Location description from owner

The Yorkshire region

The North York Moors National Park covers over 550 square miles, with landscapes ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline. A haven for walkers, the area also boasts great cycling, gliding, riding and fishing, whilst North York Moors Railway is the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful scenery in a more relaxed setting.

Visit the market towns of Pickering or Thirsk; the latter famous for its links with the English country vet and author, James Herriot. Nearby, some of Yorkshire's best-loved villages including Thornton-le-Dale and Rosedale Abbey offer a taste of village life, as does Goathland or 'Aidensfield' as it was known in the ITV series 'Heartbeat'. Finally, stop off at Castle Howard and Duncombe Park, two of Britain's most historic stately homes situated in breathtaking parklands and gardens. The cliffs, sandy beaches and smugglers' caves of the Yorkshire coastline are a haven for beachcombers and coastal walkers.

Up the coast are the quaint fishing villages of Robin Hood's Bay and Staithes with their uniquely coloured boats. Finally, there's the historic Roman City of York, with its interactive Viking Centre, Roman walls, famous Minster, medieval streets and of course its shopping centre.

Central Whitby

Whitby has a fascinating and unique past It is an historic fishing port that encompasses not only fishing but shipbuilding, geology, Captain Cook, its abbey and of course Count Dracula.

Whitby offers a plethora of shops ranging from crafts, antiques, picture galleries, locally made jewellery and maritime memorabilia all to be found on its quaint cobbled streets. In addition to this its miles of sandy beaches, donkey rides, fishing trips from the harbour and steam railway make it the ideal place to stay for people of all ages.

Whitby itself is located on two banks of the River Esk, connected by an historic and fully operational swing bridge. The abbey, now run by English Heritage, is located on the south side of the town and overlooks both the old town and the sea.

Whitby has associations with two famous authors, Bram Stoker and Lewis Carroll. It is understood that Stoker based a large proportion of his Dracula novel here whilst staying in 1890s and Carroll, a regular visitor, also set some of his work and poems in here.

“Perfect for a break in Whitby”

Reviewed 23 Apr 2017

Have just returned from our second visit to this wonderful place. We love Whitby and this bungalow is the best we have stayed in. The owner replies to all enquiries really quickly, its right in the centre of town with parking included saving the hassle of trying to park your car in the busy town centre. The house has everything you would need for a holiday including dishwasher and washing machine. The back garden is nicely maintained and a sun trap. We will be back again.

Owner's reply: Thank you again for your custom and I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you return again soon.

“Perfect short break”

Reviewed 15 Apr 2017

We have just returned from a 3 night break & the bungalow was perfect. Immaculately clean & has everything you could possibly need, even if you want to cook for yourself. It's a 5 minute walk into the centre of Whitby so our car never moved off the driveway saving us the hassle of trying to get parked in a busy resort. It was so nice to have a whole house to ourselves & situated in a very quiet neighbourhood. Robert, the owner was in contact with us before & whilst we were there to ensure everything was ok & responded quickly to emails & texts. I would so recommend this property to my friends & family & anyone looking for a perfect hideaway to relax in & enjoy time in Whitby

Owner's reply: Thank you, I am pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope to visit again soon.

“Wow - A Real Home from Home”

Reviewed 7 Nov 2016

Have just returned from this lovely house and have really enjoyed it. It is maintained and decorated to a very high standard. The communication from the owner is excellent and he is incredibly helpful. Plenty of room in the house and nice to go away and have a living room which is comfortable. Can wait to go back and have already booked to return next April and hopefully in November. Thank you it was lovely.

“Perfect little hideaway”

Reviewed 16 Oct 2016

Great bungalow to stay in opposite Pannett Park. Fabulous view of the park from the conservatory. Little snicket up the road takes you to town by Bagdale Hall. Plenty of room and extremely quiet place to stay. I would go back in a flash.
