About the home

Do you want to completely get away from City life? Alexis Apartments is ideal relaxation for families and couples. Simply 60 second walk from the beach. Quiet with the natural beauty of a mountain and a secluded bay with clear blue waters you can swim across to the mountain every day.

The bay is naturally created to have very shallow waters to one side of the crescent which is greatly enjoyed by people of all ages including toddlers, children and non-swimmers alike. Enjoy the fact you can walk in your towel with your beach bags from apartment to sea in a matter of seconds and back again for a cheap lunch. Unwind in the evenings at one of the taverna's or simply cook for yourself and sit on the private terrace in the warm evening sun watching the stars appear above the mountain. Enjoy the original panorama once filmed for 60's feature film, Zorba The Greek.

The property is a one bedroom apartment, sleeps 3/4 (2 in 1 bedroom and 2 possible with sofa bed). Features Lounge, Dining Room and Kitchette. Balcony or terrace area with sea and mountain views for meals, drinks and sun lounging.

Alexis Apartments are in the picturesque seaside village of Stavros. Here you can do as much or as little as you want. When it comes to white sandy beaches, you are spoilt for choice. Here are our favourites in the area.

Stavros beach

With the exquisite Stavros beach right outside the apartments, you could easily spend your whole holiday splashing in the clear blue sea, snorkelling and sunbathing. This picturesque spot was the backdrop of the final dance scene in Zorba the Greek, and with its breathtaking beauty, it’s easy to understand why. Nature lovers should watch out for the eagles soaring over the coastal mountain.


Marathi beach

Another beautiful sandy beach, this time set against the backdrop of the white mountains and Souda bay. Marathi beach is about a 15-minute drive from Stavros on the south coast of the Akrotiri peninsula. The fish restaurant next to the beach is recommended. Just round the corner from Marathi is Loutraki beach, which is one of the few beaches in the area to offer sea sports.

Tersanas beach

Tersanas is just a few kilometres away from Stavros and offers another excellent sandy beach with a lovely bar overlooking the sea. Good for nights out as well as day trips.

Alexis Apartments are in Stavos, a charming seaside village in the Akrotiri peninsula in Western Crete. The apartments are about 12km from Chania International Airport, which has direct flights from the UK from May to October.

Getting to us

There is 24-hour car hire at Chania airport or you can get a bus or taxi here. We are only a 20-minute drive away.

We recommend hiring a car so you can explore the area and rest of Crete in your own time. However, if you’d prefer to stay car-free, there are daily buses around the peninsula and to Chania, which is only 17km away. From Chania, you can get a bus or book a tour to anywhere in Crete. The buses between Stavros and Chania don’t run in the evening but taxis are available instead.

“Lovely quiet apartment in peaceful resort.” We had a very enjoyable week at the Alexis Apartments. Our apartment was very clean and tidy with nicely coordinating furnishings. The triple windows with integrated blinds and insect screens were very useful as was the air conditioning with the unusual October heat. The welcoming cake and drink etc awaiting us was a very nice touch. A microwave or toaster would have been useful for breakfast and small meals, although we ate out for our main meals. The lovely beach is very close by and the enclosed bay ideal for swimming. October is very much the end of season, with cafes starting to close up and not many people around, but it was lovely and peaceful. It made a good base for exploring the west of the island, although you always have to drive back over the peninsula first. Thank you Susie and Alexis for your hospitality.

“Perfect and quiet” We loved Stavros and Susie did everything she could to make our stay the best it could be. We had no car and enjoyed chilling in the village, at Mamas place and at the wIndmill taverna. Loved snorkelling in the cove. A really quiet retreat. Just what we were looking for.

“I could not fault this accommodation.” From the start to the end we were made to feel welcome. Suzie is a wonderfully warm caring lady who treats her guests as friends. Her welcome pack (including wine and cake) was a lovely surprise.The apartment was spacious, well equiped and spotlessly clean. Clean linen was provided every few days. Stavros beach is only a couple of minutes away and the water was warm and clean. It would be advantageous to have a car if you want to see the sights of Crete. Stavros has very little in the way of restaurants, the windmill being the best we found - though it has a very limited menu. The two supermarkets provide just about everything you need. For a totally relaxing away from it all holiday this would be hard to beat.

