“A real Haven to escape to” The Penthouse apartment is beautiful, we really felt we had escaped from life, great location, short walk to anywhere but out the way enough for it to be peaceful. The view from the bed is beautiful and on the roof terrace we felt like royalty! Amazing large space to chill out all to yourselves and watch the sunset. The beaches around the island are really spectacular and empty!!! Really do recommend hiring a 4x4 and getting off the beaten track. The apartment is also full of lots of information that was really useful for us to make the best of our time there.

“Perfect holiday” Arrived in Sal Island Cape Verde not knowing what to expect. The place looks a bit baren upon arrival but when you get to Santa Maria resort and Villa Verde it is a gorgeous place very much like being in the Caribean. The accommodation was stunning, very spacious with excellent air conditioning and facilities. This is best apartment I have ever stayed in, decorated to a high standard with a lovely swimming pool and a pool bar that has just opened playing regae music to help you relax! Santa Maria is very chilled and the Cape Verdian way of life suited me "no stress" being their moto! It is only 3 euros taxi drive into Santa Maria or there is a shuttle bus that goes every 2 hours that cost 5 euros for the whole week. The beaches are gorgeous white sands and crystal blue sea - the island is quite windy though and the sea is often very choppy but the breeze keeps you cool in the hot sunshine. The people are very friendly and the pace of life very slow. You can see the fish being brought in from the harbour (knowing this may be what you end up being served that night). There are an abundance of restaurants and bars catering for all tastes, many of the restaurants are on the beach and serve the local fish of the day. We are two single girls and were slightly apprehensive about safety and whether there would be enough night life but we were pleasantly surprised that we felt completely safe and that there was such a wide choice of venues to eat and drink but also the live music bars that got everyone in the party mood and were a nice change from the usual UK bars that just play the same music. The best bar by far was Ocean Cafe that did excellent mojitos and had excellent music each night. We went on a catamaran trip that was organised from the beach (look out for a guy called Neilton who was very helpful and booked our trip for us). The trip was great fun although we didnt see any wildlife (you can see dolphins and turtles at certain times of the year). The crew were really good fun, playing music and involving everyone in the singing, with a few cool beers and then a dip in the sea when we stopped at a cove for a break. This made an excellent end to what I can only describe as a perfect holiday. Highly recommended.

Santiago is home to the island's capital and Maio has perfect untouched beaches. The islands are a fascinating mix of African and Portuguese culture, as shown in the work of Cesara Evora, the internationally know singer whose home these islands were.
