The Murcia region
Murcia is an ideal summer and winter destination. Located in the south-east of Spain, between Almeria and Alicante, Murcia luxuriates along a 253km coastline of the purest Mediterranean - the Costa Calida.
Thanks to its privileged location, Murcia enjoys an enviable climate. The 300+ days of sunshine a year provide a myriad of options for open-air activities all year round. Dry lands and lush pastures, plains and mountains, coastline and in-land, beaches, tranquil coves all combine in this area of unrivalled environmental interest.
Murcia is a land steeped in history. Its streets, monuments, castles, chapels, and forts bear witness to the numerous civilisations that have set foot on these shores. Disparate peoples such as the Phoenicians, the Greeks, the Carthaginians, the Romans and the Arabs have all had a hand in the development of the region, leaving a mark which is today an unrivalled cultural heritage, with the Roman Theatre in Cartagena or the Arab and Roman city walls as outstanding examples. Experience and join in with the many colourful fiestas and carnivals that celebrate the Moors and Christians, the Cathaginians and Romans.
Murcia is home of the famous Mar Menor - Europe's largest salt water lagoon. The water is shallower and 5c warmer than other beaches along the coast, hence it is perfect for children. This is one of the best locations in the world for all types of water sports and activities such as swimming, sailing, water-skiing, wind surfing, kayaking, scuba diving, etc. Los Alcazares has a fantastic 2 mile stretch of palm-tree lined beach and promenade, dotted with many cafes and restaurants.
The region is a golfers paradise. There is a large selection of first rate courses to choose from in the area around La Torre. Polaris alone has three different Jack Nicklaus designed courses to choose from at La Torre, Mar Menor and El Valle. A courtesy bus is provide by Polaris linking all three resorts.
There is plenty of shopping to be had in nearby Torrevieja, Murcia city and Cartagena. Close to home is the Dos Mares shopping mall is located just north of San Javier on the N332.
Other attractions in the area include Aqua Natura park in Murcia. It is part of the Terra Natura zoo and is the first water park in Murcia. It is split ito three sections. There are water slides (one entitled the 'Kamikaze'), the lazy river where you can relax and float along wherever the water takes you. There is also the recently opened Aquapolis Water Park in Torrevieja. The kids will love it, even the big ones!

"Beautiful villa, peaceful & relaxing"
My mum, sister, husband, niece (15) and two children (2 & 6month) visited this villa in may 2012. The villa is beautiful, pool heating was a must as we could go in all the time where as the jacuzzi was not used as too cold. Inside is immaculate, the pool and BBQ area are great. All mod cons are there for you. The management company are very helpful and clearly do an excellent job. There is a supermarket on site which has everything you could need. The only downside was the complex itself as it was very very quiet, barely saw another soul. I researched the area before booking and was under the impression there were a lot of bars, restaurants and shops on site - unfortunately this was not the case as there was a pharmacy that only sells after sun and few bits. An Irish bar, a tapas bar and an Italian restaurant. Nothing is open in the daytime either. Once we knew this however we adapted our holiday ideal and still had a fantastic time. We stayed by the pool most days and had lunches in, then went to Los alcazare for meals some nights. A car is a must. If your looking for a peaceful and quiet holiday I would definitely recommend.

We flew into Alicante airport due to flight times being better than Murcia , but it was an easy motorway journey taking less than an hour. The resort itself is very impressive and with it being gated and well patrolled by security guards you instantly feel at ease. The villa was amazing with everything a family with two young children could want , ie a safe , fenced pool and a nice garden to play in. The DVD player complete with some kids dvd's was a huge bonus as it meant our two could cool off inside if they got a bit fed up of the sun. The villa also boasts a jacuzzi which the kids thought was their own private pool!! We paid a bit extra to have the pool heated and it was worth every penny as it meant it was like swimming in the bath - I was popping back in for a dip well after the kids had gone to bed!! The resort itself is very very quiet so if you are after a raucous bar-hopping holiday then this won't be for you but if you just want to wander out for a beer and a quiet meal after a long day lounging by the pool then its perfect. One note of caution though is that this villa is perfectly located for an easy 5 minute walk to both the supermarket and the bars/restaurants on site - we spoke to a few people who's accommodation was located on the far reaches of the resort and they were having to drive to these places which for me defeats the object of being on a self-contained resort a bit - so be careful on villa location. The supermarket on the resort is perfectly adequate and Murcia is only 20 minutes away with a large array of shops and hypermarkets , whilst there is a small industrial estate a 5 minute drive away which has an Indian and a Chinese restaurant. We tried the Indian and it was pretty good. All in all if you are looking for a quiet holiday where your focus is relaxing by the pool then this resort and in particular this villa are great value and I would highly recommend it especially if you have young kids.
