Stone House surrounded by green a few kilometers from Florence.
Thanks to an altitude of approximately 600 m. above sea level you can enjoy a climate never too hot, you can relax in the shade of an old chestnut maybe reading immersed in the silence of the countryside and enjoy the view of the mountains of the Apennines Tuscan. It is ideal also for those who prefer to visit the nearby towns of art museums and ancient churches. For those who choose the holiday as an opportunity to do sports can go horseback riding, playing golf, walking trails, fishing, windsurfing and sailing or take in the nearby Lake of Bilancino.

Borgo San Lorenzo has public tennis courts, and a convenient train and bus service to Florence. Bicycles can be rented in Borgo, as well as horses for country trekking 20 minutes away in Barberino. Besides being a thriving agricultural community, the Mugello area is rich in cultural heritage. Giotto's and Fra Angelico's birthplace, Vicchio, is about 5 kilometres away with a delightful little museum.

Just an hour's drive you can reach the zone of Chianti, Siena, San Gimignano or Pisa and Lucca

From Barberino di Mugello - A1: Follow the signs for S. Piero a Sieve, past the lake Bilancino follow signs to Florence, at the roundabout go straight onto the gallery (for Borgo San Lorenzo)at the end of the road turn right, continue for Via Faentina and after 5 miles, reach the country and go up the road Polcanto for about 4 km.

“Superb unspoilt Tuscany away from the crowds” Once we found it (see below), this really was the most fantastic place to stay. It is so quiet and peaceful - no tourist honeypots around here, and yet we could drive to the outskirts of Florence in around 20 minutes (getting to the centre was another matter). Be aware though, that there is no air conditioning, and a car is essential. The accomodation was beautifully decorated, and the garden was delightful. The surrounding area is full of little tracks and footpaths to explore (not all on the map), with chestnut woods and hay fields to walk through rather than olive groves and vineyards. The nearby towns are not at all touristy, although they are worth a visit. The village of Polcanto has a little store, and a bar only. The tricky bit was finding it, so here are some notes we took. Follow the instructions to Polcanto. Go up into the village, and opposite the shop/bar go steeply uphill out of the village. This road winds and climbs up, and after four kilometres (it feels like more), you begin to come out of the woods. At around this point, you will see a tall, square concrete building, which we thought was an electricity sub station. A few hundred yards after this, there is an unmarked gravel drive off to the right. It drops down left below the first house after about 100metres to I Castagni dei Medici Caterina. There is a sign on the gatepost. It would be wise to check that you have Cristinas' mobile number, and dont' rely on google maps or asking the locals - they certainly didn't work for us! Anyway, have a great time, but don't tell too many of your friends, we want to keep it quiet!