“Stunning Location, Great atmosphere, Lovely Holiday” Heard about this place from a friend of a friend who raved about it and it lived up to its hype. A lovely little town/ village set in a picturesque part of Crete, with hills, great beach and blue sea. The beach was about 2 mins walk from the apartment which made life easy and there is an inlet/ natural harbour which provided a lovely place to go swimming. The apartments are lovely, clean, cool and had a lovely roof top terrace we ate on, with as great view of the local village. The vilage had a couple of really good tavernas where the food was really good, the drinks flowed and the locals were very friendly..all situated within a couple of hundred meteres of each other. Made a couple of trips further afield to Chania which was very nice, especially around the harbour but to be honest we were so relaxed in the bay and walking up into the hills or swimming we didnt really need to leave.

“Location Location Location - Lovely Apartment, Super Beach, Crystal Clear Water” This is the first time I have ever written a review, about anything, why now, because this was a special moment. My wife and I spent a wonderfully relaxing holiday at Alexis apartments in Stavros. The apartment is situated in a lovely spot close to the beach, tavernas and small supermarkets. Our air conditioned apartment was spacious and clean and provided everything we needed. Only yards from the beach we appreciated the convenience of being able to return to the apartment during the day, for whatever reason...... There are two beaches to choose from, both very different; there is a lovely natural bay with sandy beach and crystal clear shallow water as well as places to buy delicious food and drinks; the other beach is more rugged, the sandy beach gives way to stones and rocks at the waters edge. Getting to Chania for a days sightseeing or for the evening was easy, we took the bus (20 to 30 minute), you can buy tickets and get bus times from the eats place on the square in front of the beach. Returning we usually took a taxi, they are reasonably priced providing you check the meter is on. Whether young or old, if what you seek is a lovely spot for a relaxing holiday then I can highly recommend Alexis apartments.

“Perfection is quite a claim, but as far as we're concerned, this is it.” Stavros isn't for everybody, and if it's vibrant night life and discotheques you want, forget it. However, if you want peace, world-class beaches, unbelievably beautiful scenery, and congenial company, then it will suit you down to the ground. Alexis apartments are perfectly situated to take full advantage of all that Stavros has to offer in terms of beaches and scenery, and there are two supermarkets a ten minute walk away which sell everything necessary for all self-catering needs. We've been coming to Alexis apartments for several years now and wouldn't stay anywhere else; we don't like to take risks with our precious holidays and apart from their perfect location, the apartments provide everything we need in terms of comfort and convenience. An added bonus is that the owners of this family-run business are extremely welcoming and friendly, and always on hand to help or advise. We will certainly continue to stay at Alexis apartments as often as we possibly can and would recommend it to anyone, singles couples or families.

“Peace & relaxation in paradise.” Both myself & my partner lead busy stressful lives in the UK. This holiday in Stavros at the Alexis Apartments was exactly what the doctor ordered! The apartment itself was very clean and roomy and everything we needed & expected was catered for. Being a bit of a clean freak myself, me saying it's clean, means IT'S CLEAN. I've had to use my asthma inhaler on some holidays due to the dust in the bedrooms or on bedding. NOT the case here. I didn't have to use it once so I KNOW it's very clean. The airport in Chania is only a 20 min taxi drive away. The beach is a 2 minute stroll from the apartments, the water is crystal clear & we noticed many locals who come from nearby choosing to come to this beach to swim. There's a lovely restaurant & snack bar right on the beach catering for all your refreshment needs, 2 shops a short walk from the beach, and a few more local restaurants. Using Stavros as your base you can get the bus into Chania which has the prettiest harbour in Crete, travel the island, or do as we did and just relax and unwind & enjoy the odd walk in the stunning countryside with the incredible mountains as a back drop. That's the beauty of staying here, you have the opportunity to make your holiday exactly what you want. Everything is here. We are looking forward to rebooking for the end of the season this year. This is what holidays are all about. Highly recommended : )
