The Languedoc-Roussillon region
Mediterranean Climate with warm dry summers. The ancient Cite of Carcassonne is only a 55 mins away and the Cathar route is on the doorstep. Narbonne with its famous covered market Les Halles - open everyday from 7am - 2.00pm including Sundays - is only 35 minutes away. The Canal du Midi passes through Narbonne and there are a number of good restaurants in both Narbonne and Carcassonne. There is also a Michelin starred restaurant just 4 kilometers away. Details of local attractions and restaurants are described in a manual kept in the house along with local maps and a guide book.
The wine growing regions of Corbieres and Fitou are on the doorstep - many of the vineyards have restaurants attached. There is an organic wine grower within walking distance of the house.
The beaches of Leucate and La Franqui are only about half an hour away and the ski resorts of Font Romeu are two hours away in the Pyrennees, The Spanish Border just south of Perpignan is about one and a half hours away by motorway.
There is good motorway access to both north and south as well as west so Toulouse in only an hour and a half away. To the north there is Sete on the coast where the Canal du Midi reaches the sea. There are superb seafood restaurants alongside the canal.
The villages near to Durban such as Cascastel, Tuchan and Paziols all have restaurants. In Lagrasse there is an abbey as well as a couple of restaurants and of course local wine to taste.
Durban is in the Corbieres region in a hilly area with beautiful views and marked walking routes. In Durban Corbieres there is a Cathar Castle on the hill in the old part of the village. The small river runs through the middle of the village - separating the old from the new. There are several local wine and honey producers from whom you can buy local produce. The region does have a Spanish influence both in language and cuisine. There are festivals in Durban and the surrounding villages in August and before Christmas.
For younger visitors there is a wild life park at Sigean and aqua sports on the Mediterranean coast.
For the adventurous there is water skiing, wakeboarding and other water sports at a number of the coastal resorts, or Skiing , white water rafting, canyoning etc in the Pyrenees as well as many thermal spa"s. The area attracts a lot of cycleist due to the lovely winding roads through the vineyards and hills.

"The BEST family summer holiday we've had to date!"
This place is amazing and well exceeded our expectations!
'Villa Les Highly Recommended' more like!
The pictures on the booking site do not do the place justice - if you book based on the pictures you see, then you will not be disappointed at all.
If you are looking for a safe and quiet place (its on a security gated complex) in beautiful surroundings set up above the village of Durban Corbieres with loads of space for your family & friends + with your own swimming pool just a couple of steps from the lounge patio doors... then we cannot recommend this villa highly enough.
The place was very clean when we arrived and the 3 bedrooms had really comfortable beds in them and sheets/duvets - 2x queen sized beds in the first 2 rooms and then 2x singles in the 3rd bedroom.
We could see that the whole place has been cared for because the decorative condition was excellent throughout the villa...a very nice change from our previous holidays where the pictures on the booking sites well 'over sold' the look of the place when we arrived.
The Master Bedroom leads onto its own separate part of the pool decking area with round table and chairs. It's shaded from the sun for most of the day which is great - so you can enjoy waking up without being blinded by the Sun and enjoy a cup of coffee for breakfast watching the sun illuminating the surrounding hills in the distance. Also it allows the children to have time out of the sun right next to the pool during the day... doing colouring so they don't get burnt.
The Master Bedroom had an en-suite shower room with large shower area and there was also a separate family bathroom with bath and shower + also separate toilet room.
The lounge is massive with very high vaulted ceiling (which you won't see from the pictures) and plenty of room to sit around and relax out of the sun or in the evening. There is a DVD player and Sky TV as well - including Wi-Fi access.
The lounge also has a large family table - perfect for breakfasts or evening dinners.
Out the back of the villa (via door in the lounge) is a large shaded table area...which is where the children did their colouring to stay out of the midday sunshine and to cool down. You could also use this for evening meals outside as well.
The kitchen is large and has an Induction Electric Hob, full Fridge / Freezer, Filtered Coffee maker and Microwave. It also has a Washing Machine, Tumble Dryer and Dishwasher - so giving a very much 'Home from Home' feeling.
It also means that if you're staying for 2 weeks+ you only need to take a week's clothes with you (ideal if you are flying out there)
There is a large outside BBQ area with external chimney for those evening meals in
The sliding patio doors in both the lounge and master bedroom have full electric shutters to keep the sun out first thing in the morning, as required during the day, and provide additional security (to just locked doors) when you away from the villa.
The other two bedrooms have traditional full French shutters which block the sun out...and meant the children slept in much longer than usual - which was great for us to have lie-ins!!
A major plus of the villa is that the sunbathing area by the pool is served by the sun (un-blocked by buildings) from circa 0900 in the morning right round to 2000 at night when it drops behind the hills (August). This gives maximum flexibility to enjoy the sun in the morning and then go off exploring in the afternoon (Beach, Castles etc) before returning around 1700 to 1800 and enjoying another long swim session in the evening.
Our 3 girls loved the pool and our youngest really built up her confidence swimming due to the raised area all around the edge of the pool - enabling her to swim in the deep end by the end of our 2-week stay.
The local village supermarket has its own bakery which is ideal for fresh morning Baguettes, Flutes and Croissants to enjoy with your filtered coffee.
Jeanne and Dave who look after the villa were lovely people and really helped us with booking local restaurants and being on-hand to provide advice during our stay and regularly checked in with us to make sure everything was fine.
In summary - a superb villa in a wonderfully picturesque location which has loads of space, is in brilliant condition, is very comfortable with all the usual amenities you would enjoy at home, BUT...with that all important private swimming pool to enjoy & cool off from the all-day sun after sunbathing....perfect for families!

"Excellent villa in quiet location"
We have just returned from a week in this beautiful villa in the Corbierres wine region. The villa is furnished to a really high standard and has lovely outdoor eating areas. The pool is small but spotlessly clean. It is a really good base for travelling around the region with lovely beaches only 20 minutes drive away and Spain less than an hour.

"The best villa we have stayed in."
We have stayed in this villa many times. The location is beautiful surrounded by vineyards and lovely views over the village and surrounding countryside. the quiet and relaxing location is only an easy drive to many beautiful beaches. It is equipped to a very high standard with really comfy beds and top quality bed linen and towels. It is spotlessly clean and looked after by Jeanne and David who have always been extremely helpful (speaking French and English). It is a short stroll to the village, which has a supermarket, doctors, filling station, bakers, (for those lovely morning croissants),swimming pool, tennis courts etc. The villa's heated pool is always a lovely treat, well maintained by David. We would recommend this villa very highly for all ages for a perfect stay.

"Sun, pool, relax"
Villa les Hauts is a great house in an interesting area including views of an old castle. The house is well appointed and the pool was put to good use with 30 degrees everyday. Great day trips available from Durban Corbieres or top up your supplies from the local supermarket or cave, and relax by the pool.
Great holiday with children and will be keen to go back.

"A wonderful villa in a fabulous setting"
The villa is really well furnished and decorated, great open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area. Plenty of towels were supplied which is great help for a family who are flying (not much luggage room) The pool was great especially as the heating made sure the kids went in whatever the weather! Jeane who met us there was lovely and very helpful. Lovely welcome pack and lots of left overs such as spices and oil etc were ready for us.
Beautiful area, beautiful villa, had a great time.
