Welcome to the Sweet Spot Stay: Magical Grotto Cottage. Our off-grid cottage is tucked into a lush oasis in a small subdivision just off the enchanting "Red Road". What is unique about this cottage is a tremendous amount of effort went into building it under the trees and in a deep ravine created by an ancient collapsed lava tube. Totally private and you would know it was there unless somebody pointed it out. The minute you walk under the canopy you are transported into a Jurassic Park lush environment where giant trees loom over the house. The floor to ceiling windows look out onto a view that is so unique that the place itself was named by the visitors who came and all said, "This is a sweet spot" and so it was.

The view of the enormous monkey-pod and fruit trees out of the window wall is enchanting, as well as the various vine covered pathways that lead throughout this beautiful property. There is a sunken living room with 12 foot high ceilings comfy memory foam queen bed, full studio kitchen, and a shower that is totally private but outdoors next to a massive mango tree trunk. The toilet is an outdoor screened in composting toilet that perfectly pleasant and we promise it is the best view from a toilet you will ever have in your life. Without fail when people walk through the door and look out the big picture windows they are amazed that such a place could be possible. There is some unique history as the owner builder was a one time theater owner and the walls are made from repurposed wood that use to be the stage. There is nothing like this property anywhere up and down the entire Kalapana coast and it has been cultivated since 1991. You don't get a room or a rental at the Sweet Spot Stay you get a memory that will never fade and experience you will share with friends and family. Nothing ordinary about this place.

Due to allergens no animals of any kind (including service animals) are not allowed. Even the cat remains outdoors. Please leave shoes at the door, Hawaiian Style. There are plenty of places to smoke outside just not in the house please. Don't leave lights on when you leave or the ceiling fan. Please close all windows during the rains to keep the place dry and cozy. Watch your step around the grounds as it is uneven. Don't leave food out on counters or in sink as it attracts bugs. No Candles!!

If Michael (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
