We just arrived home from a great family holiday in Normandy spent in this converted barn. Although the weather was not that great this place is ideally located for a day trips to explore Normandy. If you are looking for piece and quite family get together location this is the place to go. We traveled by car via the Euro tunnel from Central Bedfordshire and the journey took us approximately 7 hours door to door. My 3 year old son enjoyed the large grounds and all sorts of games and toys from the shed. There is also an Enchanted Village (small theme park) just a 30min drive away to keep the little people happy (opened during the weekends and school holidays only).
The barn is well equipped with everything in working order. The housekeepers were on call when we arrived to switch the heating on for us (remotely via internet). The whole place was pristinely clean. There was enough wood in the shed to have a fire in the fire place every evening if we wanted to. In the living room we found a cupboard packed with all sorts of board games which we all enjoyed playing in the evenings. The kitchen had all the expected appliances, crockery and tools to smoothly cater for 8 people. Perhaps plastic cups and plates for the outdoors (or children) would be a good addition in the future.
I would recommend the local bakery (in Barenton) which we visited several times. For small shopping the supermarket in Barenton (3 miles) is fine but if you looking to stock up (there are 2 fridges to store enough for 8 people) I would recommend Carrefour or Aldi in Mortain (10 miles away).
Going out for a meal is a bit of a mission. You really need to book in advance or find out what is open and when to avoid disappointment.
We will definitely return as we all throughly enjoyed our stay. I can imagine Christmas must be rather magical there but the outdoor space is also great entertaining space for summer barbecues (we had only one as the weather wasn't that kind to us). …
