The Lazio region
A beautiful area with wonderful beaches and pristine mountain areas. The Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park distant only 50 minutes by car.
A wide range of activities from sailing to hillwalking to relaxation in the Spas.
Sightseeing to medieval towns, monasteries and fishing villages. Rome is distant only 90 minutes by train and Naples 45 minutes.
The cuisine is at the highest level ranging from fresh seafood to vegetarian meals.
Around Scauri places of interest range from the Spa in Suio (20 minutes by car); the Roman Archeological site (5 minutes by car); the medieval hilltown of Minturno (4 minutes); the Regional Park of Mount Aurunci, one of the biggest in Lazio region and the one claimed to have the highest mountain range closest to the sea (as high as 1535 m), 10 minutes by car; the beauty of Gaeta, the largest city of the area that gives name to the Gulf (15 minutes); the magic of Sperlonga, the white town above the sea (25 minutes); the world famous abbey of Monte Cassino (30 minutes); the World Heritage Site Reggia (royal palace of) di Caserta (30 min.)
These are the places in my mind at the moment. At your arrival you will find brochures about the area so to chose your daily trips to the places described or moving more far to the Isole Ponziane (islands at 1 hour by jetfoil), Naples (50 minutes by train), Rome (1h 40’ by train), Abruzzo National Park (1 hour by car) and so forth.
Direct Trains to POMPEI 1h40' journy and just € 6 ticket !
Scauri / Mount of Scauri Regional Park area
Seaside town sourranded by the mountains of the Aurunci Regional Park (highest peak 1535 m high). In Scauri the most appreciated thing by tourists is the sea side, with the 5 kms promenade within two hills. I found a special place the Gianola and Mount of Scauri Regional Park: I have worked there as a ranger and still as a tourist every time I could find it a great place to energize, relax, enjoy wilderness and... swim in the sea.
International Folk festivals. Beer festival. Traditional feasts. Funfair.
Concerts and plays at Roman teathre.
Sailing courses in Scauri. Scuba diving nearby.
LOCAL 'WINTER' AVERAGE TEMPERATURE 14.8 DEGREES (CELSIUS) !!!
How to get there
Fly to Rome or Naples, then train to Scauri-Minturno then taxi to 42 via Monte d'Oro; also bus to Chiesa dell'Immacolata and 5 minutes walking. Free pick-up service at the train station.
By Train: From Rome take the train to Scauri-Minturno, or the train to Naples that stops in Scauri-Minturno. The journey lasts about 1h30'. From Naples take the train to Scauri-Minturno, or the train to Roma that stops in Scauri-Minturno. The journey lasts about 45'. There are also fast Inter City (IC) trains (more expensive) that stops to the closer town of Formia.

We had a wonderful stay at your villa!! Gennaro was a most gracious host. We would definitely stay here again!! Thank you very much!! Nichola and Garrett, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. March 2005
We had a wonderful time at this house. It felt like we were part of Italy. Everyone around was lovely. Gallagher family, Northern Ireland. July 2005
Property is in a good situation as could walk into town, to park and beach easily. Scauri is in a good position: we visited Ponza, mountains, villages and towns as well as having good times at Mary's Rock beach. Lix and family, England. October 2005
Clean, tidy and charming. McGregor family, Scotland. April 2006
We liked the wild garden and the cosy comfortable atmosphere of the house. We very much enjoyed our stay and we would happily recommend it to our friends. David and Margaret, England. May 2006
Peaceful, well stocked, friendly neighbours, very Italian area. We've had a lovely week in a charming house. Sellor family, England. June 2006
Very Italian and full of character. The accommodation was 100% and the greeting was excellent. Maffin family, England, August 2007
We've had a wonderful time here - the countryside is beautiful with the mountains and the sea, and so much history. All the ancient Roman ruins are fascinating, as is the natural beauty. Christopher and Mary, Boston, Usa, October 2007
Beautiful location and beautiful people but be careful you may eat too much! John & Isabel, England, Christmas 2007
