- Very Good
This villa is amazing. The outdoor space excels itself with loads of places to relax and the pool itself is perfect. The internal of the villa is decorated beautifully and has all the amenities you need for a perfect stay. Communication with the operator is perfect meaning that you are at ease should you need any assistance. Only negative is that the property is elevated so quite a steep ramp on the way in and internally the townhouse shape would mean too many steps if you were immobile or a toddler. I should say however that once you enter the gate at the property into the amazing outdoor space you quickly forget the ramp! It’s a little out of Adeje but nothing a short trip can’t cure by bus, car or taxi. To be honest, you won’t want to leave the villa once you check in. Book now!
“Lovely villa experience”
We had a lovely holiday staying at villa zen however it’s listed as Costa Adeje but it’s actually not meaning it’s further away from amenities. I would recommend a car rental or extra cash for buses/taxis!! The villa itself is well equipped and true to the photos and we loved the private pool (well worth the extra pay to heat it) the rather steep ramp on entrance to the villa would be very difficult if it was to rain! The real selling point is definitely the outside / pool area it’s great all day long from playing in the pool in the day to a few beers late at night in the comfy areas.
Overall first impressions were good and the outside space looked lovely. Our greeter, Nicole, spoke hardly any English so we weren’t given instructions on how to operate appliances etc as specified in the booking terms and conditions. This was no big deal but because our Spanish isn’t brilliant it meant that we couldn’t ask her for recommendations on good local supermarkets, places to eat, where to get taxis / buses etc. There was also very little information in the villa to assist with these questions. Jenny was very responsive to emails and did provide us with taxi rank info and some local restaurant recommendations (although it would be useful to have this info in the villa). The inside space was a good size and the bedrooms all very big. There were a few negatives and although they didn’t bother us, they are worthy of a mention. The kitchen looks tired and well worn. None of the crockery matches and a lot of the plates are chipped. There was a lack of decent drinking glasses - no pint glasses for lager (only plastic Siam park cups) and only 4 wine glasses for a villa that sleeps 6. In the master bedroom, the waterfall showerhead is fixed so low that anybody over 165cm tall will struggle to get underneath it (there is a secondary shower head on a rail though). The games room was a nice edition but not something we really used and not a reason for us booking the villa. We noticed that the pool table was on a slant so not really useable - there were a number of books wedged underneath the legs indicating previous guests’ attempts to try and level it. The table football had no ball and some of the darts for the dartboard were broken. The area immediately around the outside of the villa isn’t the best. There is a very long steep slope up to the villa entrance which any visitors with walking difficulties may find a struggle. Immediately behind the villa is a public footpath where the local youths liked to hang out on an evening making general noise and on one occasion, letting loud bangers off (until we shouted at them to move on). There is also a concrete football pitch behind the villa covered in graffiti where the youths hang out and it did become very annoying on the evenings when they were constantly kicking the ball against the metal fencing causing it to ricochet and make an awful loud noise. The villa is located in Adeje town. We knew that when we booked it. We hired a car which in our opinion is essential if you want to get out and about. The nearest decent supermarket we found was about 5 minutes away in the car. The taxi rank is only a 5 minute walk from the villa and taxis were costing us around 10 euros to get to Playa Torviscas. The villa is an end townhouse in a long row of similar type properties with another row of townhouses immediately in front of it. It is just down the road from a school which was not a problem during our stay as it wasn’t term time, but if anything like UK schools the area will be awash with children and parents at school start and finish times. Our main issue with this villa and the reason why we have scored it so low was the pool. It looked lovely and inviting and was a good size but it wasn’t warm. We paid extra for it to be heated and there was only one day out of the whole fortnight when the temperature rose above 22 degrees. Several emails were sent to Jenny about this and she continually assured us it was working correctly and would warm up. It was only on our last day when a maintenance man visited that we were told that the pool heater was broken. Jenny did apologise and our payment for pool heating was refunded but it spoilt our holiday. We purposely booked a villa with a heated pool and because it was so cold, we were unable to use it as much as we had wanted. Jenny has accepted there was an issue and has offered us a discount on a future stay at the villa but we won’t be visiting again so we have asked for a refund on our current booking. At this point, Jenny stopped communicating with us.
