Casa Samuel, our poolside village home has wonderful views over the mountains from our secluded terrace and first floor balcony. We are located within a small private community, a few minutes stroll from the main square in Montejaque - a traditional Spanish village, with a church, picturesque narrow winding streets, tapas bars and local shops. We are just fifteen minutes from Ronda with its spectacular gorge and only a few minutes away from the unique Pileta caves with their prehistoric paintings.
Casa Samuel is ideal for couples or families - we have a travel cot available. Montejaque is a particularly friendly village. Many of the spectacular mountain walks can be started from the village.
Our home is designed in typical rustic Andalucian style, with exposed wood beams and old-style pine furniture. The separate fitted kitchen is well equipped with everything you might need. The sitting room has a wood burning stove for cosy winter evenings and there are also radiators for heating.
We have the advantage of two bathrooms (the ground floor bathroom has a separate shower) - this is particularly useful when four people are staying and when in and out of the pool! Casa Samuel is large enough for four adults to 'spread out' without getting under each others feet! Both bedrooms are a generous size with ample cupboard and drawer space. You can also park outside your own front door, which is a particular advantage as many of the properties in the village do not have vehicle access.
Montejaque is a typical Andalucian 'white village' with traditional Moorish-style architecture and whitewashed cottages. It is built on a rocky hillside above a fertile green valley or vineyards and olive groves. Horse riding and bicycle hire can be organised locally and maps are available for walking and for scenic car routes, taking in the area's wonderful scenery, 'pueblo blancos' and places of interest.

The Andalucia region
Montejaque nestles in the heart of the Grazalema Natural Park famed for its walking, bird watching and magnificent scenery. San Pedro beach is less than an hour away and the unspoilt beaches of Conil and El Palmar on the Costa de le Luz are under two hours away. Montejaque is perfect for those who would enjoy the peace and charm of this old world Spanish village. Many picturesque 'pueblo blancos' are a short drive away, each with their own individual character, and there are many sites of historical interest worth visiting. Walking is one of the most popular activities - there are numerous tracks starting from Montejaque itself and details of walking routes are available. Many rare birds are seen in the area and in the Spring the countryside is covered with a wonderful display of wild flowers.
For the more active there is no shortage of sporting activities in the area, including rock climbing, caving, canoeing, bicycling, horse riding, etc. There is a Caving and Pot-holing Orientation Centre/Museum in the village. The Cueva del Gato (Cat Caves) are a few minutes drive away. The cave is fronted by a lagoon and is popular for bathing.
Montejaque is a thriving community faithful to the traditions of the past - local festivals are held at various times throughout the year.

Ronda is our nearest white town and a delight. It is only fifteen minutes away - there is a regular bus service from Montejaque. Its main features are the dramatic gorge which splits the town and the bridge which spans it. There is much to see in Ronda - interesting museums, the Mondragon Palace and gardens, Arab Baths and so much more - not enough space to list it all here! It is worth spending time wandering around the old part to soak up its atmosphere with its narrow streets, lovely parks, wonderful architecture and, of course, the spectacular views! You will find an assortment of restaurants of every type in Ronda. Acinipo, the ancient site of old Ronda, is also worth seeing.
Other white villages are a short drive away and have their own individual character. They are all worth a visit - Grazalema, Zahara de le Sierra with its castle perched on a rock, Setenil where the houses are caves cut into the rock, Cortes de la Frontera, Olvera with its spectacular Moorish castle and Church, Benalauria, Benaocaz has Roman remains, Villaluenga del Rosario has a bull ring hacked out of the rock, and many more!
Arcos de la Frontera is about an hour away - built on top of a cliff with spectacular views and a lovely plaza. Seville and Cadiz are less than two hours away. You could also take a slightly longer trip to Cordoba, Granada and Jerez.
