Awarded Trip Advisor Excellence certificates for 2017, 2018, 2019 & 2020 this apartment is located just a few minutes walk from many of Funchal's most popular "must see places".

You will be living in the real city not the hotel tourist zone located several miles away to the west of the city centre.

Madeira celebrated its 600th anniversary of its discovery in 2019 but has the modern facilities of a 21st century resort making this is the perfect place to stay and sample the delights of this magical island.

This recently converted luxury attic apartment has breathtaking views of Funchal city, the Harbour and out over the Atlantic towards the Desert Islands.

It is the perfect place for relaxing whilst enjoying the annual fireworks shows every Saturday in June and of course spectacular city wide display celebrating the New Year.

Although suspended since March 2020 the daily comings and goings of the many cruise ships which visited this spectacular island are anticipated to be returning this Autumn. The assorted little pleasure boats that sail in and out of the harbour have already started to be seen often 2 or 3 times a day.

Fully furnished for that perfect self catering holiday you can even pick and sample several different exotic fruits (depending upon season) from the owners courtyard garden below (accessed by your own private spiral staircase).

There is even a small secluded dining area in the courtyard garden below the apartment where you can enjoy the early afternoon sun, or if you prefer you can just sit and and relax in the cooling shelter of the trees & flowering tropical vines.

You can even bring down your cooked food & wine and dine alfresco in the evening (garden table & chairs are available).

The trees and vines also provide a welcome retreat on those late summer days when it sometimes just gets too hot to do anything other than relax with a good book or a cool drink.

Remember the solar UV levels in Madeira are the same in March as they are back in the UK in June!

Funchal's UV levels in mid summer reach extremes like 11 or 12, so bringing with you some sun lotion is highly recommended. Even in late Autumn or early spring some protection is advised if you have not been accustomed to the sun for several months.

The resident owners below will always give you a warm welcome and can provide you with lots of information, advice and help to make sure this is a holiday to remember.

English speaking owners are resident below to answer any day to day questions.The Courtyard garden is shared with the owners. Rubbish collection 3 times a week, simply leave at bottom of spiral staircase. Please ensure waste bins next to loo are used for all toilet paper due to small bore drains under house.m Please also note our Local Electricity supply is restricted to 30 amps, therefore a definite risk of power failure if all electrical appliances (radiators, kettle, washing machine, electric hobs, electric back up immersion heater to solar panel etc.) are all switched on at same time

Accessed through your own private gate then via a spiral staircase from the courtyard garden, this modern totally self contained luxury apartment is the perfect base for exploring Funchal.

Contemporary decor throughout, fully double glazed window / patio doors, remote control ceiling fans in bedroom and kitchen / breakfast room. Electric radiator panel fitted in bedroom, an additional mobile oil filled radiator is also available for those occasional chilly winter mornings & evenings (Funchal temperatures can fall to mid or low teens at night in the winter).

Flat screen TV in bedroom (120+ cable channels many in English). Wi-fi available throughout apartment with a hard wired fixed computer port & power sockets on terrace if required.

Apartment hot water is supplied via Eco friendly solar heating panels on roof.

The Courtyard garden is also available for your private use, and beach towels can also be provided upon request.

A variety of local cafes and small corner shops are located nearby and there is a large Continent supermarket with free parking just a short drive away. The new Dolce Vita shopping centre with an alternative supermarket is also only 10 mins walk away. You must also visit the Pico Castle which is literally just around the corner for even better views over the entire city.

If the weather is inclement you could take in one of the many museums and beautiful churches located within a 500m radius of your base, some of which even have attached parks & gardens. Several even serve tea, coffee, soft and alcoholic beverages plus light snacks.

If you want to dine out in style you have many places to choose from including the beautiful Quinta das Cruzes & Jardim da Largo restaurants both of which are within a few minutes walk of the house.

There is a local bus service just up road and the little Eco electric bus route runs from the bottom of the road. If you do not want to walk back up to the house (we are at an approximate elevation of 100m above the city seafront), there are taxi ranks throughout the city centre and a taxi ride to the front door costs on average 5 to 6 Euros.

On road parking is usually available nearby if you decide to hire a car and explore more of this beautiful island on your own.

Guided bus & taxi tours, both of the city and island, are also available in Funchal if you prefer to let someone else do the driving.

Depending upon your choice you will either be met at the airport or the property. The apartment is located on the top floor of our own home so I am usually available to answer questions or provide advice as & when required but of course leave this to you to ask. We provide our guests with a collection of information leaflets maps, bus timetables plus monthly cultural agendas and guide books (Levada walks etc.) to help you make your holiday as enjoyable as possible. This also saves you the weight of having to pack your own guide books unless of course you want to? I am also often be available to take you by car for short drives or even trips around the island should you want but of course this would be up to you to ask.

House rules

Whilst we do not allow smoking within the apartment we do allow guests to smoke on the open air terrace and in the courtyard garden, please ensure you use the ash trays provided. We have on a few occasions accommodated a very young child accompanied by its parents, we have a single inflatable mattress for this purpose but it can only be placed in the bedroom, no sleeping on the open air terrace is allowed due to vicinity of spiral staircase.

How do damage deposits work?
