A perfect hideaway

Casa Buras is a beautiful, well-designed home set high on a hill above one of the best beaches on Zakynthos. The house is beautifully decorated, has comfortable furnishings, well-equipped kitchen and lovely grounds with lots of hidden corners for sun-bathing and relaxing. You could stay here and hardly see another soul, or you can use it as base to explore this lovely island. The gorgeous local beach is a 10-15 minute walk away and is simple and unpretentious; the tavernas along the coast offer great choices and the coastline here on the north east of the island is stunning. Wonderful house with amazing views

The house is in a beautiful setting, in the scenic northern part of Zakynthos. It feels like, indeed is, a family home and the rooms are all comfortable and attractive. The best thing by far though is the views from the outside - we spent many happy hours on the patio with a meal and glass of wine enjoying the views over the Ionian, a view which it is impossible to tire of especially with the wonderful sunsets. The house will comfortably sleep up to 6 people, the best bedroom in my view was the upstairs one with an idyllic view over the sea, but they're all good! I wouldn't take toddlers or children younger than say, 5 years as there are a few drops around the garden walls, but it's fine for older kids (ours are aged between 6 and 14). Takes a little bit of finding but the owner's info was very good and we found the house with no problems. As previous guests have said, the track to the house is bumpy so it's best to not have a really expensive hire car. Access is fine if you drive slowly; local car hire firms are often cheaper and some have older cars which already have a few bumps & scrapes! I wouldn't want to try & locate the house in the dark though. In terms of location, northern Zakynthos is less touristy / built up than the south and we went to lots of great beaches and coves and enjoyed snorkelling in the clear water and exploring sea caves! The nearest village is 10 mins drive away and has a handful of small bars / eateries and craft shops and local stalls selling produce such as honey, olive oil etc. Best to do your generic food shopping in the busier areas nearer to Zakynthos town as there's more choice of supermarkets; the owners gave us lots of helpful info before our holiday on where these are, as well as a few tips on best beaches / coves and places to eat out.
