“51 Castillo Mar, Calete de Fuste”

Reviewed 17 Mar 2018

Our stay was from 26th January to 16th March Plus Points *Well kept complex *Lovely swimming pool area *51 Castillo Mar has a sea view *Near shops and restaurants *Linen changed on a weekly basis - fluffy towels and comfortable beds *Good iron *Very quiet kettle *Good washing machine Negative Points *Broken and chipped tiles throughout the apartment *Rusty bath *Broken sunbeds on upstairs patio *Curtains-just horrendous! *Too much baby paraphenalia in cupboards and wardrobe We stayed for 7 weeks and had an amazing holiday. This was our 5th stay in Calete de Fuste during the winter months but our first time at Castillo Mar. We would stay at this complex again but not at 51. Some of the other apartments that we saw are amazing after a complete renovation.

“Exactly as described”

I'll try not to repeat too much whats already been said in other reviews! Transfer -15mins by taxi cost 12-15 euros Apartment - as described , fine for a couple or small family. We are single Dad and teenage daughter so as dad I was relegated to the sofa bed! this was actually very comfortable though. Upstairs bedroom had two single beds. Kitchen area was fine for us although I have to confess we didn't actually cook anything just had toast and breakfast cereals and ate out the rest of the time. As described the tv can only play dvds and we found a shop on the front opposite the apartments (it advertises "English cards") that sells some second hand ones for 3-5 euros each . Only down sides to the apartment were no air-con which means the upstairs got quite warm (and I expect pretty hot in Summer) and there were a lot of cats about who seemed to favour the front of the apartment for using as a toilet. Mick and Pam very helpful, we had a couple of issues (nothing serious) which were sorted immediately. Quiet location yet very near shops and restaurants and some reviewers have said 20 minute walk to beach which is true if you go along the sea front but it's only a 5 minute walk if you turn right out of the apartments walk to the end of the road then bear left at the crossroads. There is a cashpoint at the end of the road. Pool area very nice, never had trouble getting sun beds (although quiet time of the year). Restaurants and shops all within a few minutes walk, like others have said Frado Rock is briliant (but not cheap) and even when we went if you wanted a table for more than two you had to queue most of the time after 8pm. The "Slow Boat" chinese was also great (we didn't try "slow boat 2" so can't comment on that) , the buffet was brilliant and incredible value (they even do discounts on a couple of nights) as well as loads of lovely cooked dishes they have a selection of seafood and meats that you can choose and they cook it for you which was fantastic. The only poor experience we had eating out was the Italian restaurant in the centre complex, can't recall the name but it's very prominent. My daughter's lasagne was cold and had to go back and while we were there a party of three only had two meals served to them and the waiter blamed them! Plenty of bars around, many showing football if that's important to you, not so to us and we found ourselves most evenings in the "Dog and Duck" which is across the road and to the left of the apartments. The beach is enormous with plenty of places to get food, drink, ice cream etc. and the rocky seafront before you get there can be quite beautiful and dramatic. We didn't hire a car although some people we met had and said they'd really enjoyed driving round the island. We did catch the bus to Puerta del Rosario just to have a look but in truth there wasn't really much there except a shopping centre. Oh nearly forgot wi-fi, there are many places which advertise free wi-fi but in our experience the signal was often very weak indeed. You can buy a wi-fi token from the Dog and Duck, 15 euros for the week from memory which worked but only when sitting in the pool area of the apartment.

Nice little rental...good value...shops & restaurants only minutes away. My daughter & I had a lovely relaxing week in the sun. Only 15mins from airport & our taxi was waiting for us as arranged (sun transfers) The lovely Pam met us with our keys Everything was perfect...absolutely no complaints.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your positive comments - we will ensure Pam is aware of the comments. It is also useful for us to be able to recommend transfer services that previous guests have used, as sometimes guests do ask us about this.

“Just perfect”

Duplex was totally utilitarian from amenities to location. Very spacious and airy. Quiet location but handy for the bars and restaurants. Nice to sit on the balcony and look out to sea night and day. Will visit again.

Owner's reply: We are pleased you were happy with the apartment and the location. Thank you very much for your comments taking the time to review our property. We look forward to hearing from you again in the future.

“When can I go again???”

Reviewed 19 Jun 2013

I was fortunate enough to stay in this duplex and location for 6 weeks. I knew I wanted to stay on this complex, and had the choice of quite a few apartments, but after chatting to Shelley on email, I was then certain who I wanted to book with. I had always stayed in hotels before, but due to the length of time the cost would have been far too much, which is why I looked at rentals, but then I was dubious about where my hard earned money would go. The professionalism I was shown from the start, was what convinced me this would be the place for me, and I can say I made a great choice. Not only that, but I was given a fabulous price due to the length of my stay. A lady called Pam greets you when you are there, she was 1st class, lovely to chat to, and I only had one issue whilst I was there, which was resolved in an hour!! The duplex itself has a sea view between two hotels, this was a definite extra, it really is lovely to wake up to, and makes you know you are on holiday. The other benefit is, it's on the front of the complex, so it was very quiet, I only had Neighbours for 4 days of my stay. The upstairs terrace has 2 sun loungers, and you get sun from when you wake up until around 3pm, and then you can always go to the pool, you can check how busy it is, just by looking out the bathroom window! Generally, there were few people there. The complex is very well looked after, there are maintenance people doing some sort of cleaning etc all day everyday, and they are friendly, as were everyone I spoke to, as you have a mix of residents and holiday makers. The apartment itself was exactly what I needed, very well equipped, and the only thing I needed to buy for me, was a cheese grater!! It was clean and functional, and for me really felt like home. If you are looking at similar properties, you will find extras in those like air con and tv etc, however think of this, it's breezy there and you get ceiling fans, I don't like evening heat, and I never felt like I needed a/c at any point. Also, why go away to watch TV? I actually enjoyed the break from it, and it gave me an excuse to go out if I really wanted to go watch things! If its Caleta you need a review for, just go, it's such a lovely, quiet, clean place, if you want clubs and night life, go to the north of the Island, if you want a break from the rat race of the UK, this is perfect. I can't wait to go back, and I 100% recommend this property, it's not a 5 star hotel, but I loved every minute I was there, and would have no hesitation in booking with Shelley again. Hope this helps!
