Les Lavandes is a modern villa with comfortable accommodation and panoramic south facing views of the local countryside and the Pyrenean mountain chain. The property is in a quiet rural lane on the edge of a medieval circulade village which has a restaurant and epicerie which are a 500m walk from the villa. The village is well situated for visiting the many tourist sites in the Aude with Carcassonne cité and Carcassonne airport both reached in less than 30 minutes.

The views from the house and garden are truly stunning and the peaceful setting ensures a relaxed stay. The villa shares a 3500m² plot with the owners house and has its own private gardens of approximately 350m² (approx 3760 sq ft) and parking for several cars. Enjoy cooking on the stone built barbecue and eating al fresco at the covered picnic table or sit on the south facing terrace enjoying views of pic de Bugarach and pic du Canigou. The accommodation includes a large open plan living area with a fully fitted kitchen, a shower room with a walk in shower and two bedrooms; one double and one twin both with generous hanging and storage space. In addition there is a separate utility room with a washing machine and space for outdoor clothing and bikes (not supplied).

Free linen and towels are included in the price, on arrival you will be greeted by the owners who will show you how everything works and help you settle in to make sure your holiday starts as soon as you arrive.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

Languedoc Roussillon region is the home of wines such as Minervois, Corbires, Cabardes, Roussillon & Fitou.

There are many Cathar castles to visit, taking in breathtaking countryside on route. There are underground caves & spectacular gorges to explore. The Canal du Midi offers relaxation, either a walk along the canal path or hiring a boat for a steady cruise under the shade of the plane trees.

The famous medieval fortified walled City of Carcassonne is easily reached by car in just 20 minutes from Cailhau, providing ample parking, restaurants and gift shops, as well as spectacular views of the Aude. There is plenty of history to explore in this old city. For those who enjoy a game of golf there is a hotel and golf course on the outskirts of Carcassonne.

Mediterranean beaches for the summer and the Pyrenees for winter skiing are only 2 hours away by car or train.

Carcassonne

Cailhau is a quiet medieval circulade village steeped in history and situated in an area of outstanding beauty, nestling amongst grapevines, olive groves and sunflower fields. There are walks and cycle routes locally where rare birds such as hoopoes, nightingales and bee-eaters can be spotted. Mobile suppliers of fruits and vegetables, meats and fish visit the village throughout the week. The village shop, café and bistro is located in the centre of the village. The local weekly market is just 10 minutes away and sells fresh local fruit and vegetables, along with traditional French produce.

Limoux town, which is famous for its sparkling wine known as Blanquette, is just 15 minutes by car and has some popular restaurants and shops. For those who like to sample fine wines, wine tasting is available at local family owned vineyards and river canoeing can be arranged for those more active.

A range of shops, cafes, restaurants and supermarkets in the surrounding towns and villages are within a ten minute drive, including sporting activities : canoeing, kayak, rafting, horse riding, walking.

“Comfortable holiday home with stunning view”

We stayed at this lovely private house for a week. It is well equipped with everything you need. The views and surroundings are stunning and we loved the quietness. The owners are very friendly and helpful if you need something.
