From the owner

This house is an 18th century home made of stone. The interior is wood and plaster walls. The view is amazing and where you will be drawn to when inside. There is a walled in huge garden space and a large terrace. The upstairs views include a view of Jersey island on the Channel. You can see Carteret from the windows and can tell if the tide is up or down. Splendid location in town within walking distance to shopping, dining, and even to the beach. The inside is comfortable, a bit ancient at times and sometimes crumbly and dusty, but very charming and inviting. Most of the furnishings are over 150 years old having come from Paris where the previous owner (French actress Jeanne Provost, our grandmother) lived. The upstairs has five bedrooms with a long hall way. Downstairs there is a grand salon, a petit salon, dining room, and kitchen. There is also a garage where the extra bathroom is located: convenient for showering after the beach or for an extra shower, but it is tucked into a garage setting). We make no apologies for the house but do want someone who appreciates an older home with character and history. This is not a modern home! It is like stepping back in time to an older French home. The house has a great deal of history as it is over 300 years old. During WWII, it was occupied by the German army for a brief period. Our parents had their wedding celebration outside on the terrace at midnight with fireworks in 1939. When you are here, you will feel the history. But, it is the terrace and the view which will beckon you.

Owner's reply:
Thank you, Ruchi, for taking the time to review the house. We know that it is a bit ancient, but we hope that this is appealing to some who prefer authentic French homes. (I don't think you can get more authentic than this in some respects). Thank you again for staying with us. Chris