Owner's reply: Thank you for sharing your impressions in order to clarify the doubts to all those people who might be interested in staying at our house in the future. Following your recommendations on the crockery and glasses. We appreciate your opinion. The glasses and plates are constantly replaced because we understand that it is normal that these are usually broken with use. We stock new plates and glasses in the store of the house, as well as darts and balls for the table football, for this type of specific situations. If at any time you miss something important for your stay, you know that we are in contact by phone or email to meet these requests. There is an access ramp to our house and the adjoining houses that is approved by Adeje's urbanism department. In our ad, the house appears as not suitable for people with reduced mobility, for this reason and for the stairs that the house has. The house is located in an urban area, and near the house there is a small soccer field where in the afternoons there are children or young people playing football. Nothing that alters the life of our house, nor of the rest of neighbors of the area. Behind the huge parking lot opposite the house, you can see the side of a secondary school whose access is through another street. This has never been a problem of noise. About the pool, we are sorry if it did not meet your expectations. The heating machine was working normally for the first 10 days of your stay as indicated by our maintenance person. Please keep in mind it is an exterior pool and the machine gets lukewarm water, not warm. If it is true, that the weeks you stayed was especially cold at nights (13 degrees), and as I explained you, the outdoor pool loses temperature that recovers along the day. After your messages, I called to the pool man to reprogramme the machine to get the water to the maximum possible temperature (a program only recommended for indoor pools) and it was a bad solution because the back of the machine frozed and for this reason it had to be 1 day off before reconnecting , coinciding with your departure from the house. For this reason we refunded the paid amount for this service. As our heating machine is in warranty, we have already contacted the official technical service to check it deeply and avoid any trouble in the future. We are sorry for the inconvenience this could cause. At all times the communication was fluid and we tried to make your stay as good as possible. Jenny
Just returned from a stay in villa zen. Perfect location and the villa was fantastic everything we needed was there. Very clean and the outside space was beautiful and the pool was fab . We were shown around by Jenny's brother who was helpful and although we did not meet Jenny she was on hand by text. Anytime I had a question she responded very quickly. Thank you for a lovely holiday we will be back
Owner's reply: Thank you very much! Jenny & family
“Wow!!!! Beautiful Villa”
Wow what can I say this really is an amazing villa, the pool is fabulous the outside space is beautiful & the location is great, cabs down to fanabe & playas around 8 euros lots of lovely Spanish bars & restaurants within 5 minutes walk. If you walk up the hill to the old Adele village it is wonderful & there is a restaurant at the top of the hill with breathtaking views of the mountains. Really couldn't fault it in any way & we want to book it for our summer holiday next year!!! One little thing if you have toddlers with you bring some plastic cups no hardship though thanks Jenny for a fabulous holiday x

“Wow! Amazing villa, perfect stay”
The villa was booked for 4 us of (2 adults and 2 teenagers) for a week. Jennifer was helpful and attentive, communicating with us before our holiday with information, making sure that someone was there to meet us and show us around, helping us with ideas on places to eat and finally very kindly organising an early morning taxi to take us to the airport when we left. The villa its self is amazing, the pool and the outdoor areas were clean, well equipped and welcoming. There was even sun bed towels for us to use. We made use of the BBQ almost every day and it was lovely to have a dishwasher in the very well equipped kitchen. The beautifully decorated lounge (with huge TV, lots of DVD's books, board games to use) was perfect after a days walking or swimming. The bedrooms were comfortable and extra bedding was available along with fans if it got too hot. Nothing was missed to make our stay perfect. The games room was fabulous and we spent a couple of evening playing pool and darts - perfect for teenagers (and adults!) The surrounding area is quiet - which we loved - but nothing was more than a short walk away (supermarket/taxi rank/restaurant/bus stop) and we made the most of being able to hop on the Titsa buses to head to the beach/Los Christanos etc which was a mere €6 for 4 of us each way - so cheap and easy and reliable too. We even took the Titsa bus to Teide for the day - again a total bargain and buses easy to use. We will be returning to Villa Zen as I cannot think of anywhere else in Costa Adeje I'd rather stay. A perfect base to explore that part of the island from.
Owner's reply: Thank you very much for this review. We are sure it will be very useful for future guests. We are glad that you have had a pleasant stay in our house. We hope to see you again very soon! Kindest regards!
