Home description
This cottage is one of Daphnes villas and apartments which are found within the boundaries of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos in Greece, just above Porto Roma Beach on the Vassilikos peninsula. The villa is set in a large olive grove away from the road. A beautiful garden with lots of flowers emphasizes the over all atmosphere of peace and quiet.
The BBQ is a natural meeting point and the reception is under the big parasol. A hundred metres (or a 3 minute walk) down the road you will find Zakynthos' most relaxing little beach; Porto Roma. Within 100-300 metres from Daphnes villas and apartments, up the little road, there is a mini market, three taverns, one coffee bar, car rental and also a small hotel with a swimming pool open for all.
A path leads you through the olive groove to the long sandy shallow Gerakas beach (Turtle beach). The green hills of Vasilikos with beautiful macchia and pine forest are just above with easy patOur season starts in the middle of May and ends in October. The temperature in Zakynthos ranges between 20-35 degrees and the water temperature between 18-30 degrees. We, Maria and Dionysis Tsilimigras, started building Daphnes villas and apartments in 1986. Dionysis is from Athens and Maria is from Stockholm, Sweden.
In 1987 we had our first guests. The garden has grown a lot since then and there are a few more houses as well. We have found that running the business on our own without any travel agency between us and our guests is much better for everybody.
That means you have to find flight or ferry on your own to get to Zakynthos. We are happy to answer any questions you might have and to give advice and suggestions on travel companies. We hope that you will find this web site informative.
We are looking forward to hear from you! Maria and Dionysis

The Ionian Islands region
The Ionian Islands are located in the Ionian Sea, in the western part of Greece. The Ionian Sea is south of the Adriatic sea. The Ionian Islands are composed of Corfu, Lefkada, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Ithaca, Paxoi, Kythira and some others. These islands are known for their lush and green nature, beautiful long sandy beaches, stunning lagoons, their charming villages and their varied landscape. Visitors often call these islands the "Greek Tuscany". The Venetian rule during 400 years has left an architectural and other cultural resemblance to Italy.
Zakynthos / Vassilikos area
Zakynthos in Greece is also called Zante and is part of the Ionian Islands, on the Greek west coast. Zakynthos (Zante) has beautiful long sandy beaches with crystalclear water which attract the endangered specie of the giant sea turtle Caretta-Caretta (Loggerhead) which comes during summer nights to lay their eggs in the soft golden sand of the beaches. Zakynthos has some tourist resorts for mass tourism and nightlife but it is a large island and has a lot of still undiscovered parts where responsible and low-profile tourism is slowly developing. The National Marine Park with its museum in Vassilikos and the boat trips to see the giant sea turtle in its natural habitat is a wonderful experience. Zakynthos is also an island to discover on foot or by car, depending on season. There are many small villages and coves for splendid skin diving.
How to get there
Charter flight directly from your country to Zakynthos(Zante) is sometimes the easiest and cheapest way to get here. Check it out with your Local Travel Agent!
Regular flight from your country to Athens is another alternative. Then you take either domestic flight or bus to get from Athens to Zakynthos.
Ferry boat from Venice, Ancona or Brindisi in Italy to Patras is the alternative for you who travel either by car or train. It takes about 20 hours with the Superfast Ferries from Venice. Then there is a further hour drive by car or bus from Patras to Killini, from where the ferry boat takes you to Zakynthos town in 1 hour.
There are 4-6 ferry departures from Killini each day. We can reserve a place for your car in advance, which is recommended if you are travelling during high-season.
There are also direct ferries from Italy to Zakynthos, check with your travel agent. There are twice daily Olympic Airways flights from Athens to Zakynthos with a journey time of 45 minutes. The one-way ticket for adult costs about 90 Euro. Half the price for children 3-12 years old.
There is also a bus service from Athens which takes you to Killini with a journey time of 4 hours and a further hour by ferry boat to Zakynthos. Total cost for a one-way ticket is about 25 Euro( bus and ferry tickets). From St Nicholas (1 hour drive from Daphnes), at the north of Zakynthos, there is a twice daily ferry service to Keffalonia, our nearest neighbouring island.
From the airport you take a taxi to Daphnes Villas in Porto Roma. It is a 20 km drive, takes 25 minutes and costs 25 Euro(tips included). You can also rent a car and have it waiting for you at the airport. For any further information, please contact us!

Dear Maria and Dionysis, what a lovely time we had. Thank you! Daphnes is just such a perfect place to spend a holiday with your family. The gardens are beautiful and it is so quiet and peaceful. We desperately needed a break like that. The children loved it - the beaches and all the games we played, the late meals at the local taverna, and the playing of cards on the veranda until midnight. (Freddy and Alice now knows how to play Bridge.) Special thanks again for the meal at Nikos taverna (where we had our wedding party seven years ago!) Lots of love. Karin and Tom from London, England ****

We booked a holiday here last year from information we found on the internet, not sure what to expect. We were delighted with what we found: A warm welcome, beautiful surroundings, peace & quiet and comfort - the perfect holiday. We're back again this year, with lots of books and recipes for the bbq, looking forward to more of the same. Location: London, England ****
