“Remote, quaint just outside the crowds of North Shore” Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Orange Cottage at Owen's Retreat. Yes - it could use a little "sprucing up" like others have mentioned. This is not some swanky beach cottage. But we weren't really looking for that. It was peaceful and intimate. The ocean is literally feet away. The beach directly out front is not swimable - but drive either direction a few minutes and you have all kinds of beaches to swim at. 10 minute drive to the shops and restaurants of North Shore. The airplanes and helicopters were not an issue - it all stopped at night time. The caretakers were very sweet and around if you needed them.

“Wonderful Place to stay!” We were not disappointed in the least. The condo shows a real respect by the owners for their ownership not only for themselves but their guests. We are a family of 4 and the stay was comfortable. Great to have a full equipped kitchen and Washer and Dryer. Pool right out side and short walk to the beach at Turtle Beach Resort. Only warning is they charge extra if you go over 15 Kwhs/day. We hardly ever used the air conditioning but was told we went over. So I guess if you do use the washer and dryer and limited air conditioning you will be charged extra. Regardless, We would definitely stay here again.

“Wonderful Experience” Kelly, Just wanted to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your studio apartment. It was perfect for the two of us. You did a marvelous job updating the space and certainly have a kitchen well stocked with appliances. It is centrally located to all the places we like to enjoy, as well as the ala Moana shopping center and several grocery stores. We are most appreciative of your responsiveness. Mahalo.

“Close to everything with a great ocean view” Loved the condo and it's location to the beach, shopping, and dining. It is only about 2 blocks to the beach. The room has a good ocean view. The only negative thing I can say is that there could be some improvement on some details. Such as the wood floor is 95% complete and the room could use a fresh coat of paint. The condo owner was very good in answering all our questions in a timely manner. Overall was very happy staying here and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again on our next visit.

“my favorite place on oahu” Over the years I've thoroughly enjoyed this place as a peaceful retreat to beat the buzz of the city. lots of beachy character, Waking to the sound of waves lapping on the shoreline, I get into a swimsuit right out of bed and walk 20 feet for a morning ocean dip, I see turtles every time. great stargazing. it has a way of clearing my mind whenever i arrive. small and cozy, yet light and airy. Having bad allergies, I appreciate the cleanliness, personal washer/dryer, hot water, soft sheets, abundant large beach towels. Lots of light, comfy furniture, tv, ipod/cd player/radio, kitchenware, 4 burner gas range, microwave. beach gear, lounge chairs, 2min. walk to 2 minimarts, 5min drive to supermarket and eateries. incredibly quiet, but I also enjoyed having a dinner party on the porch with a few friends. It feels open and easy, yet secure. its a very low crime area. the beach is private property and often its just me lounging, with the occasional jogger or swimmer passing by. the beach its a long reef shelf, so the waves are breaking far away, very safe to swim with kids since its so shallow and sandy with no waves closeby. Near, there are lots of hiking trails, beaches, famous north shore with its scenic winter surf and haleiwa beach town, golf courses, horse back riding, mac nut farms, polynesian cultural center, shrimp trucks, and the city is only about 45 minutes away. The bus stop is adjacent to the complex, and will take you either direction. Being ground level and able to park right next to the porch, makes this extremely accomodating for elderly or disabled. the reserved parking stall borders the porch, a BBQ is 30ft away. secure internet, cell reception, close to food and gas, yet far from traffic and distractions, really makes for a great experience. I stayed anywhere from 2-30 days dozens of times. you can't find a more enjoyable place to stay at such a great price. I hate leaving! usually booked pretty far in advance. Dreamy is right!

“Great location” The Bird Cage's location at the quiet end of Waikiki, in the Grand, is perfect...close to the beach, restaurants, buses, steps from Waikiki's madness, and a short stumble from Hula's. The suite is modest, but comfortable for two people. The kitchen is well-equipped and has everything you need to make breakie or a maitai. Our host, Kevin was helpful, communicative, reliable and a pleasure to deal with.

“Hoping to return!” My husband and I stayed for a week, and look forward to the chance to go back! The beach here is amazing, and the views are even better. Unit #401 is small, but the near 180-degree views totally negate this. Punalu'u is the perfect getaway. It's blissfully quiet, with great beaches. But still within very comfortable range of many tourism sites, and plenty of resources. This makes Pat's the ideal location, and Raymond and Ofelia's unit 401 a great spot for enjoying all of it!

“Hidden Gem” I hesitate to write a glowing review because I would really like to keep this place a secret. Our daughter lives on the North Shore and we have been renting vacation condos there for over 10 years. This year, we were having difficulty finding a place in Haleiwa and expanded our search to the surrounding areas. We found this jewel and will never stay anywhere else again. It's right on the beach - any closer and you'd be wet. Sitting on the patio you can watch the whales passing by during migrating seasons. It's quiet and perfect for two people. The owner even met us at the airport when we arrived. Not sure if he does that all the time, but it was a very nice touch. If you are looking for night life and crowded beaches, bars and restaurants - this is not the place.

Oahu holidays

With a nickname like 'the gathering place,' Oahu is a melting pot of ethnicities, activities and personalities. As the governmental and cultural capital of Hawaii, Oahu has a pulse like none other. Hawaiian holidayers seek out the rare mix of life that defines the island. In Oahu, the Pacific Rim cuisine is infused with the piping hot noodles of Japan, the easy-going island outlook is contrasted with the humble solemnity of Pearl Harbor, and Honolulu's metropolis bustles with the serene volcanic parks rising into a jade oblivion in the distance.

With several communities dappling the coasts, each region of the island offers something to fulfil any notion of a dream Hawaiian holiday. Honolulu and Waikiki flank the southern coast, which is perhaps, the most famed area in Hawaii. Honolulu, the vibrant capitol, has a spunky beat, combining the laid-back island mentality with the fast-paced veracity of the city. Waikiki has been voted one of the best beaches countless times and with Diamond Head watching over beach dwellers, it's no wonder why. At the opposite end of the island, the North Shore is widely considered the best place in the world for surfing. At any time of the year, salty surfers glide over the sparkling ocean while 20 foot waves chase them to the shore.

Here are a few additional suggestions to help you plan your trip:

  • Take a surf lesson: There are plenty of excellent surfing schools along the North shore with skilled, patient teachers who can have you up and hitting the waves in no time.
  • Go snorkelling in the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve: Encounter brilliantly coloured fish, sea turtles and protected live coral in this spectacular preserve.
  • Take the scenic drive to Makapu'u Point: Explore lively tide pools, take a beautiful hike up a paved path, and experience breathtaking views from the overlook.
  • Visit the Ala Moana Beach Park: This is a great place to relax and a safe calm swimming spot for small children. Have a family picnic in this serene setting close to public facilities, shopping areas, and a jogging path.
  • See the Manoa Falls: Just outside of Honolulu, take the hour long hike to the spectacular 100 foot high Manoa Falls.
  • Visit the Polynesian Cultural Center: Learn more about Polynesian Island heritage with a visit to this 42-acre facility on the North Shore.

After a long day of adventures in paradise, watch the sunset from a deck of a luxury Oahu dinner cruise, and then retire to your beautiful beach condo and enjoy a relaxed evening with someone special. Rent a romantic holiday rental just a few steps from the beach, or book a sprawling, elegant holiday home with room for your family and friends. This area is a popular choice for couples planning Oahu weddings or families gathering for reunions. While you're visiting Oahu, don't miss a chance to explore Maui and Kauai as well.
