Whitby is a coastal town in North Yorkshire. The popular seaside town of Scarborough is a 35 minute drive South via the A171. The historic town of York is a 48 mile drive away via the A169 and A64. The famous university town of Durham is 60 miles away via the A171 from Whitby and the A19. The town has a railway station which is situated 35 miles (56 km) south east of Middlesbrough railway station and is operated by Northern, which provides all of the station's National Rail passenger services which all call at stations enroute to Middlesbrough

“Fabulous weekend in Whitby”

10 of us stayed in the Moorings celebrating a birthday. Ages ranged from 17-50. The house is wonderful, perfect location for a quick walk into town, parking for 3 cars (we actually squeezed 4 on!), and everything you need for a comfortable stay. It's huge - 2 big sitting rooms, well stocked kitchen and bedrooms/bathrooms on 2 floors so we could have some separation. There are game, dvds and books available and the wifi was spot on. All in all, a perfect place to stay and we hope to return. Thank you Anne.

Owner's reply: Really pleased you enjoyed your stay and be delighted to welcome you back in the future. As the house is so close to town it's great to have our own private parking for guests particularly as parking in the town can be quite a challenge!

Spent a family weekend at the Moorings with grand parents and grand children. We all had a great time made so much better by having fantastic accommodation. Everything was as we had hoped. The arrangements with Anne the owner were very efficient and perfect. The location is ideal with all the popular attractions, shops and pubs in walking distance. I highly recommend you consider using the Moorings for your holiday short or long stay.

This large house was plenty big enough for our group of 6 adults, 4 children, a westie & a corgi. There are two large living rooms which was great for spreading out on the comfortable settees. The large kitchen was very well equipped with a table seating 10. We were very pleased there was reserved parking opposite the property as the majority of the streets were permit holders only. The bakery a 2 minute walk is not to be missed. If you are staying in Whitby you will not need to use your car, as everything is on the doorstep. The beach is no more than a 10 minute walk, which our dogs loved. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Moorings and are planning to return next year. Sat nav was not great on arrival as some other roads are one way, so use the directions provided by the owner. Highly recommendable!

This is the 7th year we've rented a property for a family holiday but The Moorings was by far the best one yet. It was attractively furnished, very roomy and easily accommodated 9 of us ranging from 16 to 83 and Ozzie the dog. Parking was a bonus for central Whitby and if we chose to holiday in Whitby again The Moorings will be our first choice.

we travelled as a group to a choir festival and were hugely impressed by The Moorings - loads of room, very well equipped, 2 livings rooms, both with ample seating and a lovely enclosed courtyard for dining al fresco. I had the room on the second floor with the enormous 4 poster bed, really comfy and fab pillows. Seagulls are quite noisy in Whitby, so i'd recommend earplugs to ensure their dawn chorus doesn't wake you!

We are a large group of friends whose age difference span 30 years. This house suited us perfectly. Situated over 3 floors, it has a quirky layout which works very well. There are 2 large lounges which means that if there are younger members in the group they have their own space - however both rooms are large enough for all members of the group. Both are very comfortable and well appointed. The kitchen is large and well appointed with a very useful utility room next to it (especially if you have small children). The fridge here made a great wine cooler (we were 9 adults)! The bedrooms are spacious and there are enough bathrooms to avoid long waits - especially if you use the downstairs shower room. Where this house excels is in its situation; in a quiet square, it is a 2/3 minute walk into the center of Whitby and as a long time visitor, is the best location I have ever stayed in. It is a bit tricky to get to - don't be scared to go down what appear to be one way streets. If you find the Co-op Funeral service, it's first right! AND it has parking for 3 cars - this is gold in Whitby. We had a wonderful weekend, even though the weather was a bit grumpy - however we spent a very sunny couple of hours drinking Peroni in the market square and just relaxing.

This was a fabulous house to stay in - couldn't have asked for any better. All rooms are large and beautifully furnished. There is everything you need for your stay and way more besides. I stayed with 8 other people and every one of them agreed that it was a stunning place to stay and would all love to go back again. Can't rate it highly enough!

“Great House and Great Location”

Well appointed house for crockery, cooking utensils etc. Beds and bed linen clean and good quality. Cleaning materials, bin bags, salt and pepper etc all there on arrival. Heating/HW system very effective and easy to use - we needed it! Two reception rooms worked very well with 3 families. Kitchen is large but can get cosy when cooking as the lovely and necessarily large table/chairs takes up a fair space. Bedrooms all adequate to large and having 4 bathrooms in total meant cleanliness never a problem ! Location is fab. 50 yards from lovely bakers with tearooms, a pub serving hand pump ales (albeit there are even lovelier pubs (many) within 10-15mins stroll), and plenty of other shops of all varieties. We used Sainsburys (just out on the A171 - only recently opened) for our big shop but there are Heron Foods and Fultons nearby as well as two local butchers, a Poundland for any cleaning stuff and more besides. We walked the 7 miles down to Robin Hoods Bay with 4 kids from 10-14yrs - not too stenuous but very muddy/slippy on a well signed mostly cliff top path - we then demolished the fish and chips after a fairly lengthy wait - worth it! We also walked north to Sandsend (couple of miles each way on the beach) and enjoyed the cracking cafe there - huge trencherman slice of home made bakewell tart was ample reward. We had New Years Day lunch at the White Horse and Griffin across the bridge turn second left - great food at great value prices and well-kept Timothy Taylor Landlord. I spent a fab couple of hours at a bitingly cold Whitby Town FC - football as it should be - they prevailed 1-0 against Blyth Spartans and I downed two piping hot cups of Bovril - surrounded by 583 other hardy souls (£9 Adult Admission!). We ate and drank very well in Whitby - I suppose you could eat poorly if you work at it but that would be a poor choice. We didnt have time for the beautiful seafront cinema/theatre or even the Steam Train from Whitby or walking on the beautiful North Yorkshire moors - next time. Whitby isnt twee or overly gentrified but it is vibrant, historic, interesting and set beautifully - worth a few days of anybody time methinks - we will likely be back.

Spacious, beautifully decorated and really well equipped. When there are 11 staying great to have 2 living rooms so there is always the possibility of peace and quiet. Everything in the advert is exactly as described. The bedrooms are all lovely and the beds very comfortable. Brilliantly situated in a quiet area of Whitby but also very central for shopping and climbing the 199 steps to the Abbey. Booking, directions and information, and return of deposit was seamless - Anne was particularly helpful and also concerned when we had a family illness that could have prevented us getting there. Don't miss the experience if you are thinking of booking.

This really is a great house. Lovely rooms throughout, well decorated and furnished, with everything you need for a weekend escape. In a great spot on the north side of Whitby harbour on a quiet street, just a gentle stroll into Whitby or to the beach. Highly recommended.
