“Exactly what it claims to be ...very pleasant stay” First trip to Croatia ... predominantly a city break in Dubrovnik. Prior to visiting Mara, our host, was prompt and helpful with a variety of email enquiries. Dubrovnik is a beautiful destination, albeit a very small city. You could do the city in a day, but it takes two or three to properly soak up the atmosphere and build up a photo album. I stayed in Mara's flat with a good friend for a week. We were out a lot of the time. The city is a good base point to also use for Day Trips on boats (some of which leave from the old city ..you don't have to travel to the new harbour) and coaches e.g. the nearby beach and resort of Cavtat. Although Mara lives on another floor in the house with immediate family, they are no way intrusive ...simply available if you have any enquiries. Infact although everywhere in and around the city felt safe and civilised, it was nice to have that extra sense of scurity about an inhabited building. The flat is half way down/up a steep slope of steps. Just to be clear ...so is almost everywhere in the city, and often outside it. So you will work off anything you eat! Many of the restaurants and cafe's are very average, but one of the very best (and cheapest) is just a few steps (up!) from Mara's by the name of Lady Pi Pi (which has, I'm told, many good reviews). None of the beaches are great, being more pebbles than sand, but many are acceptable, including two that are a 10 minute and a 1 hour walk from the city, and the swimming is excellent. If I went again would I stay at this flat? ...depends on circumstances....I'd also consider Cavtat and other parts of the country, but only because I've now done 2/3 days in the city and would be looking for something different.
“Cosy apartment in the heart of the Old Town” We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Dubrovnik, made all the better for having this great little apartment as a base to explore the city and beyond. Our host, Damir, met us upon arrival in the Old Town and even helped us with our luggage. He gave us plenty of useful tips and information about the city and was always available via a text message if we had any queries.
The apartment itself was well equipped for the price with a double bed, local / satellite tv, cooker/hob with two rings, fridge/freezer, microwave and fast and reliable wi-fi which was free to use. The views out over the Old Town were stunning, whichever window you looked out of. Despite being close to the city walls and only several minutes walk from the Stradun, the apartment was always peaceful.
One word of caution, for an otherwise fantastic stay, the apartment is reached by climbing many steps up from the old town, and then several flights of stairs within the building. This place is perhaps not suitable for any persons with mobility issues as there is no lift available, and climbing the old town steps may be problematic.
Shops and restaurants were mere minutes walk away. We suggest 'Mea Culpa' for great pizza, 'Taj Mahal' for excellent Bosnian food and 'Patisserie Niko' for tasty pancakes for breakfast. Most of the attractions were also close by and the Pile Gate, where the shuttle buses drop you off from the airport, was also only several minutes walk away.
All-in-all the apartment was clean, comfortable, well-maintained and great value for money considering the location. We loved our stay here and will certainly recommend it to our friends and family.
