The Canary Islands region

Tenerife, a Spanish island, is the largest of the seven Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa. The island hosts in its capital the architectural symbol of the Canary Islands, the modern Auditorio de Tenerife which is also one of the main buildings of Spanish architecture. Tenerife is the only Spanish island that has two airports and two ports (the others have only one port and one airport each), which makes Tenerife the most interconnected in Spain.

Teide National Park

The national park of "las Cañadas del Teide" in the volcano mountain that occupies the centre part of Tenerife has been a protected area since 1954. Here you will find some of the most spectacular landscapes of the world, including an enormous volcanic crater with a circumference of 30 miles (48km), out of which rises the highest peak in Spain, Mount Teide. In contrast to the coastal regions of Tenerife, winter in the park, which lies at about 6,562ft (2,000m) above sea level, brings snowfall and strong winds, while in summer temperatures can soar to above 40ºC. A cable car carries visitors to the summit, but many prefer to hike the route to experience the flora and fauna, including rare specimens like the violet of the Teide, the Tajinastes, and the many varieties of lizards and birds.

Pirámides de Güímar

On the eastern coast of Tenerife, south of Santa Cruz, stand six mysterious step pyramids whose origins are still unknown to archaeologists. The pyramids were initially thought to be just remains of agricultural stone terraces, or random piles of stone cleared from fields by early Spanish settlers. However Thor Heyerdahl, the Norwegian anthropologist who lived in Guimar until his death in 2002, thought differently. His research indicated that the pyramids were constructed on similar principles to those in Mexico, Peru and ancient Mesopotamia. The pyramids are now enclosed in an Ethnographic Park; the site includes a museum, life-size replica of Heyerdahl's reed ship Kontiki, a coffee shop and souvenir shop.

Masca

For scenery a visit to the northwest tip of the island of Tenerife, around the picturesque village of Masca, is hard to beat. The village is set in the Teno Mountains, clinging to the slopes of a deep green ravine beside a narrow road full of alarming hairpin bends. Until recently Masca was off the beaten track and not accessible by road. The zig-zag drive from Santiago del Teide has now opened up the village and its amazing setting, reputed to have once been a pirate’s hideaway. Hikers have popularised a two-hour walk from the village through a gully to the sea at the base of the majestic cliffs of Los Gigantes.

Garachico

Garachico has around 6,000 inhabitants - along with Buenavista and Los Silos forms the 'Low Island'. It is a quiet historical town which was in fact the island’s most important port until it was destroyed in 1706 by a volcanic eruption. There are several historical monuments - the Saint Michael Castle, the Churches of Santa Ana, Santo Domingo and Our Lady of the Angels. The whole village is practically a living museum. The popular 'romeria' (country festival) of San Roque has been declared of national tourist interest. Garachico is also well known as a 'craft' centre and Craft Fairs are frequently held around.

Restaurant Bianco (Italian)

Amongst the most outstanding establishments in Safari centre, here brushstrokes of elegance dominate. The success of this "ristorante & Lounge Bar" is justified with weighty arguments: on one point two refined proprietors coinciding (admirable PRs) cooks who keep up their skills when the rhythmn accelerates, vocational waiting staff, a trio of internationally awarded cocktailers.

The decor is pleasantly Eastern in theme, and the building houses a cafe, restaurant and cocktail bar.

Excellant food mediterranian style with excellant evening cabaret acts , many famous people have dined here and the prices are resonable. Highly Recommended

Kong Tsha (Chinese)

For many years, this has been outstanding amongst the cloud of restaurants in the South, which makes selection difficult. This is one of the few where you can be sure that optimum products are used, authentic cooking with perfect Chinese-Eastern seasonings. Their barbecued spare ribs are frequently mentioned and are in very hgih demand. Totally remodeled in 2006 with a great deal of elegance, they have given it an up to date Oriental aspect with the major emphasis on minimalism. Inside (they also posess an agreeable terrace in Santiago III) they continue to conserve the enormous windows allowing you to contemplate on the spacious atmosphere of the kitchen, where many cooks are occupied preparing dozens of dishes with fresh prime materials in view of everyone. We were curious to try some 'Dinsun' the Chinese equivalents to Spanish tapas, at reduced prices, very good whilst waiting for the ribs, duck, chicken or pork.

Parque Santiago III

El Rodeo

If you're a meat fiend, drop what you're doing and head to El Rodeo as fast as you can. Meat is delivered on swords, salad by the dustbin lid-ful (just joking). When you've had enough, you show the waiter the red card provided. When you just want to keep stuffing your face with lamb, steak, chicken, pork, warthog, buffalo and every other kind of meat you can think of, just keep the green card showing. It's a novel experience, and one that works. I defy you to leave this restaurant feeling undernourished.

