“Quite place” we was 2 weeks there, the house is beautiful and very quite. Because of raining season came a bit more early than normal, it was 4 days no sun. The solar wasnt loading enough engery and at night the vans stopped because of no more energy. The beds are weak, but i heart , that they should be renewed. cook and Mangaer of the house is perfect and the food he prepaire is deliouse. All in all a good place. The french owners are nice. Just the distance to the beach isnt 100 meter. And the distance to Kilifi by Tuk tuk is apprx 25 minutes.
“Quiet location, amazing gardens and great support from the team.” Having visited The Gambia on a couple of prior occasions staying in the tourist area of Kololi, I was this time looking for a more out of the way but not completely remote place to stay. The location of the bungalow suited me perfectly with a car ride to Senagambia taking around 30 minutes.
There was an African shop a few short yards away from the property that stocked your everyday goods and food stuffs and a variety of vegetable stalls set up along the road leading from the highway to the door so as remote as it may have sometimes felt one was never stranded or without supplies.
The highway was six minutes away and from there you could hail a taxi easily enough but the guys that managed the bungalow were usually on hand to help out with lifts. Indeed, Remi met me at the airport and was an absolute pleasure to be around throughout my visit and took me on trips all over the place, including a memorable afternoon spent on The Gambian River where we managed to catch dinner for the night. Tanji fishing port and market was a short drive in the opposite and I bought dinner here a couple of times during my visit and I recommend it completely; it really is an experience and I loved it there.
It is often the people that make any occasion and I was in good hands with Remi and the team. Baby, who lived literally around the corner in her compound, would be round at the shortest of notice to clean and cook the fish we caught and some cook she is as well; the best meals I had during my trip Baby cooked. She was also on hand to clean for me and wash and iron clothes whenever I needed.
On the grounds, which consist of some truly beautiful tropical gardens, was a security man and his wife and they also cared for the trees and plants brilliantly. Remembering this is The Gambia and the electrics can go at any time, they were also on hand, sometimes rather late at night (read early in morning If I’d been out to Senagambia!) to turn the back up generator on that helped to supply the bungalow during the outages. Half way through my stay the generator packed up but the guys replaced this almost immediately with a brand new one.
I felt very safe throughout my stay and there were burglar grills fitted on all the windows. Neighbours always greeted you on every trip and I tended to allow fifteen minutes for every five minute trip just to stop and say hello to all the wonderful people in this amazingly friendly land.
I would definitely stay here again, without a doubt. In fact, the only reason I wouldn’t stay here on every trip would be if I specifically needed to stay in a different part of the country. The property and support team provide excellent value for money and I was given contact details for everyone a couple of days prior to my visit.
Communication with Greg during the enquiry and booking process was seamless and he never failed to respond to a question, and I had plenty, within a few hours. He called me on my first day to make sure I was happy with everything, which was a lovely touch. This really is a wonderful way to experience The Gambia for anyone wanting a change from the normal and a getaway from the usual pubs, clubs and the party strip.
