Temperatures remain highs of 35 C lows of 25 C all year around, with the best of the heat between October and March. The East of the Island is well known for having a drier climate, than the rest of the country, placing this villa in a great location.
The main place of interest close to this location, (other than the amazing Belle Mare beach) is Ile'aux Cerfs, which basically is an island with a naturally formed beach lagoon of outstanding beauty. This is a 10 minute drive, south of the villa near Trou d'Eau Douce (Google 'Ile Aux Cerfs')
Discounted trips to Ile Aux Cerf's can be arranged when booking.
Also available Deep Sea fishing trips can be booked. Mauritius is well known in the sport for Marlin, Tuna and other game fish.
Picnics and Water falls trips available on booking.
Also there are many beach-front 5 star hotels which also offer water-sports, restaurants and Golf. If you are a keen golfer 6 of the islands 14 main courses are all in the East with the nearest being just minutes drive away.
Belle Mare itself has a number of chic clothes outlets such as Hugo Boss, Lacoste and cashmere Wool shop.
There are several restaurants which offer great traditional Creole ,Chinese,Indian and seafood menus, plus other European dishes.

"Peaceful Villa, fully equipped"
We were warmly welcomed by Mr Roger and his son Eric. The villa itself is stunning to admire, fully equipped with everything you could possibly need during the stay. The villa was clean and spotless on arrival. Rooms are spacious. We had a lovely stay and would definitley come back again and reccommend to others. A perfect villa to relax with the family. Any queries that we had were promptly resolved by Mr Roger. Many thanks to Mr Eddie and Mr Roger for ensuring our stay was comfortable.

"It Captured Our Heart <3 <3 <3"
I am a frequent traveller and I frequently rent an appartment in Mauritius during my stay. This time my girlfriend & I spent 10 magical days at Villa Catherine. The place is superb, safe, calm and close to Belle Mare beach. I had a warm "Mauritian like" welcome from the guardian (Mr Roger: Thank you) which we appreciated a lot (never seen at other places we have rented in the past). My congratulations to Eddie and Roger for making the villa such a peaceful and desirable home like place. If you are traveling as a couple or as a family and you like peace, safely, proximity to the beach and beautiful weather of course, then Villa Catherine is just the place for you. We are already planning our next holiday and Villa catherine is where we will stay. It captured our heart last time we stayed there and we surely will stay there everytime we visit Mauritius. Truly a perfect holiday which was enlightened by an Amazing place, Warm Welcome and Warm Weather :) San & Han.

