The living area is air-conditioned and has a fully fitted well equipped open plan kitchen, with a single arm chair, a double sofa bed and a television with a built in DVD player and a small collection of DVDs and games to entertain any children if you want a quite night on the balcony with a glass of wine (or two).

The property has all the amenities you would expect to find in a well equipped apartment and for the 2014 season has been upgraded to include new linen and pillows (there are a range of pillows from soft to firm), bath sheets, hand towels and beach towels (so you won't have to waste space in our luggage) and kitchen equipment from John Lewis and Marks & Spencer, including a set of Joseph Joseph kitchen knives.

The outdoor spaces also have new stylish furniture, parasols and low solar lighting for the roof, plus a large number of tea light holders to allow you spend time with your loved ones by candle light.

Further details outdoors

All the amenities needed for a relaxing holiday in tranquil surroundings for families and for those who want a quiet break.

Further details

Please note that this is a non-smoking apartment.

The Crete region

Crete is the largest and most southerly of the Greek islands and this provides visitors with interesting contrasts. There is a rich history and culture to be discovered with archaeological sites spread across the island, legend has it that Crete is the Birthplace of Zeus!

Visitors have plenty of opportunities to explore the island by car, walking, hiking, climbing and mountain biking (for the brave). Crete is known for its beautiful scenery, rugged mountains which rise to over 2000 meters above sea level, plateaux, gorges, beautiful sandy beaches and rocky coves.

The Cretan people are renowned for their hospitality and a warm welcome awaits all visitors, especially the young and the young at heart. Alfresco living is the order of the day and visitors requiring stress-free holidays will not be disappointed.

Crete is located in the Mediterranean, on the southern edge of Europe, south east Crete enjoys better than average weather, thanks to its North African influenced climate and the mountain ridge which runs across the island from the West to the East.

It is this geography means that the Makrigialos area has the best climate in all of Crete, and possibly the entire Mediterranean.

Bayview is located just two minutes' walk from the Lagada beach, on the outskirts of Makrigialos, a picturesque fishing village which is one of the quieter, less developed destinations in Crete, more suited to couples and families. It is is peaceful, unhurried and surrounded by magnificent untouched countryside.

The scenery is spectacular with majestic mountains and beautiful bays, in fact the name Makrigialos means long beach and the beach here is just that, it is blue flag accredited and has golden sands and safe shallow bathing, suitable for children of all ages. There is on offer a range of water sports facilities in the summer season.

The harbour area is a pleasant place to stroll around, with its own patch of sandy beach. The waterfront stretches away from the harbour to the east and is dotted with bars, restaurants, cafés and tavernas, many of which open onto the beach. If you enjoy sampling authentic Cretan food, you’ll have a great time with locally produced fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, wine, and of course the best olive oil in the World.

For those of you who enjoy history, there is plenty to see including two archaeological sites within Makrigialos; an Minoan Villa and a Roman villa.

You can visit the island of Koufonisi on one of the many daily boat trips from Makrigialos. The boats leave from the harbour in the morning and returning in the afternoon. The island was once partly covered by a Roman factory producing scarlet dies for the robes of the emperors, from sea shells. So it's also an archaeological site of interest, it also has wonderful beaches, where you can enjoy a swim and a packed lunch.

Nearby dotting the mountain sides you will find several traditional Cretan villages, such as Pefki and Agios Stefanos. Pefki has its own Folk Museum, housed in the village Primary School. Here you can see everyday objects used by Cretans in the past, such as looms, grape presses, pithos jars, tools, spinning wheels, oil lamps, etc. The objects have been donated to the Folk Museum by inhabitants of Pefki. It’s worth spending some time in the village, wandering through the narrow streets and enjoying the peace, simplicity and picturesque atmosphere of the place.

There are three gorges to be found in the Makrigialos region, Pefki Gorge, Moni Kapsa Gorge and Butterfly Gorge. Pefki Gorge offers a walk along a pretty and picturesque route through the pine wood, Butterfly gorge starts high up on the road to Orino and ends at Koutsouras National Park and Moni Kapsa Gorge begins at the village of Kato Pervolakia finishes at the monastery of Moni Kapsa. All provide wonderful scenery.

"A great place to relax"

The apartment is equipped with everything you could need for a comfortable holiday and both the large balcony and the roof terrace are very well furnished. The views are fantastic from the apartment across the sea and mountains.A car is essential here as the apartment is a little remote but that is part of its attraction and anything you need is only a few minutes by car in the village.

