About the home
The apartment is in a local type house, indipendent, with a large garden and a spacious veranda / outdoor dining area.
Casa Filomena is an accommodation with all comforts, fully furnished.
The rooms are well organised with nice furnitures.
Matresses are comfortable and Kitchen is full of utensils.
The house is in a very quiet area, close to Pubs and Restaurant. It is a hilly typical quarter with great views and sea and hills breeze.
From the house and especially the garden the overview of town, hills and sea is really nice.
The garden is hedged with wild and rare plants and trees. Roses and flowers match the blue of the sky in a great picture. May and October are superb time for this!

The Lazio region
A beautiful area with wonderful beaches and pristine mountain areas. The Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park distant only 50 minutes by car.
A wide range of activities from sailing to hillwalking to relaxation in the Spas.
Sightseeing to medieval towns, monasteries and fishing villages. Rome is distant only 90 minutes by train and Naples 45 minutes.
The cuisine is at the highest level ranging from fresh seafood to vegetarian meals.
Around Scauri places of interest range from the Spa in Suio (20 minutes by car); the Roman Archeological site (5 minutes by car); the medieval hilltown of Minturno (4 minutes); the Regional Park of Mount Aurunci, one of the biggest in Lazio region and the one claimed to have the highest mountain range closest to the sea (as high as 1535 m), 10 minutes by car; the beauty of Gaeta, the largest city of the area that gives name to the Gulf (15 minutes); the magic of Sperlonga, the white town above the sea (25 minutes); the world famous abbey of Monte Cassino (30 minutes); the World Heritage Site Reggia (royal palace of) di Caserta (30 min.)
These are the places in my mind at the moment. At your arrival you will find brochures about the area so to chose your daily trips to the places described or moving more far to the Isole Ponziane (islands at 1 hour by jetfoil), Naples (50 minutes by train), Rome (1h 40’ by train), Abruzzo National Park (1 hour by car) and so forth.

The Scauri / Mount of Scauri Regional Park area
Seaside town sourranded by the mountains of the Aurunci Regional Park (highest peak 1535 m high).
In Scauri the most appreciated thing by tourists is the sea side, with the 5 kms promenade within two hills. I found a special place the Gianola and Mount of Scauri Regional Park: I have worked there as a ranger and still as a tourist every time I could find it a great place to energize, relax, enjoy wilderness and... swim in the sea.
International Folk festivals. Beer festival. Traditional feasts. Funfair.
Concerts and plays at Roman teathre.
Sailing courses in Scauri. Scuba diving nearby.
LOCAL 'WINTER' AVERAGE TEMPERATURE 14.8 DEGREES (CELSIUS) !!!

Casa Filomena has everything you need for a pleasant stay in Scauri. There's plenty of room, air conditioning/heating and a very nice rustic garden to enjoy. There's a beautiful cove and beach a very pleasant short walk away and on the way to it there is a very nice bar/restaurant whilst at the beach itself there's another bar - which is just what you need on a hot day! The centre of Scauri is about a twenty minute walk from the house and the railway station is about thirty minutes walk - there are local buses, but finding information about which route goes where and when they leave is not easy, but if you can figure out the buses, it will save your legs! There are bus stops about five or ten minutes walk away. You can also get (Cotral) buses to other towns in the area including Gaeta and Formia. Although there is a taxi rank on the main street - Via Appia - we never saw a taxi. Fortunately, there is a supermarket about ten minutes walk from the house. If you are driving then distance is not a problem and the house does have a parking area. The only real down-side for us were some dogs which would bark at all times day and night - maybe because they were new and hadn't settled in, hopefully, they will have quietened down now. This was our second stay in Scauri. We stopped at Gennaro's other property (La vecchia Legnaia) last time and we were going to stop there again, but some alterations were being done so Gennaro offered Casa Filomena to us, which we gladly accepted. Scauri is an excellent base for visiting places in Lazio and Campagna. It's easy and cheap to get to Rome, Naples, Pompei and Herculaneum by train and from Formia you can get a ferry to the island of Ponza - highly recomended. We went from Formia and stayed the night on Ponza, returning the next day via Terracina. Scauri itself has plenty of shops, bars and nice beaches. But if you're staying out of season, some bars etc. on the sea front may not be open; the same can be said for the tourist information office which we found open once - the day before we left for home! We will probably be back to Scauri next year and we will rent from Gennaro again. We know we'll be made welcome as will anyone else who meets the Ripa family.

Although difficult to find due to the lack of street names, the house was well equipped and comfortable. Being that it was an uphill climb from the parking space and there were several steps up and... more
thank you very much for your review.
I am sorry for the trouble but:
Directions - In town they were changing the street names.. It should be more clear in future. Anyway I am... more

We had great time at Casa Filomena, we spent ages chilling out in the garden. Within 10 minutes of a nice walk we reached the beach daily, the water was good for swimming till the end of our stay in October!
We reached easily the house by train and used public transports to visit Gaeta, Sperlonga, Caserta, Naples, Pompei. we took the car to go trekking on the nearby mountains (easier option than public transport): the sea view was great from 1500 metres high!
