The Plovdiv Province region
Plovdiv region is located in the south central part of Bulgaria. It spreads on the so called Thracian valley and on the outskirts of the Rhodope mountains. Its wide relief and climate diversity gives the opportunity to potential holiday makers to do the best of their stay here.
Because of the four seasons we have you could either visit and enjoy the nearest ski resorts(Pamporovo, Chepelare) during snowy winters or alternatively you could go on a mountain trip during the mild spring and autumn or our often very hot summer seasons.Every way you take gets you to different unforgettable places- Batak and Dospat dams for fishing and sunbathing, the unique eneolithic recently discovered stone cities (Belentash,Tatul and Perpericon) and not to forget the thermal bath and spa resorts of Narechen and Velingrad (in the mountains) and Banja and Hissar up north of the city
Plovdiv - the second largest city of Bulgaria is located in the Thracian valley upon seven hills and alongside the banks of Maritza river. Its history leads about 8 000 years back and together with Damascus in Syria are said in UNESCO reports to be the two oldest live cities in the world. At present Plovdiv is the shinning example of how modern times and people can get together with their long and impressive history in a perfect harmony.
Ever since it has been created Plovdiv had different names.Amongst them Philipopolis is the most famous, which means "the town of king Philip", the father of Alexander the Great. The old town of Plovdiv reserve is regarded as the architectural, archaeological and cultural jewel of Bulgaria. Every step you make takes you to numerous interesting spots, such as ancient fortifications, stadiums, amphitheatres, museums, mosaics, art galleries, narrow cobble stoned streets, magnificent renaissance architecture, picturesque bistros and restaurants, shops, etc., most of which are actively involved in the cultural and social life of the town.
This is why the logo of this vibrant city is " Plovdiv-ancient and eternal"

"A traditional house in the centre of the old town. "
We really enjoyed our stay at Philipopolis House and despite temperatures falling well below freezing outside we remained warm and cozy inside. The shower was powerful and there was always lots of hot water. One night we visited a local restaurant recommended by Charley ( a good variety of dishes and yummy pizza) but most of the time we were happy to stay in and self cater. The wifi was reliable with a good signal throughout the house. Although the cold weather meant that we didn't use the outside areas I'm sure the large terrace and garden are lovely in the warmer months. Our stay was enhanced by the warm welcome given to us by Charley. He was an excellent host full of useful information and local knowledge. He was even kind enough to collect us from the bus station and help us with our bags - thank you Charley.

"We enjoyed the house and its surroundings"
Its a spacious and well equipped house on the foot of the hill of the old town. We had the whole house for ourselves. We didnot feel we were in a big city and enjoyed the privacy and felt safe. We bought some cutting knifes, beerglasses and a small pan to please ourselves even more. Shops, restaurants and touristic sights are on walking distance. We rented a car to see the lovely hills and surroundings of Plovdiv and rented a parkingplace at the hotel Seven Hills, few minutes walking distance, so we could easily parc the car. Youre legs must be in good shape to climb stairs and walk the steep roads. We were also happy with the wifi connection so we could stay in contact with our homecountry Holland ( the Netherlands) with our laptop. It was quiet, we slept well. The owner was friendly, helpfull and a personal tourgide for one day. We loved his company.
Hi Wietske and Jack, Thank you so much for the positive feedback!!!Take care!!! Me and Vanja are wishing you well!!! P.S. Wietske, soon I'll write to you on Facebook

"A lovely house in Plovdiv"
We have stayed at Philipopolis House twice. We enjoyed our stay so much the first time we went again the following year. There was loads of room for just two of us so we spread ourselves out. The house has a private courtyard with bunches of grapes hanging down. The owner Charlie met us at Sofia airport and dropped at the door of his lovely house and introduced us to his wife. We would definitely recommend the property but hope it doesn't get too booked up as we would love to go again !
Thank you Anne for the beautifull words!!! P.S.The grapes are growing .Would be lovely to meet again!!!
