The Canal Barn at Upper Foxhangers Farm forms part of a courtyard of traditional farm buildings that are set in the confines of a Grade 2, 18c farmhouse that has been sympathetically converted to provide a luxury holiday cottage with a contemporary feel. The cottage has airy rooms with open beams, log burner and en-suite facilities.

Upper Foxhangers Farm is located on the southern edge of the village of Rowde at the foot of the historic Caen Hill flight of locks and the accommodation has south facing views across the farm's dew pond and surrounding meadows. There is plenty of space for children to run around and explore.

The canal is an integral part of the farm and can be loacted through a gate from the field, the brightly coloured narrowboats pass by regularly on their way up and down the flight of locks. Just the place to relax and watch the moorhens, ducks and occasional swan fly in. Cycle the tow path to Bradford on Avon or Bath, stopping at the plenty of pubs to refresh yourself a long the way. A Perfect base to explore the historic Wiltshire landmarks, take a canal boat ride or relax and fish by the canal edge.

The Central Southern England region

Wiltshire if full of historic sites to visit such as Avebury, Stonehenge, Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow and the pretty towns and villages of Lacock, Bradford on Avon, Castle Coombe, Marlborough and the City of Salisbury. The lovely national trust gardens of Stourhead are not far, and historic estates of Bowood and Iford Manor are close by. Wiltshire is sandwiched between the counties of Somerset, Dorset and the Cotswolds and is an ideal base to explore these counties too, with the City of Bath also only half an hour away from Devizes.

Devizes

Upper Foxhangers Farm is located on the southern edge of the village of Rowde at the foot of the historic Caen Hill flight of locks on the Kennet and Avon Canal. The lovely market town of Devizes is close by with a traditional market every Thursday and visiting markets on some Saturdays. Home to Wadworths and 6X, there are brewery visits, ghost walks, and a museum to keep you occupied in the town, even a castle. The Battle of Roundway Down took place nearby at Roundway Hill to the edge of Rowde, also located there is the ridgeway for lovely walks and the vale of Pewsey nearby, both with their white horses. The historic town of Marlborough is also nearby and you pass by Silbury Hill and West Kennet Long Barrow to get to it. Abundant with Wadsworth pubs and freehouses, there are plenty of places to go to eat and drink.

"Charming, well-kept, friendly and comfortable"

We had a great weekend break here, it's a lovely location right by the canal, perfect for walks (we were lucky with the autumn weather!) and nice pubs nearby with good food.

The owners were very friendly, the rooms seemed very well looked after and we had everything we needed. Very cosy in the evening with the wood stove. Highly recommended!

"Archetypal English Holiday"

We decided to hire the barn for a week away, and we were not disappointed. I took my wife and twelve year old son and my mum and sister came as well.

What a lovely converted barn only two hours from home. The barn conversion is in excellent condition, spacious and provides all mod cons. It easily sleeps six, and could accomodate eight at a push. The location is superb - a hidden jewel in the Wiltshire countryside, a few yards from the Kennet and Avon Canal.

"could have been so much better"

The communication with the owners was poor . Booking by e-mail took a time to sort and e-mail responce took days . On arrival the key was not where we were told it would be . The property was cold and… More

Thank you for your comments, we are sorry you did not enjoy your two nights stay with us. We came and switched the heating on when you requested, as your guests were elderly we pointed out there was also a wood burner laid for use and a basket of logs had you wished to use it. You collected the keys from us as advised in our letter. We usually supply tea towels and soap, apologies if they were missing. On this occasion white bin bags were supplied rather than black. Most of our guests like our contemporary furnishings but it is difficult to please everyone. Most of our guests are very forthcoming when it comes to breakages and find the list useful.

"The perfect getaway"

Nice place. It had all what we need to have a week holiday, The kitchen was well equipped, and the bathrooms were clean and tidy.

Best of all is the view and scenery. Devizes canal is just behind you and you can walk for miles on end by the canal watching those lovely long boats going through the locks.
