The Sporades/Evia region

North east of Athens, Skopelos Island is in the Northern Sporades, north east of Athens. One of the beauties of the island is its seclusion; it remains unspoilt by mass tourism.
Skopelos is known as 'The green island' because of the abundance of trees: pine, fruit and olive groves. It offers plenty of opportunity for exploration by car, scooter or foot in the mountains and along the coastal paths and for visiting remote monasteries, hidden churches and ancient monuments.
Beautiful wild flowers and aromatic herbs abound during the months of May and June and provide lovely aromas during the hot summer and beautiful fruit in the Autumn.
The Skopelos Island / Glossa area
The closest town to the Villa is Glossa (a 20 minute walk via donkey track or 15 minute drive). Glossa is a gorgeous traditional Greek town with steep and narrow cobbled streets, few but intriguing shops, eateries which include one of Greece's finest restaurants, Agnanti. The town sits on the hillside above the fishing village of Loutraki which also has cafes, restaurants and shops.
In addition to the bustling town of Skopelos at the southern side of the Island there are several other lovely small coastal towns and harbours (Panormos, Agnontas, Loutraki to name but a few) with tavernas and beaches.
The house is a 10 minute drive from some of the Island's most remote, secluded and unfrequented beaches. The closest, and one of Skopelos' loveliest fine shingle beaches (Perivoliou), is perfect for swimming, snorkelling, lounging on the beach. Further away on the south side of the Island are white sandy beaches - you have plenty of choice.
