temple complete with 2 resident elephants. The manager and his staff were outstanding in their hospitality and were great with the children. The chef excelled, cooking fabulous local produce and we only ate out once as staying in was so much better. Thank you to all for making our time in Sri Lanka so special, we will most certainly return.

“Perfect stress free holiday retreat, we did not want to leave!”

We have just had the holiday of a life time in Sri Lanka And that was because we trusted the local knowledge of the team behind Mandalay. We stayed in different locations on our tour, all very good but the best place was Mandalay by a long stretch. Where do I start - we were greeted with flower garlands, petals on our beds, welcome local soft fruit drinks, huge smiles and a team eager to make sure your stay was going to be perfect from the word go. I recommend you take advantage of the chef, we requested local food and left it up to him and were treated day after day to delicious new tastes and flavours that beat any restaurant we ate at, and we ate in good places under the guide of Sudu. The house is exactly as it is pictured - important when deciding where to stay from an online site as often properties are taken from the best angle. The is no bad angle to Manday the only thing the pictures can't show is the clean air, tropical breeze, calls of exotic birds, scent of jasmine in the night air, periodic chants from the local temples it is all so capturing even the most street wise grown up children my husband and I took with us succumbed to the enchantment. None of us wanted to leave to go on the excursions, to our requests before we left but tailored to perfection by Sudu we were glad we made the effort. We saw sides to Sri Lanka we would never have found on our own. We recommend local river boat trip, beach, market, temple - and will not go into detail or it will spoil your delight. There are few things that could spoil your visit, the house has good facilities by Sri Lankan standards and best of all is clean. An eager smiling house boy keeps it that way and an elderly quiet gardener works away in the background keeping the tropical paradise of a garden at perfection. The only downside we found and impossible to avoid in Sri Lanka are the Mosquitos. Not so bad at Mandalay but there so do use repellent from the word go and take soothing creams. I could go on at length explaining the hospitality was in the detail - our every request was met and more, we felt like royalty nothing was a problem so we had a problem free holiday. But do I really want to tell everyone just how wonderful our holiday was, you'll all want to go there and we might not be able to get booked for our return visit! what have I done.......

Enjoy the warm pool, views, birds then go on the fantastic tours offered. I loved the elephant orphanage, the tea plantation, the temples & observing Sri Lankan life. Lots of travelling but the scenery is so beautiful & the people are lovely. Take some pencils, paper & crayons to give to the children.
