The owner Bozo could not do enough to answer our original queries, which was especially important as we had not booked independently before.

The property was literally just inside the old town, so perfect for being close to the Pile gate for organised excursions (that tended to leave from the garage of the Hilton Hotel) / Bus stop / the Konzum supermarket. As you come out of the Pile Gate, Konzum is slightly back on the right (so a little hidden).

The property was lovely, and we even spent a couple of evenings in after tiring day trips. You just open the shutters and the sound of live music / people dining outside flows in, so you feel like you are out, even when you are in. Do not be concerned that it is noisy....it's more like a soothing, relaxing ambience. We were never disturbed by noise in the evening, although when the apartment above us was in use, there was some noise from people walking around. The only thing I would say about the property is that although it sleeps 4, we felt it may have been a squeeze if we had more than 2 adults.

The kitchen had everything we needed, large fridge with freezer. Lovely spacious bathroom. Don't turn off all the switches outside the bathroom though, we realised one was to heat the shower water! Bedroom also lovely and spacious, but be careful with the wooden bed frame, as it's low down we kept walking into it by accident.

Bozo arrange for his housekeeper Anka to collect us from the airport. We arrived during the day and originally were getting the bus, but we were really glad we had the car waiting for us in the end. I would highly recommend this option when lugging cases around.

I would highly recommend Rick Steve's 'SnapShot' of Dubrovnik Guidebook for info on what to do. He is an American author, and incredibly thorough. The book is unique in that it focused on Dubrovnik (whereas most other books cover all of Croatia, which is just too large an area for one trip), but it also gives a lot of detail on 2 worthwhile and accessible trips to other countries that border with Croatia, the first Bosnia-Herzegovena and the second Montenegro. We visited Mostar in Bosnia, which was an amazing eye opening and well worth the trip (about 3 hrs, but with stops along the way). There is still war damage, but also you get to see the areas that have really come back to life. We booked an organised tour, but if you are comfortable driving abroad I would recommend you take your license and hire a car, as with all the trips we found you never got as long in places as you were told when buying.

For a beach with sunbeds, leave the old town through the east gate, walk straight on along the road, then go down the steps that say 'Beach Club' - you don't have to pay to enter if you are happy to sit on the pebbles, which aren't too uncomfy actually.

For the less commercialised beaches, leave the Pile gate, then ask for directions. You end up going past apartments and it feels domestic, but you will be going in the right direction.

I loved the Old Town atmosphere the most, being able to mill around, find a little spot / cafe to read my book and watch the world go by. Drinks in the evening accompanied by live music.

The only thing we found was that dining out seemed to be either great food but mediocre service / great location but with not so great food, But, this hardly mattered as we loved being in the old town so much.

The apartment is fab. Really central and just a stones throw away from all that Dubrovnik has to offer. Two flights of shairs to negotiate but well worth the climb. Everything you will need is available for you.