"Ground floor apartment facing the pool"

We stayed in B12 Tenerife Royal Gardens for 3 weeks from mid Feb to the first week in March this year...2 bed/2 shower rooms , well placed , very clean, good condition and well equipped, full oven plus microwave, fridge with small freezer , washing machine, 3 flat screens ,sat Tv , wifi from the terrace ,modern furniture and decor ..would recommend this apartment , ..perfect for 2/4 people , (too cosy for 6 ..sofa bed) outside pool and gardens well kept , normal rush at 10am for a sun bed

"clean and compact"

we had one week in apartment. has been done out well everything was new but found bedrooms very dark needs more lighting. royal gardens very nice complex we moved to one bed B11 for next 2weeks

"Excellent"

Just returned from holiday with friends,the apartment was first class with everything clean and new.It was very well equipped and having two bathrooms/showers was a big plus.The apartment is in a great coplex close to shops restaurants etc so need for taxis.I would recommend and look forward to our next visit.

"excellent location, spotlessly clean, well equipped"

Although quite compact the apartment was well equipped with two shower rooms, kitchen equipment and washing machine. Excellent location near the beach. The pool area was cleaned daily and well maintained.

"Compact apartment, spotless, great location!"

We had a fantastic holiday staying in this apartment. The apartment was beautifully decorated and spotless, and the complex was well maintained too. Very child friendly complex and pool (we have a 2 year old and a 4 year old). Great location - 1 min from beach and local restaurants. Cannot think of anything negative about this rental, however it would have been helpful if the owner supplied some plastic cups, plates etc. for the children and to eat outside on the terrace. Would definitely recommend this apartment and will certainly be using it again. Thank you!

"Spotlessly clean in lovely quiet position"

Two of us stayed in this ground floor apartment for a week in February during poor weather but the apartment was spotlessly clean and clearly had been recently refurbished. Everything seemed to be new. A lovely terrace gets sun in the afternoon and evening and overlooks the pool but is still quite private because of the layout of walls and trees. Inside the 2 bedrooms are not large, but perfectly adequate, and the 2 bathrooms ( 1 en-suite) are nicely presented. For 2 people there is lots of space of course and 4 would be fine. The fact that there are only double beds may prove problematic for some families or other group dynamics. The natural light for the second bedroom is borrowed light via glass tiles to the living/kitchen area. The air conditioning and ceiling fans would be a big plus in hot weather and an integral safe in one bedroom is a thoughtful touch. TVs in each room. The decor looked a bit overpowering in the photos but it's fine when you're there. The complex was very well looked after and attractive. One communal terrace has sea views and we noticed a pool attendant when the sun came out. The pool is not heated but cleaned each morning. Usual towels on sunbeds all day ( why don't places ban this!). Beaches are only 50 metres away from the front door. Arrival and departure arrangements were both smooth as the owner lives on the complex, which could be handy if there are any problems.

"Luxury 5* +++++++ apartment, perfect location."

Stayed for two weeks and did not want to leave! Zivile has decorated the apartment to a very high standard, real luxury. It has everything and more that you would require, fully fitted kitchen, 3 plasma TV’s (one in each bedroom & one in the main living area..plenty of English channels ITV, BBC's, C4, Sky news etc...) DVD player, two fabulous showers, an outside area with table & chairs. The apartment is on the ground floor so just a few steps to the pool. We were surprised at how quiet it was in the apartment, couldn't hear anything from outside which is a bonus if you've had a late night and don't want to be woken early by pool goers! Plenty of sun loungers around the pool, the pool area is kept immaculate. The location is perfect, everything at your doorstep...2 mins walk to the beach, plenty of shops, restaurants & bars. McGuinesses pub is at the entrance to the apartment block which has live music every night and always a good atmosphere..perfect for all ages! Another good bar is Magic, only 2mins walk from the apartment.. great music and sophisticated ambiance. Veronicas strip is about 15/20mins walk (€3.50 in a cab) if it's a crazy night you’re looking for..plenty of bars & two nightclubs open until 7am, loads of drink promotions. **Tip: When in Veronicas be very cautious about leaving your handbag out of your sight for even 5 seconds..my recommendation would be don't even take one with you if at all possible, or if a must don't take it off your person. There’s a shop right outside the apartment block under McGuinesses bar, perfect if you need to pick up bottles of water etc.. but if it’s an actual supermarket you are looking for then there’s one 5mins walk away that stocks everything you need for a two week stay. Overall, a great holiday made all the more special by having a stunning apartment. Zivile was very helpful, she was at the apartment when we arrived and came before we left to return our security deposit. Couldn't recommend more highly … 5* +++++++ can't wait for a return visit!
