Location description from owner

The East Anglia region

We have always lived in Suffolk and love this area, as soon as you turn off the A12 to travel the 5 miles along the road to the coast at Aldeburgh you switch into holiday mode.. Whoever you are, whatever you want to do, you'll be delighted to discover the wealth of magical places tucked away in our special part of Suffolk. Beautiful beaches, unspoilt countryside, traditional towns, historic sites and charming small towns it's easy to see why Suffolk is a holiday hotspot. Picture-postcard Southwold ( do try and combine with a visit to the renovated pier), Dunwich are all uniquely wonderful , nearby Walberswick is home to the annual British Open Crabbing Championship fun for all the family, and for quirkiness of a different kind you mustn't miss the ‘man made village’ of Thorpeness with it’s large but not deep boating lake, take out a rowing boat, a canoe or Kyak or sit on the bank with a fishing rod !Other cultural attractions include the Maltings Concert Hall at Snape, famous for its Benjamin Britten connections and venue for the annual Aldeburgh Festival. Suffolk is full of recreation sites to explore, from rivers to forests and from mills to meadows and coastal beaches.

Aldeburgh

A very fashionable destination for a special holiday, to just relax, sail go walking or cycling. Although the secret is out and Aldeburgh gets busier each year it remains largely the same as it has been for decades. In Summertime there are many local events such as the Aldeburgh carnival and Thorpeness Regatta but all year round there is an ambience and atmosphere ever present in this charming seaside town. Fishermen still sell their daily catch from huts on the beach, and will always be pleased to share a story with you when you visit them, be early for the catch of the day..The High Street boasts a number of award-winning restaurants and bistros, and you are literally only five minutes away....book early to get the tables and times you prefer, or call us and we will gladly attend to it for you. Famous Adnams beers in lovely pubs and Aldeburgh fish and chips are a must do !Our property overlooks the famous 16th century Moot Hall which served as the Council Chamber and prison and was also the focus for the town market, today it is home to a fascinating museum and has is an iconic Aldeburgh building, loved by visitors and residents alike. Another possible future icon is the Scallop by Maggie Hambling and made by local engineers Pegg and Sons, situated on the beach to the North which is controversial for the design and location, you are invited to make your own mind up when you visit. We have Snape 4 miles away and is best known as the venue for the Aldeburgh Festival and for other events throughout the year held in the Maltings Concert Hall. However, the pretty village, at the head of the tidal estuary, is a popular holiday venue in its own right and central for exploring the unique area of the Suffolk Heritage Coast - the tidal estuary and network of footpaths are one of the most interesting areas of Suffolk for exploring on foot. There is easy access and more to explore at Framlingham and Orford with their respective Castles. The burial treasures at the world famous archaeological Sutton Hoo, near Woodbridge, should not be missed also.Endless paths make Suffolk a good place to explore on foot or cycle, and the RSPB’s flagship Minsmere Nature Reserve is a must for wildlife lovers just 20 mins drive..Do come and see for yourselves and stay at our Gold star award winning property.

“Happy memories of a lovely holiday”

Reviewed 22 Jul 2014

A beautiful house and location. Awaiting us on arrival, was a comprehensive welcome box of food, along with a bottle of wine cooling in the fridge. The view from the kitchen/lounge windows (of the beach and seafront) was spectacular, a great way to have breakfast and start our day. Very well equipped and furnished with the added extra of Sky TV, the house met all our expectations. Local amenities in Aldeburgh were excellent, consisting of various restaurants, pubs and non-chain shops. A nice walk along the coastal path took us to the very pretty village of Thorpeness and a great pub/restaurant called the 'Dolphin'. All in all a lovely place to spend lazy days and acquire lovely memories.

Thank you for your kind comments and the positive review. We are very pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at The Aldeburgh Lookout. To hear we exceeded your expectations is a very pleasing response, thank you. Please do come back when you can, we are open all year ! Best Wishes, Bob and Lisa.
