Home description
Shorter lets considered. Watercolour painting holidays available. This inviting house ,CasaFiori ,is located a few minutes from Lake Bolsena shoreline on the outskirts of Montefiascone. The house is in the Roman Lakes area, one of Italy's best kept secrets. Montefiascone is dominated by the Catheral dome. Casa Fiori enjoys access to many amenities including excellent places to eat, the local cusine is superb. There are several supermarkets nearby. The garden has fruit trees, vines and olives with two caves used in the past for wine making, a great place to take in the sun, with plenty of shade to relax. A pergola and pizza oven are perfect for alfresco dining. The house has beamed ceilings, combining original features with modern comfort. Steeped in history the area has hosted the Falerians, the Etruscans and the Romans, in fact the old Roman road Cassia is used as access to the house, Medeival and Renaissance history abound. A vibrant and intoxicating mix of old and new cultures,with plenty of activities for your holiday including watersports, riding, cycling and walking,the list is endless. The Lazio region
Half an hour to the east is unspoilt coast and the village of Montalto. Further south is Tarquinia with its Etruscan tombs and wall paintings. To the North is Orvieto with its fine wine and fabulous cathedral, further north but still within easy driving distance of the house is Assissi, home of St Francis and Sienna one of the most famous of the Renaissance towns. South along the road known as Cassia, we find a third lake, Lake Bracciano where Tom Cruise was married. A little further south on this road is Rome.
Viterbo / Montefiascone area
The location of the house, Montefiascone boasts Lake Bolsena and is an an area of oustanding natural beauty. Activities include swimming, waterskiing, cycling, sailing, walking and horse riding. The town holds a position on a hill with superb views over the beautiful volcanic lake. Attractions include the Duomo, a Rennaissance cathedral, and the Rocca, a fortress situated in the medieval quarter. The town produces a wine known as Est! Est! Est! and the winery organises guided tours. Many resturaunts in Montefiascone have lake views or are on the shore of the lake, lake fish are a local delicacy. Nearby Viterbo 8km from Casa Fiori, has a thermal Spa (Termi dei Papi), discos, bars and restaurants and has a beautiful historic town centre. It is possible to see Viterbo from the house and at night the lights of the town twinkle in the distance. Viterbo stretches up the sides of the Monte dei Cimini mountains, which are also visible from the house. The mountains are cloaked in a beech wood known as the "Faggetta", an equisite place of escape in the heat of the summer. In this area is to be found a second volcanic lake, Lago di Vico.
How to get there
Casa Fiori is: 1.5 hr from both of Romes airports Fumicino and Ciampino. The Eurostar terminates at Rome termini station, also 1..5 hr from Casa Fioiri. Civitavechia has a ferry port 1 hr away . Trains run to Orte from Termini, Orte is 20 mins away.

The garden at Casa Fiori ,described by a visitor last year as a little paradise,is full of interesting surprises. A flower garden gives way to an orchard of olive trees,vines,fig trees ,cherries apples,etc; shrubs and herbs perfume the air. A patch of natural meadow land, habitat for a multitude of flora and fauna adds another dimension, as does the vine covered pergola and pizza oven Caves,[Grotti] within the garden date back to prehistory when the present landscape was formed.This romantic setting is perfect for taking the sun , viewing the panoramic scene as far as the eye can see or just relaxing.
