Vallorcine itself is a relatively quiet village and so if you are looking for throbbing nightlife, cinema, bowling and Michelin starred restaurants, then you are looking at getting the train into Chamonix and a €40 taxi home.
That said there are a number of great places to eat in the Vallorcine valley ranging from Ferme des Trois Ours to the Hotel Le Buet, the Gite Bellevue and the Arret Bougnete by the lifts. There is also a super village shop 200 metres from the house from which you can buy your freshly baked croissants every day.

The Maison Le Torrent is more of a stone village house than a classic wooden chalet. It has a playroom (with lots of toys and games, a baby-foot table and English TV), downstairs loo and ski-room on the ground floor, an open-plan kitchen, dining room and sitting room with a very cosy wood burning stove on the first floor, two double/twin bedrooms, a bathroom and shower room on the second floor, and a further two double bedrooms, a bathroom and a children's room (which currently contains one single bed and one child's bed) on the top floor. So to say that it can accommodate 9-10 comfortably is about right. We also have wifi for those who can't tear themselves away from work.

We have two parking spaces across the road from the house and an informal garden which is great for building snowmen in during the winter and having barbecues and a paddling pool in during the summer

The house is (we think) very well located, being:
less than 5 minutes walk from the lifts at Vallorcine (which links in to the Le Tour ski area);
15 minutes drive or train ride to Argentiere (the famous, challenging Chamonix ski area);
20 minutes train/drive from the Flegere/Brevent ski area
45 minutes drive to Verbier in Switzerland
45 minutes drive to Courmayeur in Italy

In terms of getting there, the closest airports are Geneva and Milan. We usually fly easyjet, BA or Swiss from London to Geneva. Once at Geneva, either rent a car or get a transfer with one of the many shuttle services (Alpybus, Chamvan, Mountain Drop-offs are our favourites), which in peak season will cost you around 25 euros per person one way. The journey takes about 1.5 hours, which makes it a fantastic destination for weekends.
