“Never wanted to leave!”

Reviewed 1 Dec 2015

Myself and my family stayed in Dunowen House the night before a family wedding and it really made the weekend special and memorable. With lots of living areas and big rooms it was ideal for a large group. Each bedroom was special in its own way which left nobody dissappointed; the house itself was spotless and warm on a very wintery day. We opted for a catered dinner provided by the owners in the house; the food was really tasty (and I think great value for money) with lots to go around, and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. The owners were very accommodating and friendly while giving us our space as well. All-in-all I can't recommend Dunowen House highly enough. I hope we'll be back sooner rather than later!

It was a pleasure to have to you and all your lovely extended family. Thank you so much for the feedback and recommendations. We'll be very happy to see you back anytime in the future & hope the next time the weather will be a lot drier! Best wishes, Kela & Stephen

“No need to look anywhere else..this is where you need to stay!”

Just back after spending a weekend in Dunowen House with a group of ladies for my Hen Party. The moment you arrive you know that's it going to be a great weekend. The House is fabulous from top to bottom. We loved the music room to hang out in over the weekend. It had lots of seating, instruments to play if you wish including a piano, loads of cd's to choose from and a lovely wood burning stove that Kela and Stephen had lit for us on arrival along with lovely home made scones. The bedrooms upstairs are beautiful too, spme with free standing baths in the rooms! Kela also offers a dine in service where she cooks for everyone. She cooked dinner for 21 of us on one of the evenings and it was really delicious using all local seasonal produce she was able to sit us all together in the dining room which was really well received by everyone. Kela also put us in touch with a local horse riding centre so that some of the girls could horse ride on the beach and even organised a bus for us to go out in Clonakilty that night! If you are looking for somewhere really special to stay in West Cork, Dunowen House is it and Kela and Stephen are the people to make it happen!

Thank you so much for your lovely kind words and positive feedback about your stay with us here at Dunowen House. It was a pleasure to have you all here! We love it when guests leave Dunowen having enjoyed it as much as we do. Hopefully we'll see you back in West Cork in the near future. Kela & Stephen

“Great Hen Weekend”

Reviewed 3 Apr 2015

I rented Dunowen House for a full weekend in March for my sisters hen celebrations. I could not have imagined just how relaxing and enjoyable the whole experience would be, even as the only bridesmaid and sole organiser of the hen weekend. I must personally commend Kela and Stephen for their part in making the weekend as stress-free as possible. They were on hand to help with any query or request we had, yet they let us to our own devices in enjoying the house, which exceeded our expectations as "luxury accommodation". We were treated to superb home-cooked three-course meals on both nights and we didn't have to lift a finger. All my guests were astounded by the features of the house. How could you resist a stay anywhere that has a stand-alone bathtub in the bedrooms?! And what better place to catchup with friends than in front of roaring log fires, with music playing, a glass of wine in hand and surrounded by that comforting familiar laughter. Countless memorabilia in the dedicated "music room" proudly salutes the late Jimi Hendrix and Noel Redding...a dream feature of the house for fans and music enthusiasts of all ages. Feedback from guests (once they came around from being absolutely speechless after seeing the house) was that Dunowen House was the perfect location for a luxurious getaway weekend with friends. And each and every one of those guests is planning their next trip back. The best attraction for us-we only live minutes away in beautiful Clonakilty and picked Dunowen House as our "hen getaway". We may not always have the best weather here in West Cork, but Dunowen House, well it's a haven no matter what the forecast.

It was just lovely to have you all, your friends and family here to celebrate your hen and upcoming wedding. We are blessed to have such appreciative guests who take the time to post their feedback. Stephen & I wish you the very best for the wedding and the future. Hope to see you all again at Dunowen House. Kela & Stephen

“Perfect rural getaway met with five star hospitality”

Truly unforgettable experience. Would recommend it to anyone. My wife and I were looking for a relaxing weekend away in the rolling hills of west Cork and Dunowen House was our B&B destination. Fantastic! 20 minutes outside Clonakilty at the end of a quite boreen, this is country seclusion at its best. The private entrance immediately makes you feel like you are visiting friends. We were greeted by our hosts Kela and Stephen who made us feel right at home. Our luxurious room, the cathedral room due to its high wooden beamed ceiling, includes a standing bath in addition to an modern en-suite. The peaceful countryside outside and clean comfy warm room ensured and great night’s sleep. In the morning Kela prepares your delicious breakfast (per request), with all produce locally sourced (the black and white pudding!), in addition to the homemade breads, scones and, jams. Stephen advised us on the best spots to see in the area. Check out the nearby (half mile) Sands cove. Returning to Dunowen for the evening, we were free to relaxed in either of the uniquely decorated living rooms. This former home of the late musician Noel Redding added to the character and allure of the house. Listen to music, watch TV or browse through the many books that occupied the room, this felt like a home away from home. Looking forward to returning.

