Luxury very private villa large pool Coimbra Arganil Tabua sleeps 9 great views
Perfect!

If I could i would give extra stars! We stayed in this beautiful place for 2 weeks with two teenagers, 15 and 17. The house and surrounding gardens are amazing, no expense has been spared with the fixtures, fittings, furniture etc, and there is plenty to keep us entertained on those lazy days. We made full use of the games room, our pool skills have improved immensely and the outside kitchen had everything we needed and more. We cooked successfully in the pizza oven (thanks Lucy for making up some pizza dough for us and freezing it), we BBQed and sat outside many evenings drinking ice cold beer from the fridge. And when you're done with eating outside there is a dishwasher in the outside kitchen too, what's not to love about that! The Wifi, Xbox and Netflix kept the kids entertained, the pool area is gorgeous and very clean, comfy sun beds and umbrellas for shade if you need it. Excellent washing machine and laundry area, the owners really have thought of everything. If you arrive during the day the best surprise comes when the sun goes down, the garden comes alight with tasteful and pretty solar lights and on the clear nights you have a big sky full of stars all to yourself, as there is no light pollution. This place is very special and a lot of thought and care has been put into creating an idyllic holiday hideaway. The town of Arganil is a few minutes drive away, there is a Lidl and Intermarche open all days til 8, if you fancy a slightly bigger Lidl then the one at Tabua is very good (about 20 mins in the car). This not a tourist area, so expect very little English speakers and amazing value for money when eating and drinking out. It's authentic Portugal and a far cry from the crowded beaches. Some places we visited: Gois river beach. You can't beat fresh water swimming and the Portugese have made full use of the beautiful rivers that flow through the mountains. Take water shoes for the stony bottom and diving goggles, the water is really clear and you can swim with the fish. Avo river beach. This is a little further than Gois but still only 30 mins in the car and it's in a beautiful setting. There's a bigger swimming area than Gois and places deep enough for diving. We decided not to eat there although there is a river side cafe, instead we drove to Coja and had a late lunch in the main square, wonderful place to chill and people watch. Ciadud Rodrigo. This was a trip without the kids! Two hours drive and you are in Spain and at one of the best preserved battle sites from the Peninsular War. If you are not too interested in exploring every inch of the battlements as we did, it's still a beautiful small city to visit and explore easily in one day. Conimbriga Roman ruins. Again, a day best spent enjoyed without the kids. This is proper nerdy Roman stuff and well worth a visit. There is a lovely small museum and a cafe. Some of the ruins require some imagination and the mosaics are truly wonderful. Kayaking on the Mondego River with RockandRiver based near Tabua. This was a glorious day, 4 hours of kayaking along a secluded stretch of the river and the only noise was from the red kites flying overhead. The water is calm and Matt the owner provides map, waterproof bags for picnics and valuables and life jackets if you need them. The trip is at your own pace so there's time for swimming and picnicing and he meets you at the other end. If you want to lose yourself completely in nature then this trip is a must. Mira. This is a small coastal town/village about 1 hour 15 minutes drive away and something different for the kids. The beach is sandy and long and there are some shops and cafes selling the usual seaside toot, it still has a charm about it and fishing hoard can still be seen on the beach. Nazarre. This is a 2 hour drive and a much larger seaside town, the beach is massive and very crowded and reminded me of Blackpool or Hastings. The only reason we visited was for the Naturumm 4x4 jeep tour. Check out this company on trip advisor, the 5 star reviews are real, we had an amazing evening that we will never forget. Off-roading in the dark is something else!! Piodao Slate village about an hour drive away, very remote and the mountain drive is a little scary at time, beautiful village in an idyllic mountain setting. And in between all of this we chilled in the most amazing place possible. There is so much to see and do in the surrounding area if you don't want to laze by the pool every day. Fabulous stay in this beautiful villa set amid the fragrant eucalyptus and pine trees with Wonderful views. Geoff and Linda gave us a lovely warm welcome. The Villa was beautifully presented, clean and fully equipped. Lots to see and do for all the family from chilling by the pool with a good book or rowing down the river and fishing.
