“Convenient location that's spacious and clean” The owner met us at the bus terminal and showed us to the apartment. The apartment is very close (less than 5 minutes if not distracted) to the Pile Gate and the bus terminal. It's tucked away in a side street so it feels safe and quiet. There's a supermarket and bakery close by.
The apartment is spacious, clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well-equipped. After a week of vacation, we were happy to have a washer, drying rack and clothes pins.
Owner left some guide books and pamphlets for us to use. She also gave us a list of recommended restaurants and a discount card for restaurants, walking tours and excursions.
Owner lives close by and is very responsive with e-mail, both before and during the stay.
“Perfect for Exploring the old Town and Stunning views” We arrived on the Tuesday (as a group, two sets of parents with a chld under 1 each) and it was a pleasure to find such a tidy and modern apartment!
The communication between Marijana (the owner) and myself was great and any questions i had (regarding travel cots/ameneties for the babies were answered promptly and politely).
The first thing we saw upon entering the apartment was the view from the triple aspect french windows .. AMAZING! we arrived at sunset and boy did that put a smile on our faces.
The apartment is very high up, set back from the harbour (the town graduates up the side of the cliffs) however apart from this being a lot of hard work with buggies, it gave us the most amazing views of the old town and the island.
The apartment is a two bedroom, but the main bedroom has a double bed and another single - with room for a travel cot too) and the second bedroom has two single beds and a cot bed.
The kitchen has good facilites (but we were lost without a microwave) and the lounge/dining area was bright, spacious and modern.
Marijana and her husband were wonderful in helping us to the very end of our stay and i would highly recommend this apartment to friends and family.
The apartment is approximatley a 15/20 minute walk (down the main roads) to the old town .. (probably 15 minutes if you use all the steps)
“Enjoyable and homely” We were touched by Srdan (host of House Hilda 2) who was very helpful right from the first email contact, through to his very warm welcome and promptness in replying emails even whilst we were there, and ensuring our stay was comfortable. The apartment was home-ly, good size for 4, has all the amenities one needs, and a lovely view of part of the Old Town from one side of the apartment (but which means one has a flight of steps to climb, which we didn't mind, and took as good exercise!).
If one has a baby in tow, be aware the steps may be an inconvenience with prams.
The House was a convenient starting point to explore the Old Town, and surrounding coast.
“Amazing view from the terrace” The view from the terrace is breathtaking, host friendly and apartment clean. Kitchen in separate small building on terrace so you have to go out of apartment to use it. Walk up from the old town is up hill and takes a good 15 minutes so would not recommend for elderly or with small children.
“Exactly what it claims to be ...very pleasant stay” First trip to Croatia ... predominantly a city break in Dubrovnik. Prior to visiting Mara, our host, was prompt and helpful with a variety of email enquiries. Dubrovnik is a beautiful destination, albeit a very small city. You could do the city in a day, but it takes two or three to properly soak up the atmosphere and build up a photo album. I stayed in Mara's flat with a good friend for a week. We were out a lot of the time. The city is a good base point to also use for Day Trips on boats (some of which leave from the old city ..you don't have to travel to the new harbour) and coaches e.g. the nearby beach and resort of Cavtat. Although Mara lives on another floor in the house with immediate family, they are no way intrusive ...simply available if you have any enquiries. Infact although everywhere in and around the city felt safe and civilised, it was nice to have that extra sense of scurity about an inhabited building. The flat is half way down/up a steep slope of steps. Just to be clear ...so is almost everywhere in the city, and often outside it. So you will work off anything you eat! Many of the restaurants and cafe's are very average, but one of the very best (and cheapest) is just a few steps (up!) from Mara's by the name of Lady Pi Pi (which has, I'm told, many good reviews). None of the beaches are great, being more pebbles than sand, but many are acceptable, including two that are a 10 minute and a 1 hour walk from the city, and the swimming is excellent. If I went again would I stay at this flat? ...depends on circumstances....I'd also consider Cavtat and other parts of the country, but only because I've now done 2/3 days in the city and would be looking for something different.