Thanks for your lovely review, hope to see you back in the near future and with your new arrival! Kela & Stephen

“5 Star Luxury with Laid-back Charm”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2014

Just returned from a fantastic escaped to the country in Dunowen House. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and feel revived after the experience. The house is fabulous. Our room was so elegant and inviting. The bath tube was huge!! We both had the best sleep we’ve had in ages due to the comfy bed and peaceful surroundings. The welcome we received from the proprietors, Kela and Stephen, was exceptional. The perfect balance of attention and privacy. Kela’s tasty full Irish breakfast set us up nicely each morning and her banana bread is hard to beat. Stephen gave us great advice on the neighbouring areas and what was worth visiting. We drove along a section of the Wild Atlantic Way, which is truly stunning. In the evenings, we were happy to simply hangout in the house. My husband and I are music fans and the house is full of rock and roll memorabilia from the Jimi Hendrix Experience. We lounged around on the comfy sofas listening to 'choons', leafing through the many books and of course sipping some wine. I felt like Noel Redding himself could walk in any minute and start strumming the guitar in a quite corner. I highly recommend a visit to Dunown House. I will certainly return for a self catering visit with a gang of my friends.

Thanks for such great praise. We are delighted you enjoyed your B&B break with us so much. Hope to see you all again in the near future. Kela & Stephen

“Most Amazing House in a Truly Idyllic Location”

Our family enjoyed the House as much as they enjoyed West Cork. Kela and Stephen were wonderful hosts, who treated us like we were part of their family.

Many thanks for your lovely comments. We really enjoyed having you all to stay and introducing you to this fabulous corner of West Cork. Kela & Stephen

“Large family, small wedding”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2014

We had a great week at the house, very clean and tidy on arrival, and a very relaxed welcome by Kela. We arranged a local supermarket to do a home delivery the day we arrived and Kela had put it all away for us by the time we got there, nice helpful touch. We stayed with 3 generations of family, 18 in total so a full house but plenty of room to spread out and even with 6 small kids running around it never felt cramped. We got married during our week away (at a local hotel) and we were so lucky to have beautiful weather the whole time. A great part of Ireland and so quiet and peaceful, highly recommended.

Thank you for the lovely words. You were blessed with the weather and the fact that Ardfield Festival was on during your stay was a wonderful intro into the great community spirit here. Best wishes for your future together, we hope to welcome you back for any future wedding anniversaries!! Kela & Stephen

“Superb holiday rental”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2014

We enjoyed a fantastic week at Dunowen House recently. It was a (large) family occasion and it was great that the house could accommodate the range of people, aged from 8 years to 84 years, staying at various times during the week. We were made more than welcome by Kela and Stephen and their little touches, such as home-made cakes and desserts, added to the pleasure gained at such a wonderful setting. Everyone who visited had nothing but praise for the accommodation, which is ideally situated in a beautiful part of West Cork. We would thoroughly recommend Dunowen House to anyone wishing to holiday in that part of Ireland.

We are so pleased you enjoyed your family holiday here at Dunowen House and of course, our lovely home baking!! Benefits of having all those apple trees in the orchard! Best wishes, Kela & Stephen

“Surpassed all expectations!!”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2013

Spent 2 weeks at Dunowen House, with large group of friends and family. The house is stunning. We were welcomed, on arrival, by Steve the dog, who was waiting under a tree as we drove up the drive. Trying to choose which bedroom to take was hard as they are all gorgeous. The space downstairs was brilliant. We had a mixture of teenagers and pre-teens in our group so it was great to have a tv room and a quiet lounge. The house was in a very peaceful location, with plenty of space for the games of cricket that took place( Milo even mowed the kids a wicket!). Sands Cove was a short walk down the road and was loved by kids and dogs. The local community of Ardfield were very welcoming, as the men paid regular visits to the local pub, The Mountain House, which was about a 25 minute walk from the house. I could go on and on about the wonderful time we had... one thing's for sure, we WILL be returning to Dunowen House!

“Amazing place- lovely owner”

Amazing house, great value and Heather is absolutely lovely. Can't recommend enough. You do need a rental car to get around but they are cheap. If you do book a rental car from easy car on the web beforehand do not buy the excess waiver insurance- it's not valid when you get here!!!
