The house is located down a quiet side lane within view of the river and its bridges, it is very central in the most historic area of Confolens, and as such all the lovely bars and restaurants in town are all on our doorstep or just a short picturesque walk away, you can leave the car parked and embrace the friendly ambience of the town without worrying about taxi journeys.

We have created a stylish French holiday let that has everything you would expect to self cater should you wish to dine and relax at 'home', and enjoy the fresh, extra tasty organic produce often grown and sold by local producers from the market day in town.
A beautiful outside public park and picnic area is just 200 metres from our door! This 'beach' on the the river Vienne is just a small walk from the house, it sits on a picturesque point on the river in between a beautiful weir with water mill and the towns road bridge. There is a sandy beach zone in the Summer season, so take a picnic basket and enjoy a meal in the fresh air in an amazing setting on one of the several picnic benches or take a blanket; this area has the added holiday atmosphere of boat hire from the professional kayak and boat hire situated here during high season.
A further walk up the river and you reach Confolens own open air Swimming Pool with water flumes, again it is aside the River Vienne along with countryside views, what better way to enjoy the glorious summer in this Charente, which is second only to the Cote d'azur for Sunshine hours and temperatures! Pull up a sun bed, take a dip, have fun, and don't forget the sun cream!
There is adequate and convenient free parking just near the house on the quiet street adjacent, and the house is settled away from any traffic, so a tranquil invigorating stay awaits you.
There are a number of French and English bars and restaurants to enjoy within the town all a short pleasant walk away.. so no taxi's required, enjoy the local wine! All with the beautiful backdrop of this gorgeous little town, a beautiful river-scape panorama, fine examples of historic half timber architecture and picturesque square, and church with its dramatic lit Gothic tower, gives this jewel of the Charente an almost fairytale like quality!
All surrounded everywhere for miles and miles with the most stunning countryside, vineyards and wildlife. It has something for everyone!
The city of Poitiers with the second most popular theme park in France (Futurescope) is 50 minutes away by car.
Angouleme, Cognac, Limoge, and La Rochelle and Bordeaux on the coast are well worth a visit.
This beautiful medieval town itself sits on either bank of the wide river Vienne in the Poitou Charente region of South West France, it is 40 minutes by car from Limoge airport (27 miles) which is well served, and incredibly economical by Ryanair from several British airports.
Confolens town is preserved and highlighted as a town of special historic significance with its 8th century Roman bridge spanning the wide river, and is one of France' Petite Cites de Caractere!
The river itself is central to this community and its ancient industries and has a beautiful 'beach' and picnic area with kayak and boat hire which is only a minutes walk from our door.
The town is self contained and well serviced with plenty of shops and two supermarkets, intermarche and lidl, with regular markets and always something going on during summer festival season.
The confolens international music festival attracts thousands of people during a week in early August (9-15th August 2017) a happy carnival atmosphere where music fills the streets. We recommend early booking for this as central accommodation is highly sought after during this period.
