Description from owner

Description

Champrepus cottage is a charming barn renovation built in stone, dating from about 1800.

The cottage is hidden down a small lane overlooking unspoilt countryside and is surrounded by farmland. There are often sheep, cows or horses in the neighbouring fields. It has lots of character with exposed stone walls, beams and a large fireplace with a woodburning stove.

The ground floor is open plan with the living room, dining area and kitchen all in one. The shower room and separate toilet are also downstairs. Upstairs are 2 spacious rooms, one double and 1 twin. Both have lovely views over the valley. They have high pitched ceilings clad in pine. The double room also has exposed stone walls and a large chimney breast. Both rooms are well equipped with comfortable beds, chests of drawers, hanging rails for clothes, bedside tables and lamps. There is also a central upstairs mezzanine lounge between the two bedrooms for relaxing, reading or playing games.

It is a very quiet retreat but not far from the big towns of Villedieu les Poeles, Coutances and Avranches. Walking distance to the local zoo (20 mins or 5 min drive). There are a host of lovely sandy beaches about a 20 min drive. The local swimming pool in Villedieu has a big pool, childs pool and a slide it is just 5 mins drive. The famous monument of Mont St Michel is 30 mins drive away and is not to be missed. The historical Normandy DD beaches can be reached in under 1 hour. There is a wealth of history in the local area and the Tour de France will be close by on 4th July 2016.

The cottage does not have wi-fi but it does get good reception for 3g or 4g roaming connection. It has UK tv and a dvd player.

Location description from owner

The Basse-Normandie region

This area of Normandy makes an excellent base for any type of holiday. It is quiet and rural yet has easy links to tourist hot spots and nightlife.

It is ideal for the beaches only 20 mins drive. Walking is fantastic in the region as is cycling. The Tour de France has been in the area twice in the last few years.

If you are a history buff then you will not be disappointed. WW2 DDay beaches are about an hours drive and the area of the cottage was close to the Roncey pocket and Operation Cobra.

Villedieu Les porkers us only 5 miles drive and is a medieval market town. Tuesday is market day and a great morning visit. It also has a famous bell foundry and museum plus museums for furniture if the region and lace dating back centuries.

Champrepus

The cottage is set in in a beautiful valley. 1 neighbour but not overlooked. It has a no through road leading down to it. Bordered on 4 sides by open fiields and farmland for grazing sheep, horses and cattle.

Champrepus has a bar/tabac and epicerie, (small grocers). It has a wonderful zoo with great play areas for children, lots of animals plus cafes and restaurants. Nearby Fleury has a boulangerie, 'restaurant and garage.

The A84 is easily reached in 5 mins to take you to the North of the region or down to beautiful Brittany just 45 mins. The famous Mont St Michel is 30 mins drive.

Getting around

A car is essential in this part of France as it is rural and there are not many buses close by. The train station with easy link to Paris is just a 5 mins drive away - great idea for a day trip. The roads in the area are well maintained and rarely busy. The road to the beaches is at the top of the lane. The A84 motorway which is not a toll road is only 5 mins away and gets you to Mont St Michel, Bayeux, Caen and Cherbourg easily. It is a great place to cycle but is known for its hills as the riders from the 2016 tour de France will tell you. Walking is great in the area and you can walk to the zoo at Champrepus within 20 mins.
