The 2 bedroom cottage and 1 bedroom barn (only let together) have been lovingly restored with a great deal of care and personal attention by the owners who are keen to share their house with other families when they are not in residence.

The properties retain most of their original features, with original chestnut beamed ceilings throughout, and wooden and terracotta flooring. There is a large fireplace in the living room there, as well as an open fire in the barn. For summer living there is also a fully equipped 'outdoor' kitchen meaning there is no need to enter the house from dawn til dusk!

The extensive patio area boasts the most fantastic views of the mountains, and is high above Barga which is a beautiful city lit up at night, creating a very romantic place to Eat 'al fresco' and for enjoying those last glasses of wine of the day! The property is located high in the mountains, thus ensuring it is never 'too' hot, and it really feels it is possible to touch the stars at night!

The private 'infinity style' swimming pool is above the houses so as not to totally spoil the traditional feel of the property, and to ensure it remains totally out of sight.

The view from the pool is wonderful and the style of pool means it feels one is swimming in the mountains .... There is also a stepped area for paddling / sitting in the water.

The owners are very keen to share their love of the area, and will be happy to provide for all your needs when they come up to check all is fine.

This is a true retreat staying in your own private part of Italy, and it will be difficult to tear yourselves away !I

If you do venture outside, then Barga with its numerous shops, restaurants, open air concerts, mediaeval town, river and Duomos are only a 10 minute drive - what a perfect location!

Not suitable for elderly due to steep Climb to the pool. The owners also keep bees, and will no doubt give you some honey. The hives are away from the house and pool.

The Tuscany region

The Tuscan Region of Italy is well known for its warm balmy summers, beautiful countryside, rolling hills, mouth - watering food, and of course its towns and villages, rich with mediaeval architecture…

The Garfagnana region of Tuscany, often known as its 'Green Lung' is situated away from the milling crowds that can often be found at the most famous Tuscan locations and is totally unspoilt, remaining untouched by tourism.

The scenery is spectacular, green and mountainous with views of both the Apuane and Appenine mountains at every turn…And, due to the altitude whilst the weather can be very hot, it is always pleasantly cool for sleeping…

The food is usually home made, using home grown produce, and is typically simple and extremely tasty. Prices here remain very reasonable due to the fact that food is prepared with the locals, and not tourists in mind…The local wine is cheap and surprisingly drinkable!

The pace of life is slow and peaceful – spend your days enjoying secluded picnics, swimming in rivers, or watching locals play bocce or 'cheese throwing'. Visit hundreds of ancient hill top villages, or relax at home basking in stunning scenery.

For 'townie' days, visit the mediaeval towns of Barga, Lucca, Castelnuovo, with Pisa and Florence within easy reach too…

This is Olde Worlde Italy

Pegnana is set just 10 minutes from Barga, which itself is 45 minutes North of Lucca, 1 hr from Pisa; 1.5 hrs Florence; 2.25 hrs Siena; 1 hour coast. Airports - Pisa (1hr 10 mins); Florence (90mins);Genoa (2.5 hrs); Bologna (2.5hrs). Barga, the closest town is a beautiful medieval hill-top town, situated approximately 45 minutes North of Lucca. The town boasts cobbled hilly streets, fantastic views, an abundance of churches; 3 bridges, and a duomo. There is also a large outdoor community swimming pool surrounded by the Alpuan Alps.

Barga is well known in the area for its good restaurants, and also for its open air concerts held overlooking the town. Jazz; opera, and the classics, are performed, quite often free of charge. The town is well located to serve as a base for exploring either by car, or by train, the more well known sites of Lucca(45 mins), Florence (1.5hrs), Siena(2.25 hrs), and the seaside town of Viareggio (1 hr). The famous caves of Grotto di Vento are circa 20 mins away. The completely unspoilt area of Garfagnana, further North is also easy to explore, with its Natural Parks, mountains, hill top villages, and panoramic views at every turn!