“Very relaxing surroundings”
Spent a wonderful holiday at Villa Zen in February with our group of four adults and three kids aged 6, 4 and 1 . Villa is just perfect for families and the garden with the pool and all the cosy corners and day-beds was absolutely gorgeous. The kitchen was well equipped and would have been perfect with a dishwasher( yes, we are lazy...) and the BBQ by the pool was great. The location is excellent, the area is quiet yet there are nice local restaurants and groceries in 10 minutes walking distance, even the huge supermarket is only 15 minutes by foot. We did not have a car and did not find it necessary, we used a taxi whenever we needed to get around, very easy and reasonably priced. I can warmly recommed the villa for anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing atmosphere and beautiful sunsets by the pool and on the other hand wants to have all the attractions of a busy town within a 15 minutes ride when needed. Thank you Luis, we´ll be back next year. Kati&co
Owner's reply: Thank you very much for your nice comments about villa Zen and your feeling about Adeje. Thanks to the townhall way of acting and improving , Adeje has become one of the most beautiful typical towns in Canary Islands with a lovely traditional main street with nice trees , our Church with amazing views, parks for children, shops and open air cafes and restaurants overlooking the sea and Gomera island and just 10 minutes from Villa Zen.Thank you again. It was a pleasure meeting you and your nice family.Best Regards,Luis
“Beautiful Villa in Spanish Location”
This was a lovely large villa with a beautiful garden and pool. We were welcomed by the owner and any queries were answered immediately. I would recommend use of a car if you have a family, although the village does have a number of cafes and resturants, we found the flexibility of a car preferable and enable us to travel widely around the island and to the many beaches. There are a large number of stairs from the top bedroom to games room over four levels which we had not appreciated, and ensured extra exercise! Overall we had a relaxing happy holiday and would recommend this villa.

“Can't Wait to Return”
I have spent Christmas and New Year in Tenerife most years for more than 30 years now and have stayed in many villas, timeshares, hotels and apartments as my needs have changed. Now a family of four with two children under five a villa is the best option and this is the best villa I've stayed in on the island. I'm reluctant to write the review as I don't want others to find this gem but feel it's only fair on the owner Luis who could not have been more helpful and friendly during our stay. The villa itself is in a small residential complex and is semi-detached. The complex is very quiet, there are grocery shops within easy walking distance and large supermarkets 5 mins drive away. We hired a car and had no problem using the free car park opposite the villa which had plenty of spaces all the time we were there. You have to cross a very quiet road and walk up a slope to access the villa but on arrival Luis and Alberto ( who looks after the pool and grounds) were there to help us with our luggage and show us round the villa. Behind the villa is a football and basketball court which the local children used. Some reviewers have commented on the area negatively but it is simply a residential area and for us far preferable to being in the centre of a noisy tourist resort, there was no noise at night. It is close to some lovely restaurants and beaches. We never spent more than 15 mins in the car to get to either. The pool area is stunning with lots of little nooks to find a quiet spot to relax, including a lovely outdoor bar-b-que area. We arrived just before Christmas and the large tree at the poolside was decorated with oversized Christmas decorations which our children loved. The pool has a lovely shallow end with large steps leading down and seats to sit on in the water. Our two year old spent a lot of time playing on the steps knee high in water whilst our five year old was jumping in the deep end. Unfortunately the pool heating had broken and the pool was too cold to use for the first two/three days. However we phoned Luis and despite this being the weekend before Christmas he managed to get an electritian out to fix it, it took a while to warm up but we had a lovely warm pool in the end. Not only did Luis fix the problem as quickly as he could but he refunded the extra money we had paid for pool heating and gave us a bottle of wine by way of an apology. You can't really ask for more than that. The children's play room was lovely, secure and outdoor with access down a flight of stairs from the kitchen. They played there every morning while we made breakfast. Yes some of the toys are worn but there's no need to take any toys with you at all and you're not worried about your children spoiling pristine toys. Our 2 and 5 year old played happily with the toy kitchen, playhouse and dozens of teddies. I've never seen anything like this in any villa anywhere. My only word of caution would be to mention the number of steps and stairs. There are lots of steps around the pool area and three flights of stairs in the villa as it's over four floors. There is a stair gate on the stairs that lead down from the living room to the pool room. Our two year old managed fine with close supervision but I'm glad we weren't here last year when she had just learnt to walk. The only thing missing in the villa was a dishwasher! Overall I would definitely recommend this villa and am booking it again for this year.
