The Ionian Islands region
Kefalonia is part of the Ionian islands, a group of islands in western Greece with a common history since the Homeric age 3000 years ago.
Different from the traditional Greek island pictures you may have in mind, the Ionian islands are lush and green and have a milder climate compared to the Aegean islands. The wind and the temperature (average 32 Celsius during summer) are lower. Thanks to the rain and snow that fall during the winter the islands are rich in natural resources.
The western influence on the islands is obvious, however the local traditions are still very strong.
The Ionian Islands are an ideal place for relaxing holidays.
Kefalonia / Skala area
Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian islands and famous for its natural diversity. The island was the home of the Homeric hero Odysseus and is the place where the filming of the famous Hollywood production ''Captain Corelli'', took place.
From place to place the Kefalonia scenery is different. You can visit mysterious underground lakes and caves, the vast forests of the national park of Mt. Aenos or the endless selection of beaches... long sandy beaches or private little hidden bays surrounded by evergreen pine trees and the emerald blue of the sea . The Island offers a great variety of activities and sightseeing... Ancient sites, Medieval castles, traditional villages and elegant coast resorts. The local kitchen offers a variety of choices. Near Villa Alkionis you find activities like water sports, Spa, wine tasting, Scuba diving, horse riding as well as sport facilities.
Kefalonia is known as a holiday island for relaxation and is mostly prefered by families for tourism or yachting holidaymakers. The area around the Villa is peaceful and isolated, however just 4 km away the town of Skala provides a lot of restaurants, bars, services and an endless sandy beach. Most visitors of Villa Alkionis also prefer visiting the town of Poros (6 km away). The Kaminia beach, 6 km away from Villa Alkionis, is a perfect sandy beach for small kids because of its shallow waters.
How to get there
Many charter flights arrive every day at Kefalonia airport, from May to October and from all major airports of the UK and NW Europe countries. There are also daily flights directly from Athens.

Guestbook for Villa Alkionis
• Rumours of a destination are rarely lived up to. Kefalonia surpassed all of them. A wonderful island, wonderful people, wonderful villa. When peace and relaxation are required, what better to hear the lapping of the sea against the rocks and the only movement needed is to wave at the occasional fishermen passing by. Kate and Ian, London • We too had a wonderful time here. This villa is superb for the family holiday – peaceful but beautifully and conveniently located. Kefalonia is undoubtedly a very special island – the people are extremely friendly and hospitable. Tourism at its best. Jacqueline, London • We have had a fantastic holiday and the villa is amazing. We were expecting a beautiful villa from the brochure pictures but it has blown us all away and exceeded our expectations. The dolphins visited yesterday at 6.45 am-ish. Keith and Karen • We do not want to go home today! What a great week we have had. The island is beautiful and we loved Assos and Fiscardo. Skala has a great beach and the girls enjoyed water skiing. The villa is stunning and I want to take it back to Bournemouth with me and put it on the coast back home. Jane and Rob, Bournemouth
