All of Paris on view from this quiet and comfortable vacation rental.
My twenty-two year old son and I stayed here for a week in November. He used the sofa bed in the living room and said it was excellent. The bathroom is clean, and spacious. The kitchen is well-equipped, and the view while preparing meals is spectacular. I kept wishing for floor to ceiling windows!
The location is both a plus and a minus. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to the metro line which takes you straight to the heart of Parisian sightseeing. The time on the metro to the Louvre, for example, is about 20+ minutes. The actual neighborhood of La Defense was previously unknown to me; it is the designated business and high-rise location in Paris. The skyscrapers are quite striking, and beautiful in their way. It took a couple of days for us to really know the walk from the metro to the apartment. I found it easy to get confused at first, until we began using the Mercure Hotel as our landmark. The Mercure is essentially right next door, and super convenient when we needed to go to Charles de Gaulle airport. There's usually a cab waiting in front of the hotel, so if you are loaded with baggage, it's a great option. The cost of the ride to the airport was a little less expensive than staying in central Paris, about 35-40 euros. You don't get a sense at all of what Courbevoie was in the past. A few older buildings are still standing (on our route from the apartment to metro) but most have been torn down.
On the ground floor of the apartment building is a shopping area, with everything you need day to day. The boulangerie, Paul, the wine shop, Nicolas, a very large grocery, shoe repair, several restaurants including one Chinese/Vietnamese which we tried for take-out, clothing stores, bank, etc. are in the very same building.
If you are staying here for the first time, and do not know the area, do try to arrive during the day. Use the Mercure as your landmark. We were loaded with luggage from a two month stay including tennis tournaments, and arrived around 8:30-9 in the evening. Our TGV from Avignon was stopped for two hours on the tracks,so we were late getting to the apartment. Thank goodness for a cell-phone; even so, getting into the building was a hassle after traveling all day.
If you are looking for a very quiet (you can open the windows and it is still peaceful!), comfortable, and reasonably priced rental, this one is great. We had no problem at all with our deposit being returned, and our hosts were kind enough to let us stay later on the day of our departure than usual. …