"Villa Catherine - a different holiday"
We stayed in the upper apartment of the property for just over 7 weeks (from the end of November through to first week of January 2013). The property was in a quiet & friendly area, but we would strongly recommend having a car to enable getting to beach, and local shopping centres which were 5 and 10 minutes away respectively. Whilst there are roof sun terraces which enable one to see to the sea 5km away as the crow flies, these terraces can only be accessed by the upper apartment, so if you wish to have the use of these make sure you request and book the upper floor. The upper apartment had 2 good sized balconies, which depending upon the time of day you could either enjoy the sun or shade, regrettably though these balconies and the furniture on them needed to be cleaned first of the mess from birds and Gekko's, although the Gekko's were helpful in keping the mosquitos down. Once cleaned these balaconies were good for haivng a relaxing breakfast each morning, and sitting and relaxing quietly in the shade in the afternoon. The apartment was described as having a fully fitted kitchen, unfortunately this did not include an oven, dishwasher, lemon squeezer, nor a simple wooden spoon for cooking! Ooh and if per chance you wish to enjoy a bottle of wine you need to be sure to bring your own corkscrew! Overall cleanlieness & finishing of the apartment when we entered was not as we would expect as Western Europeans. In the kitchen the hob and surrounding tiles were covered with fat residues, and there were dishes left in the draining rack to dry. We found that a number of the cuttlery items were rusted, presumably through not being dried, but just left out in the rack. One blind was missing in the kitchen and the other was broken and could not be raised to let light into the room. In the bathrooms and bedrooms there were equally problems of cleanlieness, the shower cabinet in the main bathroom was all smeared with the residue of old shower gel or hair shampoo/conditioner, the ensuite shower room there were loose wires visible, and the fan was broken. In the back bedroom the drawers and wardrobe were dirty inside with dust and hairs from previous occupants, and there was a handle missing from one of the drawers. The front bedroom was being used as a storage room, and its wardrobe and drawers were equally dirty and had to be cleaned before cloathes could be put in them. Water pressure was an intermittent problem which had to be contended with, when it dropped the toilets would keep running and not switch off, and the electric shower would not work if the pressure was too low! As the property had its own water storage tank and pump this should not have been a problem to resolve but during our stay despite raising it with the representative it was not resolved. With the temperate evenings it would have been nice to have been able to have kept the windows open, but due to a lack of fly nets on the windows to keep the "pests" out (mosquitos, cockroaches and gekkos) this was not possible. Also there were far too many Holes to the outside in the apartment - in the kitchen cupboards the hole here allowed cockroaches to enter, it was not nice for us to open the lower cupboard door for dishes to find 20+ live cockroaches running around! By stuffing these holes with paper and using some ByGone my wife quickly resolved the problem and we said" Gone" to the Cockroaches! - once we removed their carcasses! Equally in the bathrooms there were holes to the outside by the toilet on the floor level, which again to stop "Bug" entry we stuffed and had no problems thereafter! Some simple solutions to what are known problems in the warm climates can make it so much more enjoyable! A prime example would be having a bin for the rubbish to be placed in outside waiting for the weekly collection. This was not provided despite being asked for several times, until we were in our 5th week of staying. it was not nice seeing the rubbish from ripped plastic bags lying around in the property's walled area because animals had been at the bags. Production of the bins stopped this problem, but should have been there from day 1 as they are provided free by the council each year. Although there was a nice pool with the property, our use of it was curtailed when we realised that there was not the proper cleaning & chemical monitoring ongoing. At No stage did we observe the PH of the water being tested, but we did observe chemicals just being thrown into the pool, and relying upon the water circulation pump of the pool to mix it. Although it is advertised that there is an English speaking representative, he was not fluent in English, in fact his English was very limited, this made communications and the relationship difficult, as he became overly defensive when there were any problems. Speaking over people, particularly a female, in this case my wife, when they were trying to explain what the problem was seemed to be the normal thing for him. Apologising afterwards to my wife did not rectify the damage done by this behaviour for the enjoyment of her stay. In general the island could be very beautiful if only the residents would have some more respect for their surroundings. Rubbish is evident virtually everywhere you go, and having been there for 7 weeks we managed to cover virtually every corner of the island with our rental car. If you have the flexibility of a car, then it allows you to explore and find the non tourist beaches, but be aware they are crowded on weekends, and it is advisable to wait until the "clean up crews" have done their work on Monday before going to them during the week. The markets and road side stalls are an excellent way to get fresh fruit, but be warned as a European you are fair game to them! Haggle to get a reasonable price, and even then you probably are paying more than the locals!
Whilst there are a few comments within the review which are appropriate, we find certain remarks to be untrue and grossly exaggerated. The kitchen is fully equipped together with a full complement of crockery and cutlery, all of which is to European standard. All the rooms in the Villa including the kitchen have an electronic ultrasonic device which deals with any unwelcome bugs within the Villa. These devices are continuously switched on, thereby providing a "bug free" environment for guests to enjoy. Mauritius is, after all, a tropical island! Terms and Conditions categorically state that entry to the Villa must be made available either by prior arrangements with the guests or immediately in the event of an emergency. Unfortunately in this instance, for the whole 7 weeks period our representative/maintenance personnel were denied access to carry out any remedial works including the water pressure and rectifying any cleaning issues. The pool is regularly maintained, and the Ph testing is carried out twice weekly. Any maintenance to the swimming pool and Ph sampling/testing are carried out early morning or late evenings when the facility is unlikely to be in use. Also the guests in this instance, left the air conditioning units switched on continuously for their whole 7 week duration, showing little respect for the running costs. These guests still scored their stay at Villa Catherine 3 out of 5, despite their comments.

"A home away from home...."
We occupied the ground floor of Villa Catherine for ten days, a family of five - a couple and our three children. A very secure, smart, fully furniture apartment. The host was very helpful and we felt very much at home. The swimming pool and jacuzzi well maintained. Thank you for the splendid Mauritian hospitality Roger! And Eddie you are an excellent communicator. You indeed make a wonderful team. Jessica and family (Zimbabwe)

"Brilliant, private villa close to the best beaches in Mauritius"
The villa is above average in spec and size with its own pool and surrounded by a walled garden. Absolutely perfect if you want privacy. We were happy to swap days by the pool or on the multitude of balconies with days spent on the superb beaches of Belle Mare which were lieterally 5 minutes away. Shopping was easy with a choice of supermarkets in nearby Centro Flact. It was missing a couple of minor items but I'm assured that the owner has purchased them and we started a 'visitors book' so I hope that provides local information to help.