Owner's reply: Thank you very much your comments. It is very nice to know that your holidays were as expected as you have been so many times in Tenerife. Very nice also to know that your lovely children liked Villa Zen and we will always try to do the best for your satisfaction. Thank you also for your comment and good idea about dishwasher. We will install it for your next holiday with us.It has been a real pleasure meeting you.Luis
“Good points bad points”
Villa Zen is a nice retreat from the hectic tourist areas of South Tenerife. The house is in Adaje town in a smll condominium complex. Adaje, which as the owner and others have said, is a small village with a pleasant atmosphere. The locals are working people who seem to accept the tourist presence with calm and patience. Be prepared for limited language skills and less amenities than in the touristy areas. The locals can be noisy in the evenings with kids and teens being active until midnight but it's not nearly as bad as the drunken revels in the more tourist oriented cities. Parking is in a public lot across from the complex and not private as the ad implies. The villa itself is beautifully decorated and if you have a fondness for Thai style surroundings you will feel very at home. The Buddha statues are superb and the Thai detailing is soothing and calm. Many of the furnishings are better than the Ikea standard found in most villas but Ikea products are present as well, albeit in less abundance. In particular the kitchen kinves, cooktop and pans are pretty poor quality and you shouldn't be expecting to do any serious cooking, but for a holiday let it's no worse than most. Having said that, villa owners charging premium prices could at least replace worn knives and provide standard items like a spatula for their guests. Living room furniture is OK but tired. Bedrooms are acceptable but the mattresses on the beds are not top quality and the pillows were so thin that we bought replacements locally. The king sized bed in the top bedroom isn't more than a queen size. The ad says three bathrooms but we only found two with one downstairs WC. The kids play area is OK but toys are well loved and our 18 month child was only interested for a short time. As for safety the stairs to,the play area are a problem without supervision, which also applies to the stairs to the first and second floors although there is a child safety gate to the games room area. Parents should also note that the pool has no shallow end and even the grown ups had trouble standing in the shallower end (1M 80). The equipment in the games room comes from a closed down bar and has had a great deal of use. The billards (not snooker) table is really worn and be prepared to struggle without a bridge or short que. The foosball table requires a 1 euro coin (refunded at end) for only 2 balls but still it's nice to have the space and toys available for less serious play. The real issue for our two week stay was the service provided. while Luis is a pleasant host we found his attentiveness less than we hoped for. We pre-paid for both pool heating and Internet and had problems with both. Internet access is supplied via a USB modem (very slow compared to broadband) which we were not able to use on our Macintosh computers. Luis did refund the charge but was no help in getting us a replacement so we struggled for almost a week to sort it out for ourselves. (Hint for Mac users don't try the Adeje Movistar stores go instead to an Orange store in the Playa las Americas for help, but be prepared to spend about 100 Euros for 2GB of download access). The pool heating was set to 22 degrees which our kids found cool and it took several emails and a visit (only once and on demand) to get it feeling really warm. While the ad promises a twice weekly maid service we didn't get it and in fact had to request clean sheets and towels after the first week and the replacement towels supplied were 4 small hand towels which we found was insufficient for a family of 5. It's not a great problem if you expect this but the ad shouldn't promise what the owner can't deliver. Overall the Villa Zen has a lot going for it but if you are expecting a premium experience you should be prepared to look elsewhere because this rental was not as four star as promised.
Owner's reply: Thank you for your comments which some of them have helped us to improve small details in villa Zen to continue having a high satisfaction from our guests.Small things any guest may need for the kitchen, we are 24 hours available and it is a pleasure to bring to the house if needed. In relationship with the pool ,we have done a big investment one month ago to make it more relaxing as it was very deep for children. Now it has an area with four relaxing stone thai beds inside the pool where it is now 1 metre deep for 3 metres and then it starts going from 1 metre to 1.80 m in the deepest area. The pool is 9 metres long so it is quite nice and relaxing when swimming with 24 degrees. We have also installed colour lights that change every 15 minutes and give an even more relaxing athmosphere in the garden area at night.