Our 7yr old said "wow" when we arrived at the apartment and stepped out onto the balcony - it is definitely worth a wow! It is also worth the drive from the airport, don't be put off by this, the route was easy, the roads are good and you end up in a beautiful part of the island, away from mass tourism and crowded beaches. The apartment is well equipped, the pools are fantastic and having the local bakery deliver bread and spinach pies to reception each morning at your request was an added bonus! We also made use of the organic vegetable stall down the road which kept our daughter happy with giant tomotoes and melon! Our favourite beach was "Green Beach", just down the road, a beautiful setting with a great taverna, friendly staff and excellent food at very good prices. We would also recommend visiting Sitia, for the lovely harbour, cafes and shops and a visit to Spinalonga is a must, especially if you've read "The Island". It was a joy to return to the apartment after our days out and relax on the balcony with a meal and glass of wine and we would thoroughly recommend the apartment to anyone due to its location, facilities and the value it offered. All communication with the owner Lisa was via email and her promptness and information made the whole process very easy - thankyou for this. The world's a big place with so many places to visit, but this is one we'd return to!

I'm glad you and your family had a lovely holiday. Lisa

We stayed at Bayview Apartments, Makrigialos, and it was everything we wanted from our holiday. The apartment was fantastic, ideal for two, and had the added bonus for us of it's own roof garden. From booking with the owner, Lisa, to Anja and Christopher at Bayview, everything was very easy and nothing was too much trouble. It was a perfect holiday (if a little short).

"everything you need for a relaxing holiday"

A very nice & reasobaly equipted (a coolbox would have been very useful)apartment in a fantastic setting over looking the sea. Weather amazing for the time of year......very hot!
Friendly & helpful complex managers.
Easy access to the beach. The walk into the town took about 20 minutes but it was a pleasant walk & reasonably well lit up on the way back to the apartment in the evening. The locals again were very friendly & helpful & some very nice food on offer.
This is our second visit to Makrogilios but our first & hopefully not last visit to this apartment. throughout Lisa & been very helpful & no problems with our booking. thanks Lisa.

Thanks for your review Sue. We did have a cool box and picnic set in the apartment which appears to have gone missing. I will be arranging for a new one to be placed in the apartment. Many thanks again. Lisa

"Beauty, Comfort, Relaxation"

I booked this apartment on-line as a result of a visit to the Home and Away site, although all but the first contact was directly with the owner who was most helpful and accommodating. Booking forms were uncomplicated and sent via email with specific instructions/conditions. Once confirmed and payment received full details of how to find Bayview together with other useful information were provided. A damage deposit was required which was returned within days of leaving the apartment. On arrival at Bayview the service could not have been friendlier. We were shown immediately to the apartment and everything we needed to know explained to us. The apartment was exactly as described; newly constructed with all the facilities expected of this kind of accommodation. The bedroom is spacious and is at the rear. There is a balcony off it (there are two balconies in this apartment), which we used to escape the afternoon sun. The lounge and kitchen is in the same room. It is fully equipped and contains a sofa and easy chair together with a TV set. An air conditioning unit is provided at no additional charge. Dining is on the front balcony, which boasts a large table capable of taking six persons. This balcony has stunning views of the beach and bay and overlooks the two swimming pools attached to the complex. There is also a large roof terrace. It has tables, chairs and sunbeds. The views are even better from here. Be warned, however, there is no shade on the roof and the sun is very strong! The apartment complex is private without being remote, but a car is essential unless you are prepared for a fairly lengthy walk into Makrigialos. The apartment is in fact closer to the village of Analipsi (a 20 minute walk) than Makrigialos. There are restaurant and shopping facilities in Analipsi, but it is not quite as pretty as Makrigialos. The whole area has a relaxing feel to it. Prices in the restaurants and bars are competitively pitched. For those looking for a relaxing, care free holiday with plenty of sunshine this is the place to be. I have booked again for 2013!

"Great stay in a beautiful location"

The rental was nicer than we could have expected. The real perks were the 3 terraces from which we enjoyed the beautiful view. The rental was clean and quiet and the management was helpful. It's a perfect place for a couple- a little cramped with children but we managed and were fine. The pools were a real plus, too. We would recommend it and plan to stay there again.

"Convenient penthouse at beauty spot"

A very comfortable apartment for two persons with splendid view - good conditions for relaxing holiday. Convenient furniture inside and outside (except the double bed - 1,40 m is a bit small ...). We enjoyed sitting on the balcony or roof terrace with incredible sea view. End of May there were only very view people at Lagada Beach (bathing shoes recommended!) and also in the tavernas in Makrigialos. We recommend to visit "Gusto" - very good value for money and hospitable.
